  • Old Computer crash. How can I transfer my music  from Ipod to new Computer?

Lightning struck my old computer, how can I transfer my music from the Ipod to the new computer (Windows XP) Itunes library?

You don't need to buy anything from the spammers that infect these forums. There are plenty of free options.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • HT1349 If I have changed my computer how can I recover my music library into the new one?

How can I do this? any help will be much appreciated
    Thanks

If you have made backups of your desktop before it crashed it's a simple matter to restore the backup to your repaired computer. I hope you did this, because it's likely you lost much more than your purchases.
Restoring purchases is easy; you just download them again.

  • TS2529 Hi.  The mother board on my computer went and I had to get a new computer.  My itunes files were recovered from my old computer, but I am not sure how to go about syncing my ipod to the new itunes that I just downloaded.

I am trying to sync my ipod and the new itunes library I just loaded.  My old computer basicall crashed and I had to get a new one.  They were able to recover all the data from my old computer, but there is no music listed in the new itunes library.  How do I get this to work as it did on the old computer?

    Hello cheech07,
The following article contains directions that can help get you back on track with iTunes. I'd recommend picking up at 'Part 5' of the 'External drive' section.

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

If you no longer have the old computer this will be very helpful and If you have other content - apps, books, movies, that you want to transfer to the iTunes library - you need to transfer your purchases from the iPod to the computer as well.
    Take a look.

This works the same way whether you have a Mac or a PC.

    Do you mean iTunes library?
iTunes account is what you use to make iTunes purcahses.
iTunes library is what is on your computer.
It says my phone can only be set up woth one itunes account. How do I remove the previous account?
No, it tells you it can only be sync'd with one iTunes library.
Simplest way is to copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder (thisis the iTunes library) from old computer to new computer.

  • I have a new computer.  How do I import my music library to my new computer from my iPhone?

I have a new computer.  How do I import my music library to my new computer from my iPhone?

You do not.. the iPhone is not a backup device.
Copy the entire iTunes directory from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • How do you import your music library to a new computer?

I have an iPod Nano (2nd gen).  I have a mixture of purchased songs from iTunes, but also many personal tunes from my CD's.  I have just bought a new computer.  I was shocked to learn there is no easy way to move my existing library and playlists.  How do I import my entire music library to the new computer.  I have a large capacity flash drive.

If you network your two computers together, you can transfer the song files directly, without having to use a flash drive in between. You may also want to consider getting a backup drive. You can get lots of space for not so much money these days, and with an automatic backup system, it can really save your bacon if your computer goes down, which is an additional benefit to just transferring files from one computer to another.

  • HT1386 I have a new computer and when I tried to sync my iPod Touch with the new iTunes, it has lost all of my music and videos from my iPod/old iTunes library: including all but 4 songs of my bought songs, videos and audeobooks!

I have recently updated my computer since my old one broke and therefore had to download a new iTunes. When I came to add my iPod to this new iTunes, I was given no option to transfer the contents of my iPod library to this new iTunes and was forced to try 'sync'; when my old computer was repaired once we lost all of our data so I had to download a new iTunes then, all of my iPod downloads were transferred and I could easily reburn my CDs so I didn't think the wiping of my iPod would be a problem. When I clicked 'sync' it warned me that it would replace the contents of my iPod with the new iTunes library, as I said I didn't think this would be a problembut then it asked if it should transfer my recent iTunes downloads so I said 'yes'. The sync was completed but now I only have 4 downloaded songs and 5 albums which I burned to my new iTunes! I have lost all the music I bought, all the videos I bought and all the audiobooks I bought! (Luckily I still have my apps.) I tried to restore backup but realised that only covers calendars, contacts E.T.C and I checked my iTunes account and that shows all my downloads but I can't see a way to restore them or anything like that!
Please help! I am in despair as you can imagine how much moneys worth I have lost and am losing faith in Apple

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

I have an old dell desktop and an older ipod with my itunes library....the dell desktop is not functioning as well and have not been able to sync a newer ipod to the library .....i now have a newer Macbook air....i would like to put my library on my Air i tunes....when i attached the ipod to the air to try to sync the ipod library onto the air itunes i received a message that said i was synced with another library and that if i wanted to sync with this library i would need to "erase and sync" ....got spooked as i dont want to lose the library/ or the music....question ----will this procedure put my existing library (which is all on my older ipod) onto my Macbook air itunes?...any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you in advance...

No, it will sync the ipod to the content of the MBA which presumably has nothing on it (= erasing content of iPod and replacing it with nothing).

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • I cannot search my library on the new itunes. Is it possible to return to the old version

The new iTunes has appeared on my desktop where I have my main music library. I am finding it impossible to search for compilation albums. It will only offer a single track from the album. Basically a large proportion of my library is inaccessible. Is it possible to revert to the old iTunes?

iTunes 11 has a new search feature that is enabled by default. Whereas the old function narrowed down the list of tracks displayed in the main window the new feature generates a seperate results window from which you can select Albums, Artists or Songs to either play immediately via the new Up Next feature or add to any of your playlists. While it might be possible to get used to the new version for playback, the original behaviour is both familiar and more useful for library management tasks. Thankfully you can restore the old behaviour by clicking the search magnifying glass and unticking the label Search Entire Library.

You may also find it helps to restore the menu bar with ctrl-b and enable the side bar with ctrl-s. The same shortcuts will hide these features again. There is also a status bar that can be enabled with ctrl-/ but it seems a bug prevents it being turned off again under Window XP.

If you still want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the installer from here, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.
If you don't already do so I would also advise you backup the whole library on a regular basis.

  • HT1329 I just downloaded iTunes to a new computer.  It's been a while since I used iTunes on my old computer.  I don't see any of my playlists on the new computer.  What is the easiest way to transfer my playlists without having to recreate each one?

I just downloaded iTunes to a new computer.  It's been a while since I used iTunes on my old computer, so the new one has a totally different user interface.  I signed on to my account and saw my music but I have no playlists on the new computer.  What's the easiest way to replicate or restore my playlists as I had them in the old computer and in my iPod?

OK, thanks for the response.  I'm copying it onto a memory stick to transfer it to the new computer.  Still have two questions:
    1. Since there is already an iTunes folder on the new computer, created when iTunes was downloaded, where exactly do I copy the old folder onto the computer so that iTunes can find it?  In the old interface, there used to be a field where one could designate the path to find music and I don't see that in the new interface.
Assuming the above takes care of putting my playlists onto the new computer...
    2.  How do I add music that is currently stored in a back up file but was not on my old computer's drive?  I'm worried that I would have to add these one by one somehow, and there are a lot of songs.
    Thanks again.

  • I purchased some movies on my old computer a while and now I can't get it on my new iTunes. Any help?

Yes, so I purchased a couple of movies like maybe a year and a half ago on my old computer and now I want to get them on my new iPod.
Is there any way possible that I can do this without paying for them over again?

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself, nor should you disable them or Time Machine.
