iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Playlist didn't transfer after Home Sharin!!

Hi there! Just bought a new compute and set up the home sharing between the two computers. I see all of the songs but the playlists didn't transfer. I tried going to file, library, import playlist like another post said but it wants me to find the file on my computer. I have no idea how to get the file from one computer to the other so is there an easy way of moving the playlists without copying files from the other one?
Too if anyone know the quickest way to get this all done from scratch on the ipad mini, you get rockstar points!!

First on the original computer, find your "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. See the following document for instructions on where to find it (note that it's the .xml file you're looking for):
iTunes: What are the iTunes library files?
Transfer a copy of that file across to the new computer. (Via email or thumb drive, etc.)
Launch iTunes on the new PC and import the iTunes Music Library.xml file from the old PC. To do that on iTunes for Windows, you go "File > Library > Import Playlist" as per the following screenshot:
Browse to the location of the iTunes Music Library.xml file from the other computer, select it and then open it.

  • Ipod isn't showing up as a playlist for easy transfer of manually selected songs?

Hey Apple Support Community.  Previously iTunes allowed me to add songs individually to fill up my ipod bu right clicking and adding the song to the ipod by way of the "add song to playlist" option in the drop down box.  Sunddenly my ipod isn't showing up as a playlist for easy transfer of manually selected songs?  I've had to create a temporary playlist and use the "autofill" on the ipod screen to add the songs I want.  It's kind-of tedious.  What happened?  Has iTunes changed the way you're allowed to fill up your ipod?  Or is there some glitch in my ipod that iTunes can't see it so as to provide it as an option for being a playlist?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
    mike

    a few typos:
"bu" should be "by"....fill up my ipod by right clicking...
"Sunddenly" of course should be "Suddenly"

  • My song info and playlist didn't transfer over with my music.  Can I still get them?

My song info and playlists did not transfer over to my new computer with my music.  Can I still get that stuff and load it into iTunes on the new computer?

    Hi Huken,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  Is your new computer a Mac or a PC?  I would suggest you first back up your iTunes library to an external drive, and then copy that file to your new computer.  Click on the link below for complete instructions.

  • HT4527 Playlist transfer problem

I followed these instructions exactly for the external hard drive method, but it looks like neither my playlists nor any metadata are transferring. This is a Macbook Air 2008 to a current Air (not sure why it's having select "iTunes for Windows" community); my hard drive failed for the old Air, so there's no way I can go back and reconfigure iTunes from there. All I have retrieved is the full and exact iTunes folder. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • HT4527 how do I transfer music from my itunes account on my PC to my ipad device?

Urgent! Leaving in the morning to visit my daughter out of state. I am trying to synch and transfer selected music from my PC on my itunes account on to her new iPad. My music in my itunes account is not in icloud. I have selected a playlist to transfer but can't find out how to transfer. I googled it and the search answer said to click the device's name in the itunes source window and then click on "summary" but I can't locate the source window or summary? Please help.

Connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you don't have the sidebar showing then control-S should get it to appear), then on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen select the Music tab :
And use that to select and sync the music that you want on your iPad's Music app - there should be a Sync or Apply button at the bottom right of that screen.
Syncing media : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351 (this page describes how to sync when you don't have the sidebar showing, but the principles should be similar)

  • HT4527 how do i transfer music from my iphone to itunes

How do I transfer my music from my iPohone to iTunes

Unless purchased from iTunes, all the music on your iPhone should have come from an iTunes sync. You can only sync with one itunes library. If you syncing with a new iTunes library you will lose all your non-iTune purchases.
If you still have it, you can transfer your old iTunes library to the new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
All your iTunes urchase can be downloaded into your iTunes library
Open iTunes STore > Purchased (in Quick Links on the right)
    or directly from your phone:

  • Some items in playlist didn't transfer

  • HT4527 Playlists not showing up

I transferred my music/books/etc from my pc to my new MacBook but my playlists are not showing up. Is this normal or is there a way to transfer those, too? I also have my entire library on my iPad.

I have this issue too.  Most of my playlists (including Smart and manually-created) aren't showing up on my iPod Touch 4th Gen.  I'm runing iTunes 10.6.3.  I have "Entire Music Library" checked under the Music Tab for my device in iTunes.
The issue is also happening with my new Apple TV as well. But it sees different playlists (still not all) than my iPod sees.

  • HT4527 How do I transfer songs from ipod to computer / itunes account?

I have a bunch of music on an old external HDD so I can get away from all those CDs, but recently I have changed computers and now a bunch of my songs show up as 'unable to locate'.  I want to manually manage my ipod and get the songs I have on it now in my new computer / itunes account.
    HELP!

I have exactly the same problem and have no idea how to do it. I am too scared to try random things in case I lose all 800 of my songs on my iPod!!!
I don't really know how these posts work so I'm assuming that someone will (hopefully) post the answer on here so that I can find out how to transfer my iPod songs to the library.
    Please help,
    Kate
