HT4528 How do I make my phone number private on the iphone 5?

I just bought the iphone 5.  I cannot figure out how to make my outgoing calls private.  On the older iphone there was a caller ID section.  I can't find that on the iphone 5.  Thanks.

  • How do I make a hands free call with the iphone 4s?

How do I make a hands free call with the iphone 4s?  I have a bluetooth car device and when I try to talk through it (as I did with my old phone) to call someone it does not work.  so far only hte last person called is redialed.

That is a carrier-based service. So first you have to make sure your service contract includes that feature.
It usually also includes Call Hold. So you call the first party, put them on hold, call the second, then reactivate the first. But only if your carrier allows you to.

  • Switched from Blackberrry to iphone.  I can't highlight phone numbers in contact notes and make calls from that number, how do I make a phone number "live" ?

How do I make email addresses and phone numbers in the notes section of contacts, "live"?  I could run curser over number in Blackberry and could intiate call or email by clicking on it.  I have some of those "live", but most are not.  How can I change to "live"?

If I go to my notes app ( not a note in a contact) and I add a phone number and tap done the number becomes live.  However if I then copy the live number from the notes app and try and paste it into the notes field in a contact it is no longer live.  Weird huh

  • Is it possible to make my phone number private?

I have a lot of contacts on Skype, but some of them I either do not know well enough or do not trust enough, and I don't want them to have access to my phone number unless I explicitly give it to them. I'm sure a lot of other people have the same issue--many people use Skype voice chat with strangers to better coordinate their playing video games, etc., but don't want any of those people to have their phone number. On both Skype's website and program, I've tried to edit my profile but the phone number option is greyed out and set to "Contacts". I don't want my contacts to have access to my phone number. I want it private, like my email address. Is there a way to achieve this?

Hi, Pirateshota, and welcome to the Community,
Unfortunately, no there is not.  For those items that are set by default to be displayed to your contacts, and which you do not want certain contacts to see that particular data, the only option you have is to leave that setting as "blank" or "not specified."
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • HT201407 How do I activate my iphone 4 phone number?  My  old iPhone broke and want to activate this new one with the same number

Long story:  My son broke his iphone 4 screen through repeated droppings.  But my wife upgraded from her iphone 4 to the 5, and wants to give said son her unblemished 4.  He has saved to icloud and we have deleted all the content and restored settings on wife's iphone 4.  So on the unbroken iphone 4 all of the son's contents, contacts, app, etc., are there, but how do I activate the phone with his number? so he can receive calls/ texts?

Insert the active SIM card for that phone number and connect the iphone to itunes.

  • How do i use my phone number instead of my apple id for imessage on my iphone5?

I accidentally selected my apple id for sending and receiving imessages. I want to be reached at my phone number and not my email first, but I can't figure out how to make my phone number the primary and my email the secondary.
Also, my son and I are in a text message mode between our phones (both apple products) and we can't figure out how to get back to imessage mode. We have both powered off and shut down imessage and we are still going green to each other.

  • How do I make a phone call from my mac with yosemite?

How do I make a phone call from my MacBook Pro on the Yosemite operating system?

The following quotation is from Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
There is more information in the link, including supported hardware and that you must have Settings > FaceTime > iPhone Cellular Calls set to on on the iPhone.
    Phone calls
With Continuity, you can make and receive cellular phone calls from your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac when your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
To make and receive phone calls, here's what you need:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices, including your Mac.
Your iPhone and your iPad or iPod touch need to use iOS 8 or later. Your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
All devices must be signed in to FaceTime using the same iCloud account. This means any device that shares your Apple ID will get your phone calls. Look below for instructions on how to turn off iPhone cellular calls.
Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off. Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
    Make a call
To make a phone call on your Mac, iPad or iPod touch tap or click a phone number in Contacts, Calendar, or Safari.

You need to log out of iMessage and Facetime, make sure your number is correct in Settings/General/About, then log back in again to send a new activation request.

Make sure that the iPad is using the same Apple ID as your iPhone. If the phone number still doesn't appear, log out of iMessage on both devices, log back in on the iPhone, wait until it activates, then log into iMessage on the iPad with the same Apple ID.

  • How do I add a phone number to Favorites?

How do I add a phone number to Favorites?

Here's How:  Tap the phone icon from the iPhone's the home screen. Tap the Favorites icon at the bottom left. Click the "plus" icon at the top right to add favorites. This will bring up your full contacts list. Scroll through it or jump to a letter to find the contact you want. When you've found the name, tap it. This will bring up the contact's information, including all their phone numbers. Tap the phone number you want to make a favorite. That name and phone number are now listed in your "Favorites" menu. Next to the person's name is a small note indicating whether the number is work, home, mobile, etc. To rearrange the order of your Favorites, go to the phone app and tap the "Edit" button in the top left. This will bring up a screen with red icons to the left of the favorites and an icon that looks like a small stack of three lines on the right. Tap the three-line icon and hold it. The Favorite you've selected will become active (when active, it appears to be slightly above the other Favorites). Drag the Favorite to the position in the list you want it to have and let it go. Click "done" in the top left and your favorites will be reordered.

  • How do I block a phone number calling my iPhone?

How do I block a phone number calling my iPhone, so it only hears a busy tone?

You cannot do this on the iPhone - this is a feature/service that must be provided by the carrier. Contact your carrier and ask if they can do this. In the US, for example, AT&T offers as part of the SmartLimits package.

  • How do I make a phone call from iPad?

I set up my iPhone 5S personal hotspot, then link to it on the iPad (both running iOS 8). I can access the internet from the iPad, but cannot make a FaceTime phone call. Did I misunderstand the Keynote address that this would be possible with iOS 8?

    Joe,
I hope you can help as I have the same issue.  First the basics: my iPhone 5 and iPad Air both have iOS 8 installed (there are still three family devices on the same apple id/icloud account that are not yet on iOS 8).  Both devices list the same phone number in Messages and FaceTime and both those apps use the same iCloud account.  Both devices are on the same wifi network.
But when I get a call on my iPhone, the iPad most definitely does not give me the option to respond.  And nothing happens when I try to tap on a contact on the iPad.  :-( :-(
I went through the links above and note a couple odd things.  For instance, the user guide says:
"Disable iPhone Cellular Calls.  On your iPhone, go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn off iPhone Cellular Calls"
When I go to my iPhone's Settings->FaceTime, there is no option to "turn off iPhone Cellular Calls".  What are they talking about?
In the third link, the instructions for making phone calls have a fourth step:
         4. Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off.
What does that mean?  Where do I look to make sure it's off?
As an aside, I'm writing this from my 2010 MBP running Yosemite beta 3 and there appears to be no connection between it and my nearby iPhone either.  My MBP is on the same wifi network as the iPhone and both the Mac's FaceTime and Messages have the same phone # set as on the iPhone.  But when I go into the address book and look up a contact, no "phone" icon/button shows up next to the contact's phone number.  When  a call comes into the iPhone, nothing happens on the mac.
