  • I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1 and my Photos, Videos, contacts, music, App data, etc. was deleted. How can I all the data back?

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • I updates my iPad with the latest iOS and despite backing up all the information prior, my iBooks application was deleted along with a hundred important PDFs on it. Is it possible to locate these missing files? Urgently requires assistance. Thank you!

    Hi Sam,
I understand where you are about being your own IT department, it can be overwhelming ...
What drives to buy depends an awful lot on how you will use them, what your budget is, and your preferences.
In the case of your DP Powermac, for online storage used primarily for editing, I would add one or more internal drives first. Look for drives that are at least 7200rpm and have at least an 8MB cache. 10,000rpm/16MB cache is even better, but more expensive. Seagate Barracudas have always been good choices.
For backup purposes, I'd pick some good external FireWire drives; you can also use these for online editing, lots of people do. Your Mac has both FW400 and FW800 ports - either kind is fine but if you get drives that support both, you would want to connect them to the FW800 port for the added performance.
In my experience, the Lacie d2 Extreme drives have been very very good. In fact I have 3 of them daisy-chained off my iMac G5 right now and they work flawlessly with FCE. Weibetech and Granite Digital drives are further upscale in performance and price. RAID configurations would be even further upscale. Do stay away from consumer level hard drives, however ... the Western Digital MyBook series & no-name drives come to mind ...
Don't use a FireWire hub for your external drives, it's just asking for trouble.
ps. And thanks for your nice comment about me. I'm happy to help, as are other folk in the forum.

  • Updating iPad to the latest iOS without computer

Friend of mine bought an iPad 6 months ago, he does not own ANY computer (iPad is the only device). He is still running the original iOS on it, how can update his iPad without a computer to the latest iOS 4.2?
If he syncs his iPad with my iTunes on my MacBook Pro will lose any content? Will stuff get transfered over to my MacBook Pro? We just want to update his iPad iOS ONLY without making ANY changes to my iTunes or his iPad. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

A computer is needed to update the iOS. If the iPad has never been synced to to another computer it should be easy to backup the iPad to your computer and transfer purchases (you need to authorize your computer to his account) and do the update and it should automatically restore and sync after the update. A backup is supposed to be made before an update but to be sure, when the iPad is connected to the computer right click on the iPad in iTunes and select backup. I would also save a copy of the backup in another location and backup the iTunes library (with his transfered apps and other stuff) also to make sure they are not lost. You can find the location of the backup here:

  • I can't update my iPad to the latest iOS

It doesn't give me the option to update

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • HT4623 Do I need to update my iPad to the latest IOS?

I have an iPad 3rd gen.  Is it important to update to the new 7.0 IOS?   I heard a rumour that it was going to be compulsory?????

If you do not have any Apps that *need* iOS 7 or any real need to update and you are updating just for the sake of updating, I would just wait. You could very well have an issue-free update as the majority of people have but you also stand the chance of running into issues reported here and elsewhere.
You will eventually have to update though due to apps eventually requiring iOS 7. In my personal use, I have no need nor desire to update at this point...there's no big rush. Wait for a few more iOS updates that will hopefully clear up some of the more common issues users are having. Remember that once you DO update to iOS 7, it's impossible to go back to the previous iOS version.

  • Why can't I update my iPad to the latest iOS

I have the iPad 1 st generation and have tried several times to download iOS5 but the system downloads 75% then terminates the download, any idea on how to fix it?
Also does the iPad 1st gen have face time? It has the tiny camera on the front but no "app" sign throughout the menu.
    Thanks

There is no camera on the face of the iPad 1 and no FaceTime app either. There would be no sense in having FaceTime without the camera. That little tiny hole that you see is the ambient light sensor which will adjust the screen brightness automatically if set to do so in the settings.
Disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily and then try to download and install the iOS update.

  • Is there a bug in the latest iOS7 operating system update

is there a bug in the latest iOS7 operating system update

iOS 7 and System 7 are not the same.  System 7 refers to the operating system on Macs from 1991 to 1996.
I've requested this thread be moved.

  • How do you upload imported cd's onto an ipad with the latest ios.

Im having great trouble getting my songs that i just imported from a cd onto my computer to upload to my ipad which has ios 5.0.1. if  anyone could help me it would be great.

Assuming that you imported the music into iTunes on the computer ....
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. If you auto sync, let the process complete.
Click on the iPad name on the left sidebar under the devices heading.
Click on the Music Tab in iTunes on the right.
Click on the Sync Music heading
Click on all of the songs, playlists, albums, etc. that you want to transfer to the iPad.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • After updated my iPad with the latest iOS my iPad will not show me the home screen

my iPad will not boot up like my iPhone 4 when i installed iOS 8.
