HT4527 Moving a Playlist from an old computer to a MacBook?

I just bought a Macbook and I moved all my itunes over from my old computer with a portable hardrive. My playlist's didnt move over though. How do I move over my playlist's so when I sync my phone I wont loose them???

See this migrate iTunes library post. If you copy the entire iTunes library folder from the old computer into <User's Music> on the new one (delete any empty library there first) then it should "just work".

Put the files back where iTunes expects them to be.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?

Just copy the entire Music folder from the old Mac to the new Mac, then click on the folder and Get Info and change the permisisons and click the spoke to "apply to enclosed items"
Ideally it's best to use the same user name on the new machine, this way all your iTunes playlists work and there is no need to change permissions.
You can create the same named user by creating another account in System Preferences >accounts
If the old computer is a PC then just copy the old Music folder to the Mac onto the desktop, then use iTunes to import the music files.
If the old comptuer is dead, then you can extract the hard drive(if it's still working) and use a IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable to access the internal drive.
Mac's should be able to read NTFS format of PC's, just not write to it. But if it's not working there is software to install to allow the Mac to read that NTFS drive format, just search online.

  • HT3396 How do I transfer Keynote from my old computer to my Macbook Air?

How do I transfer Keynote from my old computer to my Macbook Air?

Keynote has been supplied either as a DVD disc or as a purchased download file from the Apple Store or App Store
Use whichever of these Keynote installation methods you have available.
If you have a DVD disc, borrow an external portable USB connection DVD drive, neighbours, friends or local computer shops will all help.
I already have a copy of keynote on my old computer?
If you have a copy of the Keynote installer file ( a file that will install properly the application on your Mac) then copy that onto a USB memory stick and run the installer.
If it is a Keynote application thats on your old machine, you must not transfer that over as it wont install Keynote properly.

  • HT1451 Moving iTunes library from an old computer to a new computer?

I am having difficulty moving my iTunes library from my old computer to a new computer (both PC).  The old operating system is XP while the new operating system is Windows 7.

It does not matter with your operating system, just make sure you move to the right location.
    Location of iTunes folder
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    Windows 7
    C: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes

  • How do I import playlists from my old computer to my new computer.  I followed the instructions to export the playlists, but when I tried to import on the new computer the files were nowhere to be found?

I saved my playlists on my new computer as per the instructions in iTunes help.  Then I tried to import the playlists on my new computer but the files were nowhere to be found.  Found the correct directory, but not there.  my computers are connected on a network, so I don't know what I am doing wrong?  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • HT1386 I copied my my iTunes music from an old computer to a Macbook Pro, but it did not copy the playlists on my nano. How can I transfer the playlists and their content from the nano to the Macbook

I copied my iTunes music from an old computer to a new Macbook pro but it did not copy the playlists that are on my Nano. How can I copy the playlists and their content on the nano to the Macbook? If I automatically sync the nano from the Macbook, will it scrub the content and existing playlists on the nano?

You need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • How do I transfer my Playlist from my old computer to my new one?

I have a new computer. But all my playlist are on my old computer. Although I have authorized this new computer, and the music is there, the playlist are not.

These are two possible approaches that should work.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.

  • How can I transfer photoshop from an old computer onto a macbook air (which has no disc drive)?

Recently have got a macbook air and need to transfer my photoshop from my other computer onto it, went to The Apple Store but they didn't know how to.
If anyone could help, would be amazing! as need it done asap! thanks

On your MacBook Air, download the CS6 installer from Download CS6 products
Install then enter your serial number when prompted.
Without a valid serial number, the software will run as a Trial version for 30 days after which it will stop working.

  • TS5224 how do i move my ichat from my old computer to my new one?

How do I move my ichat from my old computer to my macbook pro?

    Hi,
I have come back to review this as the title included reference to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5224
From AIM you may also see this:-
The basic premise seems to be that AIM are no longer going to support (accept) the three types of Apple Issued IDs and leave @icloud.com ones as the only ones.
The Messages appearing in Mavericks seems ot override the implication in the article that moving to a later version of Lion (later iChat 6) and higher will be one resolution.
The article finishes with suggesting Maverick OR changing to an AIM Name - apparently missing that you need either an AIM name for older iChats if you ar not going to Upgrade OR needing an AIM or @icloud.com ID if using you are upgrading.
    Solution.
Create a new Buddy list. (whilst keeping the old one active). It does not matter if you are upgraded or Not at this point.
Make the Screen Name an AIM registered one if you are going to be still using iChat 5 or lower or an early version of iChat 6 in Lion.
Now highlight every single Buddy in your old Buddy list (Display Off LIne Buddies as well).
Click the the top one and hold Shift whilst clicking the bottom one.
Click and Drag to new Buddy List.
I have moved 264 this way before.

  • I got a new windows computer and I can't transfer all of my music to it from my old computer. I have some music on my phone but not all of it so when I plug it in only some of my music shows up and none of my playlists.

I got a new Lenovo Windows computer and I'm trying to transfer my iTunes library to my new computer. I can't figure out how. I tried plugging in my iPhone and it synched what music was on my phone but I don't have my entire library on my phone and none of my playlists transferred. I tried authorizing my computer and it is but it still isn't showing up. I turned on my homesharing on my new and old computer but apparently I have two other computers I have authorized and I don't know which ones they are, probably ones that have been thrown out. What do I do now?

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Authorizing a computer does not cause media to magically appear.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • I'm retiring my old computer (windows xp) to a new computer (windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer

i'm retiring my old computer (with windows xp) and bought a new computer (with windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer. I also have my ipods, iphone sync'd in the old computer so i want to make sure that things won't get messed up (my apps, playlists, etc) when i move over everything to the new computer and sync all my devices with the new computer.
Thanks in advance for the tips.

Make sure the XP box is upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Also make sure it's using the itunes media folder layout as explained here, because that's what the W7 is going to be using.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3847
Install itunes on the new W7 PC.
Get these folders from the XP machine
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And put them here on the W7 machine
    C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
