HT4527 No content available in home share?

I have an extensive iTunes library of mostly music. I have followed all the steps of the "Home Sharing" procedure to transfer my iTunes from my Mac Desktop to my new Macbook Pro. Does anyone know how to actually transfer the music? I can't transfer "drag and drop" the music INTO the home sharing folder, nor is there any files in the Home sharing. What should I do next?

I get this too...sporadically. I just always figured it just missed something when it was pulling the email off the server.
Usually, I just go all the way out, and back in again and I seem to be able to find the email.
Other times, I delete the email, then go recheck for it, and I find it again and the content is there, but I have yet to find a consistant method that is fixinig it or stopping it.
Now that I think about it though, on Friday, I started filtering my email through AOL so I would not get the stupid copy pf my emaiils sent to me that I send, and I have not been seeing the "No Content" message since!

  • HT4527 if i were to home share the contents of my current library to my new computer could i then sync my iphone to the new one?

I need to transfer my music, movies, apps etc. to my new laptop because my old one is almost unusable however i dont know if syncing it will work if i do what was suggested.

Homesharing is sharing a computers iTunes library to other devices on the network.
    It is streaming, not downloading.
You can't share items on an iOS device.

    Thanks in advance.

Make sure you are using HOME sharing, not "share my library."
I had this, also. To solve the problem, I had to go to iTunes Preferences->Sharing->Share my library on my local network (on all computers), and switch that off. Then I turned Home Sharing back on everywhere and it started working.
(Make sure you give the same iTunes account on all computers when turning on Home Sharing.)

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
The music sync is one - way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.

  • HT3819 is it posable to Home Share iTunes U content from my Mac osX with IOS 6 device.

I have a Mac running (OS X) and an iPad 3 and iPhone 4  both running (IOS 6) and the latest version of iTunes U App.  Before my upgrade to ios 6, I was able to Home Share my iTunes U library to both of my IOS devices, now I can not.
I am aware the iTunes U content was moved from the video app to the iTunes U App with the IOS 6 upgrade.  I have tried every thing that I could find via Apple support and Google search to answer my issue. Everything I have seen is veg concerning iTunes U and home sharing.
I am able to Home Share all of my videos via the Videos App, Music in the Music App but no iTunes U and No Podcast that I have in my iTunes library will Home Share to my IOS devices.
Also I do have an Apple TV and I have no problem sharing all the content with it.
    Do you have any suggestions

Agreed. What's the deal, Apple? Why no ability to access iTunes U on iOS 6 via Home Sharing? Please fix this!

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!

If my partner & I both have an iTunes account, can we home share both or somehow combine the two accounts?

As of right now there is no way to combine Apple accounts.
As for "sharing", you can go into the iTunes settings for each and turn on Home Sharing, this will make your music libraries available to each other, provided you are both using different computers.

    /Users/sarahschadek/Desktop/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
Move the Safari app from the Desktop to the Applications folder.
    Restart your Mac.
    That's why you see this:
When I try to do the updates my computer says it has ready it goes through like it is downloading them then at the end it says some of the files could not be saved to "/" files.
After your restart your Mac, click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...

  • Using Home Share to move a library

I am in the midst of transferring music, tv shows, and movies from an old laptop to a newer desktop. I am using the Home Sharing feature of iTUnes to do this.
There is about 20GB worth of content transfering.
Is Home Sharing a good way to do this transfer?
Once I complete the tranfer (it's taking a while), can I delete the files from the old laptop? I'm trying to free up some space on the old computer and the videos are large.
    Thanks,
    jr

If you can get Home Share to work at all and to continue to work over time (which are not things you should take for granted, per the many posts here and on other boards), you should be able to do what you wish. Be prepared to have the signal drop every so often if it is a large library and you're running wirelessly, but Home Sharing does let you know what it was doing when it dropped, so you should be able to start from there when you reconnect. Then, you could easily delete the files from the first computer or drive. (That said, I found it easier to restore to my new computer from a backup on an external background. It was a bit tricky to get the playlists added afterwards, but you'd have the same problem, I believe, if you used Home Sharing as it just transfers the music files and not the playlist information, or so it appears to me.)

  • Does logging out affect home share?

Just bought a mac mini to serve as a home share "server" for my AppleTVs and iTune content. While I'm waiting for it to arrive, I plan on creating a user account on the mini to publish the iTunes library.
My question is, do I need to keep that account logged in on the mini in order for the home share to be active or can I log out of the account, leave the machine running, and still have access to the share because the mini is acting more like a server hosting the content in "background mode?"
Second question -- if the account needs to remain active, does iTunes have to be open in the session? Not necessarily the primary application as far as desktop is concerned but just open?
    Thanks

the account needs to be logged in with itunes running in order for the home shared library to be accessable.

  • TS2972 "select share" of home share on itunes - is home share an all or nothing share? Is there a way to use parent controls to share some portions with children's iphones?

Is home share an all or nothing selection, or is there a way to "select share" with children's 5c iphones. Parent control feature to home share?
    Thanks in advance!

I can't promise this works as I haven't tested this however on every iOS Device in the Settings app under General & Restrictions you have the ability to restrict a ton of options.
Here's my two cents which you could try:
On the iOS Device go to settings -> General -> Restrictions
Go to the Music section, the TV Shows section, & Movies Section and select the appropriate rating you want your kids to have access to.
After setting this up try accessing the home sharing and see if the content you want blocked still shows up on their devices.
If the content still shows up then:
On iTunes on your PC or Mac find the content you wish to block (Home Movies, Movies, TV Shows, Music, etc)
Right click on the items you want blocked and change the rating (for example to R or NC-17).
I haven't tried this myself however on paper at least I think it should work.  If it does please report back and let everyone know and congrats on the new phones
