s there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows?
You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes. You may get the following message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
You can click Yes to continue downloading additional episodes. Or you can just listen to any part of any episode and a new episode will download at the next update.

I believe that feature was added in order to reduce wasted costs to the Podcaster.
Podcasts incur costs - that have to be paid for, by someone. That cost will be the cost of hosting the Podcast on a server somewhere and more crucially (with regard to your point), the cost of the Podcast being downloaded to your computer. Every download costs the Podcaster money (typically, charged by bytes downloaded).
If that Podcaster pays for the whole thing personally, obviously they want to keep down any unnecessary cost to themselves. If the Podcaster is earning money for his or her Podcast (typically from advertising within the programme) then obviously, the advertiser only wants to pay for advertisements heard by listeners. So a download, not heard by the downloader, is waste of the Podcaster's money or no payment from the advertiser.
My own experience is that I only have to resume downloading once per programme. I'm usually several episodes behind on two different Podcasts that I follow, but I do not recall having to repeat the resume Podcast after that first time.

Three months ago, photos I shot on my iphone 4 stopped automatically downloading onto my pc into the Photostream folder.
    Have not touched settings. Why?

If you changed the default folder for photo stream photos you might want to uncheck photo stream on the icloud control panel, then recheck it without changing the default location then take a new photo on your device and see if it syncs now.  (Some users have reported problems when they changed the default location.)

  • How do I Stop automatic downloads of Movies and Shows... Apparently iTunes will begin downloading every available show or movie I have even after I have told it to delete the shows

I have Season 1 of Elementary. I do not want it downloaded to my laptop. I purchase a new movie and begin the download of the movie. iTunes immediately begins downloading EVERYTHING that I have not downloaded. the Entire Season of Elementary along with all the other Seasons I have and ALL the iTunes Extras that I HATE SO MUCH cause they wont go away. Even when I Hide the iTunes Extras... They still want to download...  I have gone thru preferences and settings but can't find any setting to stop this type of action... Anyone have any ideas???

I would try deselecting the options Always check for available downloads, Download pre-orders when available, and Automatic Downloads of Music, Apps and Books, under Edit > Preferences > Store, sign out of the store, clear the iTunes store cache under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and clear the contents of <Media Folder>\Downloads.
In some cases the iTunes Store may remember that you have items waiting to be delivered in your queue. In such cases you will need to ask the store support staff to flush the queue for you.

  • How do I stop automatic downloads of entire HD TV seasons on EVERY computer?

When I purchase an HD TV season on my iPad, it automatically unavoidably downloads every single episode on all four of my Macs with the same iTunes account. This has resulted in multiple warnings from my ISP about my bandwidth limit.
I have no desire to ever watch TV shows on my Macs — I watch them on the TV with the iPad plugged in with HDMI. Each TV season is something like 33 GB, and whenever I purchase one I am forced to download the entire thing exactly 5 times. That's 165 GB. Comcast has sent me multiple warning slips about this threatening to terminate service.
How do I stop this? I just want to store my shows in the digital locker and fetch them manually on whichever device I want. I do not want automatic syncinc at all. There appear to be checkboxes in the Mac iTunes that say "Automatic Downloads" for Music, Apps, and Books — but none for TV shows and movies, which are the worst criminals here. These are all unchecked but none would apply to TV.
I love the idea of iTunes TV shows — the quality is fantastic, the price is right, and I canceled cable ages ago. But I'm going to have to stop for bandwidth reasons if I can't address this. I've scoured Google looking for a solution and no one has come up with one. Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening?

I don't think you read my post. Automatic downloads for Music, Books, and Apps are all unchecked but there is no general Automatic Downloads option to uncheck, and none for TV or Movies.

  • How do i stop automatic downloads of tv shows from other devices

If i buy or download a tv show on another device such as apple tv or an ipad, how do i stop it from downloading automatically when i open up itunes in my IMAC?

There is no way to designate one specific purchased item to not auto-download and remain in the cloud, but you can specify certain kinds of purchased items like videos, music, books, etc.
In iTunes > Preferences > Store Preferences on your computer, make sure to uncheck "Always check for available downloads" and "Automatically download pre-orders".
Initiate the purchase on a device other your computer. The simplest way would be to initiate the purchase on a Apple TV, as those purchases will now remain in the cloud and not auto-download to iTunes on your computer.

  • Stop automatic downloading

    Dear Friends,
Everytime I crank up iTunes it automatically starts to download podcasts I subscribed to. How can I stop this behavior.
I have iTunes installed on two hard drives. One downloads automatically the other waits for me to initiate the download. I want the behavior of the latter on both.
It lists all the podcasts and I can look at which ones I want to update and get them manually.
I don't want every episode of every podcast I like. I have 20-30 podcasts which I listen to periodically. I'd like to be able to control this behavior. There must be a way to switch this off, but I can't find it. Thanks
PS. I am using itunes 9

for an unknown reason, in itunes 11 (with os 10.8.3), opening the software start an automatic download of any subscribed podcasts - even with settings "check for new episodes" set to "manual" and podcast defaults "when new episodes are available" set to "do nothing"…
anyone as the same issue ?
    thank you for your concern

  • How do I stop automatic downloads?

Okay, I redeemed some codes that came with blurays for digital copies of movies. Thing is, I have a bandwidth cap and really don't want to download them. Plus, after all, I have a blu-ray.
I went into Preferences and clicked the Store tabbed and unchecked Music, Apps, Book, from Automatic Downloads. There doesn't seem to be a option for movies. I also have "Always check for avaliable downloads" unchecked.
Can someone please help me? This is getting very annoying. Especially when it's trying to download the HD copy & SD copy of the same movie.

You answered your own question. I do it so I will have a digital copy of it when I want it before a code expires. That doesn't mean I want to download it right that second, I just want iTunes to register it as a purchase so I can download it when I'd like.
What's even worse. What if you watch the digital copy of the movie and then want to delete it to make space on your Hard Drive? iTunes will insist on you downloading that it.

  • How to stop automatic downloads after launching itunes...

Itunes sucked 10 years ago, and it still does today....
Here is the solution to that nagging problem of Itunes automatically downloading an app, music, book, etc everytime you launch it, even after you uncheck the settings for automatic downloads, and even after you try to pause and/or delete the specific download:
1.) Complete any downloads that you actually want itunes to download.
2.) Delete any downloads that you do not want.
3.) Close Itunes or make sure that it is already closed.
4.) Open the folder on your harddrive (or SSD) that contains the Itunes Media folder location.*
5.) Inside of that folder, open the folder named "Downloads".
6.) Select everything inside that folder and delete it. Those items will either go to your recycling bin or (depending on your Windows settings) if the file sizes are too great, they will be deleted off the drive.
7.) Restart Itunes and nothing should start to download.
*If you do not know where that folder is located click Edit--->Preferences...--->Advanced. The exact location to the folder is listed in the box titled Itunes Media folder location. Feel free to change it. I changed mine to d:\itunes. My d: drive is my harddrive. I refuse to put on my main C: drive because my main C: drive is an SSD, and everytime you write on an SSD you reduce its life span. Also, SSD's are limited in space.

I would like to know how to purchase something and not have it download at the time of purchase.

  • HT4539 no automatic download of purchased music

    Hi, everybody.
Does anyone know the reason why the songs I buy in the store from my iMac don't appear on my iPad and iPhone?
(I've checked both on the iMac and on the devices whether automatic downloading is enabled. It definitely is).
    Thanks for any information.
    Anita

    Thanks, varjak.
Not a dumb question at all.
It's me who's dumb, 'cause I didn't check in the right place.
Actually, I found later that the song I bought has been downloaded on all my devices.
    Thanks again.

  • Stop automatic downloading on Elements 11

I tried to assist a student today so that she can plug in a USB flash drive and not have elements organizer grab the images.  While I could delay the process in the Preferences, I couldn't find a simple way to turn off the automatic downloading.  I would rather have students go to the Organizer and deliberately use the Import command.
Otherwise, they get things in the Organizer that they never wanted there.  Have I missed the command in the Preferences which will do this?
    Thanks.
    Mary Lou

You should be able to contol this setting based from windows autoplay. Go to control panel and search for autoplay. Once autoplay dialog comes, select 'ask me everytime' option from flyout at all those places where 'PSE' is selected. Do let me know if it doesn't work for you.

  • How do i stop firefox from stopping automatic downloads of certain sites

I have certain sites that FireFox will not let to download automatically. I keep clicking on allow and it will let the page download until I do this several times.
How do I stop FireFox and Aurora from doing this?

    See:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • How do I stop automatic download of TV shows?

I just bought a season pass for TV show on my new iPad. It instantly started to download every single episode of that show, there is no space on my ipad. I thought that I would simply be able to pick the shows that I wanted to download and watch at my leisure.
Now I can't do anything on my iPad because I'm constantly being flooded with error messages about space, and as soon as I free up a few kilobytes it immediately start download more episodes.
I've turned off all of the automatic syncing options and settings (the few that there are) and yet it keeps trying to download the episodes. How do I make this stop?
I searched the forums in the Internet and it seems that there is no reliable solution to this problem. Lots of people are asking the same question in the Apple forums and very few have gotten even a single reply.

Did you also check if autosync for TV shows is deactivated in iTunes when you connect your device?
    All autodownloads deactivated in Settings/Store?
Did you already reset your iPad by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?

  • Firefox 11.0 has stopped automatically downloading PDFs when I click a link. The Downloads folder is still selected in Preferences.

When I click on a PDF that would normally cause the downloads folder to open, I am instead taken to a blank white webpage and nothing happens.

I recently installed Flash Player to preview an FLV file that I put on my website. I can't remember if the problem started after that installation.
