HT4539 uddate ios

I can"t find where i need to go for ipod updates since updating my itunes to11.0. help?? trying to update ipod from 4.2 to 4.3 if anyone can help.

Whether you can update the iPod will depend upon which model it is - the second gen iPod Touch only supports up to iOS 4.2.1, and the third gen iOS 5.1.1 (and you can only update to the highest iOS version that it supports e.g. you can only update a 3rd gen iPod to 5.1.1).
With iTunes 11 you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), which might make it easier to navigate and my instructions may make more sense.
I assume that the iPod is empty judging by your post's tagline, and that there isn't any content on it that you want to copy off (?).
Connect the iPod to your computer and you should be able to start the update by selecting the iPod on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

How do I update to IOS 4.3?

Depends on what iDevice you have...if yours will not go beyond iOS 4.3, connect to a computer with iTunes and follow the onscreen permission to update your software.
If your device goes beyond 4.3 it will update to the latest applicable iOS version.

  • HT4539 How do I download iOS 6 to my iPad?

I have been trying to download the iOS to my ipad2. How can I do that without using a computer?

If you already have iOS 5+ on it (Settings > General > About > Version) then you should have a Settings > General > Software Update option on it for updating directly on it. If you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
To update via your computer, connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

Your iPad will update to iOS 6.0.1, so you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change.

  • HT4539 Do i need to keep copies of iOS apps in iTunes (on my computer)?

I have a Macbook Air, and would like to free up some space. I noticed there are copies of all my apps (and family's apps) in my iTunes library, and found the setting that was marked for automatic downloads of apps purchases from another device. Can I safely delete these iOS apps from my computer to free up space without affecting my ability to use/update/download them on inidvidual devices? Thanks!

Generally speaking yes you do not need to keep local copies of the installer files, as you can re-download purchased content from the iTunes or App stores anyway (an exception is audiobooks, which are not available for re-download).
There is one reason to keep apps or some apps around though.  If the developer pulls a particular version of an app and replaces it with another version, the only version available for re-download will be the current one, regardless of which version you originally purchased or want on your device.
So for older devices, like an iPad 1, this may be important.  An iPad 1 cannot be updated beyond iOS 5.1.1 and many apps in the stores have been updated and now require iOS 5, 6 or 7.  In that situation, an iPad 1's owner may have only their own saved copies of compatible apps for re-installation if necessary.
Or, as the case with QuickOffice Pro, which was recently purchased by Google.  Google has removed many useful features in their modified version of QuickOffice, and if someone wants to continue to use the older, pre-Google version, then they need to keep the installer saved locally as it is no longer available.
So there are a few circumstances where you may want to keep some app's installers saved locally for yourself.

  • HT4539 How do ypu perform the "IOS update" required to get ringtones on my cell?

How do I perform the "IOS update" required to get ringtones on my cell?  I can't figure it out through the ITunes store....

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If an update is available for your device, connect it to iTunes and use the update feature.
However, you do not need to update your device in order to use ringtones. Simply select the ringtones you wish to sync to your device from the Tones tab in iTunes on your computer when your device is connected to it, and perform a sync.

What version of iOS that your iPod will be updated to will depend upon which generation it is - older iPod Touches can't update to more recent iOS versions.  If it's a recent model then it should update to iOS 6, in which case you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change.

I have no idea what you are asking. If you have an iPod Touch 5th Generation and you are running iOS 7.0.4 as indicated by your profile there is no Apple approved means to downgrade the OS.
