HT4528 After my last sync my iTunes no longer plays any music not purchased in iTunes. Any suggestions?

I did the latest update and synched my iPhone 5C, after the sync all music that was not purchased through iTunes will not play on my phone. I figured out how to "homeshare" those songs but they aren't really on my phone so once wifi is off I no longer have them. Any suggestions? Most of these song were off of cds. I don't want to purchase them all again through iTunes what a waste of money. I'm feeling super annoyed.
Thanks for any help!

Hi there dryval76!
There are a couple of reasons for seeing an issue such as that. I have a couple of articles that can help you troubleshoot and find out the source of the issue. The first is an article about troubleshooting issues with playing songs in iTunes, and it can be found here:
iTunes 11 for Mac: If you have trouble playing music or other audio
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12135
If the issue is happening in all areas of your computer, not just iTunes, then you will want to reference this article:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • IPhone will not sync any music not purchased in iTunes.

I have had an iPhone/iPod touch for 6 years, and have never had a problem like this. It's really irritating.
A couple of weeks ago, for some reason, iTunes stopped syncing music to my phone. It wouldn't add anything else. After a couple of tries, it deleted ALL of my music from my phone that had not been purchased in iTunes. It shows up on my phone, but won't let me play it. I've had an iPhone 4S for nearly two years, and I am really frustrated with this. Has anyone had a similar problem, or might know what's going on? I was thinking I should try to erase everything from my phone and start again, but I don't know if that will solve my issue.
I am running the latest software on everything.

Also 599 songs couldnt be sync'd to ipad and had 690 overall :/ no songs have exclamation marks on them or problems they all work.

  • Itunes was reinstalled on my MacAir and in the process my playlists disapeared. How can I sync theses playlists which are still on my Ipod back to the iTunes library? PS: these are not purchased from iTunes, they are my own cd's.Thanks.

  • HT1473 How can I transfer my music (not purchased from Itunes) from my Ipad/Iphone to my new Itunes library on a Macbook Pro?

I've recently bought a new Macbook Pro and in my Itunes Library everything I have purchased from Itunes is in my new Itunes Library.
However I want to transfer all my music (not purchased from itunes) from my Ipad/Iphone to my new Itunes Library.... and I have absoutely no idea how to do this? Also I'm scared to press sync when my ipad is plugged into my Mac incase will loose all this music!
    Help Please!

The iphone/ipad/ipod is not a backup/storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone/ipad/ipod.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.

Many thanks JEM24 for your help.  Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone  the actual cost of each additional  gigabyte of storage  to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Many thanks again though for helping me.

  • How do you sync new music not purchased in iTunes to my iPhone

    Hey there,
I've always been able to sync all of my music (some purchased through iTunes, some from CDs, and some downloaded from YouTube and converted to MP3) without a problem. Recently I've noticed my new music that I've got from YouTube isn't syncing to my iPhone. It plays fine in iTunes though, and other music I've got using this method plays fine on my iPhone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    *iPhone 5S 16GB
    *iOS 8.2

Don't worry there is an easy fix to this,
your phone is probably not "synced" to the computer (just another dumb iTunes thing).
How to fix: 1. Plug your iPhone into your computer, then click on it when it appears in iTunes.
    2. Under the "settings" tab in iTunes click music
    3. At the top it should say "sync music" with a little check box next to it, If it is unchecked, click it.
    4. at the bottom right of the page click "apply", a dialog box should appear telling you that you are going to erase your music (don't worry it doesn't actually erase),
    5. click "ok" or "yes" whatever the box says to continue, then another dialog box should appear saying that if you conform you will be erasing all your iPhone's settings and content, (again don't worry it doesn't actually)
    6. you should now be able to sync music onto your device (assuming is a supported format ex. mp3)

  • Music not purchased from iTunes will not play on iPhone after iOS5 update

Music that I have purchased from iTunes syncs perfectly to the iPhone (3GS) but the music from my library that was not purchased from iTunes (burned from a CD) will show up in the iPhone music list but does not have any artwork nor will it play that music!  Currently my solution has been to delete the defunct music from the iPhone and recopy it from iTunes.  The music will then play but the artwork is missing.  This is a rather irritating problem.  Is anyone else having this issue?  If so, any are any other solutions?  Thanks!

I have just noticed that I am missing songs since I upgraded to iOS5.  In some cases the art work is there and the length of the song is there but it will not play.  I'm going to try and resync when I get home.  I'll have to check to see if the songs still exist in my iTunes???  Nothing is ever easy is it??

  • How can I get music (not purchased from iTunes) and photos from my iPad onto my MacBook?

I just recently had my hard drive replaced and lost all of my music and photos from it. I have all of my music and photos backed up onto my iPad and iPhone via iCloud.
I was able to download all of my purchased music from iTunes, back onto my MacBook. The problem is, how do I get the other music and photos from my iPad, back onto my MacBook?

Is there any possible way to backup music that I did not purchase from iTunes on to iCloud?
    No.
... if I happened to break my iPad, or if something happened to my Laptop.
If you like your music library, back up your laptop.
If you lose or break your iPad, you can sync your iTunes music library to a brand new one. You will lose nothing.
If you lose your laptop, or it crashes, or becomes virus-infested, you can restore your iTunes music library from your backup. You will lose nothing. Without a backup though, your music resides only on the iPad, and extracting it will require the assistance of third party (paid) utilities. Worse, there is no guarantee they will continue to function after some future iOS upgrade, since the iPad is not designed to work that way.
There are dozens of questions every day from people who lost their iTunes music when their laptop crashed. Your laptop will crash - it's only a question of when.

  • How can I transfer music not purchased on iTunes to my new computer from my iPod?

I recently got a new computer and wanted the music from my iPod on it. I have a ton of CD's so over half the things I have on my iPod aren't things I purchased from iTunes.
When I went through the process of transferring (it only gave the option to transfer purchases) there were no songs from any of my CDs.
I have tried everything I know how and still I have not found anything to actually help. I've backed it up and there is still nothing new in my iTunes.
Why can I not transfer items not purchased from iTunes to my new computer? How do I do this?
I would greatly appreciate it if you would put an answer in the simplest form possible as I am not very tech-savvy.
I would also like to do this simply and without downloading another program if at all possible.
I have a Windows 7 computer if that is of any help.
    Thank you!

  • I was trying to move my itunes to an external hard drive and I have now lost all music not purchased with itunes

I was trying to move my music to an external hard drive but now I have lost all music that was not purchased with itunes. I never hit delete so its still somewhere on my imac. How do I find it?

Do a Spotlight search or do a logical search along folders that make sense such as looking in the music folder first.  Moving a library correctly should not result in any loss, and I can't think of any way to move a library and lost just a select grouping of files.  How were you trying to effect this?

  • How can i sync music not purchased from itunes from my iphone to itunes library on my pc?

    Hi
I have quite a lot of music on my phone that I've ripped from cds that I have. How can I get these to sync into my itunes library on my pc? I want to upgrade to the new os but will lose a lot of my music if i do.
    Any help appreciated
    Nachan

If after researching the info in the other comments you still find that there is music that you would loose on the iPhone, there are 3rd party apps that can manage iPhone content without erasing the iPhone. Just search for a Windows alternative to iTunes.
    This one is popular for both Mac & PC;

  • Is there a way for iTunes to sync music not purchased from iTunes to my account from my iPhone?

I accidentally wiped out all the memory from my desktop computer, including all the music from my Window's media player and itunes. All of my favorite music is stored on my iPhone, most of which was not bought from iTunes. iTunes only synced the music I purchased directly from iTunes, but I want to know if there's a way I can get the music I didn't buy from iTunes off my iPhone and back on my computer. I apologize if that was really confusing.

  • Music Not Purchased from iTunes Not Synching

My iPhone 5 no longer syncs any tracks that I did not purchase directly from iTunes (such as those I uploaded from CDs.) The albums show up on my phone, but when I attempt to play the songs they refuse to start and a red stop sign appears next to them (as if they are coming from the iCloud, but not downloading.) Any suggestions?
