HT4527 Why do apple make this so difficult?

I have been at this for days now and still missing...
Tracks, Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts and all my Apps!
Very annoyed.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Why does apple make it so difficult to understand what is going on with my one to one?

Does anyone have any answers for this? I don't even know where to list it here as a question.
Just spent over 2 hours, off and on, trying to get someone at apple to help figure out what's going on with my one to one. They give a number for help but there's no one there - only more gibberish about go here go there go all over the place on their site.... So called 'customer service' doesn't understand my question? Another place it says call the store, well that was another waste of time....
If I get a message saying my one to one is expired and then I pay for it via paypal, wait for the activation email. I sure don't want to pay for something I already have - that was my grocery money for 2 weeks.
When I click on that link it says:
    Activation error
This membership cannot be activated because this Apple ID is already associated with a One to One membership.

  • Why does apple make it so difficult to contact them?  I just want a follow up on a case I opened and can't seem to get to the right place.  You can't follow up with the email because it's a no reply. Very frustrating.

Anyone have a link? I have been going round in circles for at least an hour.  Not much fun with a home button that dosnt work.

you get help with anything you need if you go to a Apple store, i've been using apple for many years and they have never let me down, also you can contact them by phone, here is the link to the page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    Good luck

  • Every time I visit CNN I get a message saying that Firefox prevented the page from automatically reloading. I want to allow this. How can I do this? Why does Firefox make this so difficult? It's just a news site...

I want to allow CNN.com and other news and weather pages as well as blogs to automatically reload. I cannot figure out how to do so. Every other browser I've ever used has a way of allowing certain "trusted" sites to reload. All I get is an icon that says "Allow" but when I click on it the message instantly reappears and the only way to get rid of it is to "X" out of it which defeats the purpose completely.

    That shouldn't block refreshes.<br />
If that happens then check your extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)

  • Why did Apple make iTunes 7 look like a Windows XP App.?

Why did Apple make iTunes 7 look like a Windows XP App.? This version of iTunes doesn't even look like it belongs in OSX. It's ugly is about the only way I can put it. I can't figgure out why they removed the EQ icon and didn't even assign a key command for it. Now yoy have to go into the menu to select it. Also I have noticed that it sometimes downloads the wrong artwork for album covers. The old version of iTunes seemed much better and I have reverted back to it untill Apple fixes the problems with version 7 and makes it look like part of the OSX family of applications.

Well I wouldn't say it was ugly but some changes do leave something to be desired.
I certainly aggree about the equaliser button and the visualiser button has gone too but at least they assigned a key command for it. The scrollbars need more colour and I'd prefer the buttons at the bottom to stand out a bit more like the ones at the top.
I see no reason to go back to iT6 though, especially as I would misss Cover Flow. You could have a long wait for a change of interface and in the meantime you miss out on the good parts of iT7. If your track information is correct and identical to that on the Store then it shouldn't get the wrong artwork. Luckily I already had most of my album covers in place from other sources such as Amazon and just used iTunes to get a few more. My only complaint about the Get Album Artwork feature is that it's getting it from the US store when I want it from the UK store.
Anyway these forums are really here to enable users to help each other solve problems and not to discuss Apple's decisions. If there are things you want changing then do what I and others do and send constructive criticisms and requests via the link below, if you haven't already.

  • Why did Apple make the new iPod unable to use Griffin iTalk or iTrip?

I was so disappointed when I upgraded to the new 5th gen. iPod and was unable to use the accessories I purchased for my previous iPod. Am I missing something? What am I supposed to do? Is there an attachment that will make them usable? Why would Apple make a new iPod that wouldn't include the same connector?

See below your so-called answer to my question.
I also noticed you have marked it solved. If, as a moderator, you can say that your response was considerate of the people using the system then I guess it was solved. If I was to mark it I would say the reply was very condescending and thus worthy of a 1 out of 10 as far as a reply goes. In the future please do not answer my posts as I would like to be treated with a little respect as I'm sure you would like. Please get some other Mod who can perhaps relate to a person's concern. Your answer may be correct but your way of putting it across sounds like some of the 13 year old school children I use to teach.
    You have a good day.

Apple has not yet released any information on a smart cover for iPhone or iPod touch

  • Can an educational institution that is not accredited use these wonderful tools? I would hope Apple makes this approval process as individual for the educational institutions as they are for the individual student's learn needs and qualifications.ing

I would hope Apple makes this iTunes U approval process as individual for the educational institutions as they are for the individual student's learn needs and qualifications. Can an educational institution that is not accredited use these wonderful tools?

I see that Common Sense Meda offers courses.  I don't believe they are an accredited educational institution.  Approval may be on a case by case basis so Apple can control the experience.  I hope it's open.
I'm more concerned that Apple is excluding accredited educational institutions in many countries.

  • If apple app store has an app to sync windows phone with itunes called windows connector, and windows phone and apple are competitors, why doesnt apple make an app for android that syncs itunes without a third party software

I want to simply sync my android and my mac itunes without downloading any software. Windows phone has an app to do that even though apple and windows phone are competitors. Why does android not make an app or why doesnt apple create an software or something

Apple didn't create the Windows Phone app (Microsoft). Apple has nothing to do with this, and Google should do an app for this

  • Why Oh Why does Apple make it so hard to get an simple answer on something-

My main complaint is that Apple seems to go out of its way to put everything in categories for support help, and makes it very difficult to access a simple email access to support techs for questions that are not listed. Most recent example:
I purchased my first Mac in about 25 years this past September (now realize that I should have stayed with Apple after I bought the original Apple computer and later "upgraded" to an Apple IIC - HA!) - and yes, I should have bought the Apple care assistance but with all the travel I do it would have been very difficult to schedule time. Anyway...
All I want to know right now is that I bought my Mac Pro in early September only to find out that if I bought it in later October, I'd be eligible for an upgrade to Snow Leopard for only $7. But since I bought it in September, does that mean I have to pay the full $149 for upgrading to both Snow Leopard and iLife? Or since I'm such a recent customer that there would be other options?
Anyone have any ideas? Or at least could help me find a way to email someone at Apple to get an answer?
    Thanks!!

My main complaint is that Apple \[...] makes it very difficult to access a simple email access to support techs
Apple doesn't do support via e-mail. Personally, I think that's a reasonable choice, but discussing Apple policy here is strictly against the [terms of use of these forums|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms], and thus may be enough to get your post removed.
I bought my Mac Pro in early September only to find out that if I bought it in later October, I'd be eligible for an upgrade to Snow Leopard for only $7.
If you bought your machine in September of +this year+, then it should have had SL on it already. If you bought in September of +last year+, then you would have been eligible to upgrade for $100 (don't know where you heard $7). The dates of purchase for eligible machines were June 8 to December 26, in 2009. Dunno where you got October from. Sounds like whatever source you got that information from was not a good one.
Of course, this is probably all moot now. I doubt that the Up-to-Date program is still going, since the release of SL was more than a year ago.

  • Why cant Apple make a better keyboard/mouse

I went to Costco today and brought home the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 6000 and plugged it into my iMac. What a difference compared to the Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It is so much nicer to type on, and the functionality of the MS mouse beats the Apple one button by far. I know about the mighty mouse, but it still feels cheap compared to the MS mouse.
Why is Apple so cheap about its keyboards? They make the best computer for the money, but ship it with a sub-standard keyboard and mouse. So now if I want to type comfortably and use a good mouse, I have to put up with RF instead of bluetooth, and the fact that they MS desktop set doesn't really match the iMac aesthetically. I dont want to have to trade off. I think Apple should provide form and function for $1299.

Those old "Battleship Potempkin" keyboards were awesome back in the day.
I bought out a school that was redoing their labs and had literally dozens of those in my garage along with some of the newer, smaller Keyboad IIs. I sold them off of eBay after I tested them and gave them a good cleaning. They went surprisingly fast.
There is a company that makes a modern keyboard with the same premium keyswitches of the AEKII, the Matias Tactile Pro Keyboard. I have read rave reviews of it, and for the price, it had better be good.

  • Why does apple have this stupid thing where you cant change your apple id to another persons and then change it back? Its really annoying and why 90 days!!!!!!!!!!

    Please help

There is a very good reason why Apple does this.
Basically it is to prevent people from sharing purchased content with their friends. If you buy an app that costs lets say $19.99 and you let a friend sign into your ID on his device in order to download that purchase for free - that is what most people would call stealing. And your not just stealing from Apple - you are really stealing the bulk of the money from the app developer.
There is nothing that you can do now. You have to wait the 90 days. And it is highly unlikely that any feedback to Apple is going to matter. I don't see them changing this anytime soon.

  • Why will apple do this???

    Hi all,
When I'm reading this forum I see a lot of topics about problems with Itunes and Ipod Update.
Why will Apple realeas a new Itunes and Ipod Update if there are so many problems with it.
Is this because of finding solutions for these problems and come out with a new update?
Hope Apple will come very soon with a new update

    Hi,
Every time after Apple releases the latest version of iTunes or iPod updaters, you will see this kind of topic.
May be I am the lucky person and I have had no such probelm so far since iTunes 4 upgrade.
Bear in mind that this forum is for iPod users who experience problems and look for solutions.
I am sure there are millions of happy users with the upgrades.

  • Why does Verizon make this process so difficult.

I'm trying to upgrade to a new iPhone. Two things are bothering me. First, once you start the order Verizon purposely cuts off the cancellation button. As I am trying to determine which phone I'd like, I have to sign out and back in every freakin time I want to cancel the order. Thanks Verizon for trying to strong arm people. Nice work.
Secondly, my biggest complaint is that there is no information available about redeeming your old iPhone for credit for the new one. Even if you're saying I can recycle the phone, once you start the upgrade process that information goes out the door. There is no credit. All I want to know is if Verizon will recycle my old phone for store credit and for how much. Clearly, I'm going to have to get my money from Apple for the credit because Verizon is trying to rip people off.
For the first time in the entire time I've been a loyal Verizon Wireless Admin customer, I see how the company is trying to rip people off of their upgrades. By the way, if I were to go to a month-to-month contract why on earth would I pay $500 more from Verizon to get the a $200 Apple iPhone.

Congratulations on your new phonem Sherryist. We are so happy to have you be a part of our wireless family for so long. Wenever want to uspet you.
Please know we are always here to help. In the event you want to cancel an order, we can do that for you (speak to a representative). We don't want you to inadvertently cancel the order which is why it is requested you contact one of us to complete this step.
We can also address you concerns about the trade in when upgrading online.
On or before 9/30/14, retail customers should either trade in the old device at a VZW Retail store or submit the device trade-in online at trade-in.vzw.com
Customers trading online have to return devices to VZW by 12/1/2014,
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, it must be disabled prior to the trade in to get the full trade in amount.
I hope this information was helpful.
