tried holding home and on off at same time. hook up to my computer but doesnt recognize it .power cord is known good from other i phones in the house.anything else i can try ?

Take it to an Apple Store genius bar it has 12 month warranty not a "phone shop"

Does the Vibrate/Mute switch make the iPhone vibrate? Does iTunes on computer recognize the iPhone? If not, then possibly the battery is faulty or worse. If yes, then the LCD Display is not working, possibly the connector came loose and simply needs to be pressed down to the logic board. Of the LCD Display is faulty and the front screen assembly needs to be replaced. Or worse. If there is Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, Replacement iPhone is $199 or battery is $80 with Apple.

Ipad Screen went black and wont turn on

My wife was using my Ipad this morning, I have had it for about 2 weeks got it as a Christmas present. She was on Facebook and the screen just went black. Hitting the home key or the power key to turn it back on and nothing happened.
Any thoughts?

Thinking that all of the apps displayed in that tray are open and running is a common misconception. In fact, what you are looking at is the Multitasking (MT) Tray, sometimes also referred to as the Recents Tray, and is an ordered list of those apps which were last opened. Very very few of those apps will be multitasking capable and not all of those will actually still be open and doing something in the background. Obvious examples of those working would be a music app still playing, while common examples of not opened but displayed would be, well ...... with a few exceptions, pretty much everything else.
That said, it is a corrective action for a hung or crashing app as what you are describing is one of the two ways to Force Quit an application; by going through and deleting all of them you actually will also do this and might fix whatever the issue is. However, the app causing the problem is normally going to be at the very top of the apps displayed in the MT Tray.

Have you tried a reset? Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time for up to 20 seconds. Hopefully the Silver Apple will display, which will mean the phone is resetting (no data will be lost). As soon as the Silver Apple appears, release the buttons, and wait until the Home screen comes back on.
You should be OK after that.

Try plugging it into its charger. If an empty battery with a charging symbol appears, you're good. Just let it charge for a few minutes.
If you were using your phone excessively and it is extremely hot, wait until it cools down then turn it on again.

So I clicked a email that contained a 2 hour lecture on it, and then my screen went black and wont turn on or even connect to my Itunes. What could be wrong?

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

In another thread, someone suggested you hold down both the on/off button and the home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then phone will automatically reboot. It worked for me. On caution...you need to hold those buttons down concurrently for a fairly long time--probably about 20-30 seconds. Don't give up on it early.

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. I thought my iPhone 3g was turning off and not turning back on, later I receive usage warnings when I wasn't using my iPhone. when this first happened, I could restart it only by rebooting. The iPhone eventually( in a matter of days) wouldn't reboot, so my son said drop it on the carpet floor. I did, then successfully rebooted the iPhone only to have it randomly repeat the blackout minutes later. rarely does it stay on for any length of time unless it is in use.

Itunes will pop a message stating it has detected a phone in recovery mode. just follow the on screen instruction then to restore your phone. The Genuis' first said a software glitch did something that did NOT fix it. Gave me a 2nd new phone within one week......still doing the same thing.
