Since you don't say how old your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

    Try restarting holding down the SHIFT key. That will do a directory check in Safe mode. It will take longer to start so continue to be patient.
    If it starts in Safe mode, then restart normally and see how that goes.

    Go back to the iPad's homescreen so that the App Store isn't the app that is 'on-screen' i.e. click the home button (the button below the iPad's screen).
    These instructions are for iOS 6, which shows in your first post - if your iPad is on the current iOS version, i.e. iOS 7 then these instructions won't apply, how you close apps in iOS 7 has changed.
    Then double-click the home button, and along the bottom of the iPad's screen a 'taskbar' should appear with the icons of your recently used apps :
    Then press and hold one of those icons for a second or two and they should start to shake and get a '-' symbol on their top corner - tap the one on the App Store's icon and the app will be closed and disappear off the taskbar (it doesn't delete the app from your iPad).
    Then tap any part of the screen above the taskbar which should stop the apps that are showing on the taskbar from shaking and the taskbar should also close.
    Then retry the App Store app and see if it works.

  • My iPhone "thinks" its on a dock all the time. There is nothing wrong with the speakers. What is going on?

    My phone will not play music through the external speakers. The headphone jack works fine, I looked into the docking port and nothing seems to be out of place. The phone is ALWAYS in a case (Otterbox then Lifeproof), has NEVER been dropped. When I downloaded iOS6 is when I noticed the problem occuring. If I go to settings > Sounds > Ringers and select a song, it plays through the speaker no problem, but if I go to, say, YouTube (or the music app), no sound unless I use headphones. I'm going to the genius bar soon but I'd like to know if its an easy fix so I dont waste time driving all the way to the apple store (closest one is about 1.5h away from me). Any info is appreciated. Thanks

    Thank you for that advice, unfortunately I have already done this. I've also done all the reset/restores under the sun. I checked for water damage in case for some reason it was triggered by humidity (I have it at work all the time). No avail. At this point I'm kind of out of ideas. Thanks again though.

  • X200 black screen and beep sound when power module is plugged on and off

    Hello,
    I have the following problem. Today I turned on my X200 without power module, and when I plugged in power - the screen starts to flicker. This was not before, and I am using my laptop only during a week.
    After that I turned on the laptop with power module, it was OK, but when I plug out and plug in power module, computer makes "beep" sound and becomes black for a second. Is that normal behavior?
    Thank you!

    does your battery hold a full charge. is it in good shape.  is your machine under warranty. you could try support, but they're probably just gonna tell you to open a service claim.  another thing, did it always do this or is this something that just started. did you just download any updates and this started right after. or did it just start doing this for no reason.

  • Firefox Update for Mac pops up, I click OK, but NOTHING happens. The "connecting" bars starts, but goes on and on ad infinitum.

    There's a message telling me a certain add-on (which I can't identify) "will be disabled" for the time being.
    I hide the pop- up, but half an hour later, it's apparent no update has been received.

    If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
    Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • IPhone4 will not turn on. Tried reboot with home button and power button, and tried with sim out. Left on charge for an hour and nothing. Tried plugged into PC and nothing. Tried holding any and all buttons one at a time and plugging into PC and nothing.

    Hi,
    This is for my wife's iPhone 4
    She was on a call and went to end the call and the phone just turned off.
    Left it on charge for an hour or so and nothing.
    I tried the old reboot (home button and power button) and nothing
    I tired with the sim out.
    And with it plugged into a PC, opened iTunes and it didn't recognize that the phone was plugged in.
    I tried my PC and nothing.
    My phone charges and connects to both PC's
    Tried holding the home button then plugging into PC
    Tried holding the power button then into PC
    I've now been trying different combinations for about 3 hours and now I'm all out of ideas.... :(
    Please please can some help before Tuesday when I will have to find someone to repair it.
    Thanks,

    Sounds like faulty battery. Make Genius reservation and take to Apple for quick (minutes) free battery diagnostic testing. If you have Warranty or AppleCare the problem will be covered.

  • How to blocks the main thread

    Hello,
    I have a multi-threaded application but the main thread doesnt blocks the application so the application quits just after started. Im using this code to block the main thread:
    /*BufferedReader r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    for(;;) {
    try {
    r.readLine();
    catch (IOException e) {
    I tryed to just use for(;;){} but it causes 100% of CPU using. This code above its very dangerous because sometimes System.in blocks the entire application (all threads)
    Thanks a lot

    This application its a socket server, Im doing:
    main {
    Thread1 - createServer();
    Thread2 - createLogging();
    waitForServerShutDown();
    the createServer method must be placed in a thread, its must not blocks the application because createLogging(); must be executed just after the server was created and createLogging(); doesnt blocks the application then... I must block the main{} to keeps application running

  • My fan is pulsing on and off

    Once my CPU get up to 60°C my CPU fan turns on until it gets down to 45-ish, which takes about 20 seconds. Then it turns off all together for 2 minutes until reaches 60°C again, at which point the cycle repeats. Is this normal behavior? Can I tell it to like.. run at 10% speed so that it keep itself cool rather than pulsing on at full speed once it reaches a certain temperature?

    Try to Reset your device:
    Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first.
    If that does not help, then try a Restore.

  • Audible fan noise even when idle.

    I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook 10.5.1 4GB Ram.
    WHENEVER I use the laptop I can hear the fan. It is not loud just a constant low drone in the background. Enough to be distracting.
    It is running at 1800rpm. CPU temp ~38oC, processor usage pretty much zero for ten minutes.
    I only ever heard the fan on my old iBook when running intensive activities.
    Is this normal?

    1800 rpm is the lowest fan speed, it is normal, however, there shouldn't be much of a sound except for a lil' wind blowing sound in the exhaust.

  • X61: Now the buzzing sound/noise comes...

    My X61 battery died few weeks ago after 18 months. Now comes the high pitch buzzing noise from inside. I suspect the fan, since I have not seen the HD indicator blinking. Since my warranty expired, I guess nothing Lenovo can do.

    No, that is another sound/noise, mutch lower more like humming.

    I noticed that the buzzing noise can be gone for several days, and then suddenly apear again.

  • Big fan noise problem: the rear fan won't shut off, the BIOS won't update, systemupdate locks up

    I received new ThinkStaion (oh boy, lots of memory and CPU speed, yay!)
    I unfortunately left the originally installed Vista OS on there.  Very much regretting that as I believe it contributes to the following problems (BIOS).
    So the original problem was that after just a month of using my new ThinkStation, the System Board died, and it had to be replaced. Honestly, all I did was choose the sleep or hibernate option in Vista to shut down.  Afterwards,poof! didn't even get the proper Power lights on the system.  I diagnosed this with the online docs and then sat for a few hours on our tech support line doing all the same things to re-diagnose it.
    So after the replacement, the rear fan will not shut off. Jet engine noise all day. I went into the system settings and selected "Quiet" for the Fan settings but that did not help.
    Research on this forum resulted in the possibility of a BIOS update fixing the problem.  Comparison to my co-workers systems which arrived at the same time shows this BIOS is woefully out of date, so even if it does not fix the fan issue I want to update it.  However, everything I've tried to do is failing for one reason or another.
    (The fan issue does need resolution since in one week I will end up sharing an office (first time in many years, thanks IBM for nothing!) so since I don't want us both to have to wear noise cancelling headsets, I'd like to fix this without having to just pull the @#$@ power to the fan. Grrrr. )
    I downloaded what I felt were the appropriate Lenovo apps to update both the BIOS and the serial number but none seem to work properly from the command line in Vista.  One of the two (can't recall which) asks me to reboot and it never actually shuts down. Eternal "Shutting Down" message. Ga!  The other throws some gosh awful

    Then I decided Vista might be the problem and found sites recommending flashing the BIOS from a bootable USB.  So I started down that path and after burning the wrong version, finally geting the AIK Vista tools installed and to the point of trying to make the USB bootable, it won't allow me to put the OS boot on it.  Ah, for the days when a simple "sys a:" took care of that.
    So, after reformatting the USB and pounding my head in the wall, keyboard, etc. I am at my wit's end.  What to do.  I just want the fan noise to go away.
    This does seem to duplicate other forum messages but I can't get anywhere on this.  Help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    FYI to all the helpful folks here (and any looking to shut their jet engine off as well): Flashing the BIOS did the trick.
    First I had to find a website with DOS OS files and put those on the USB instead of Vista.  Oldie but a goodie, but at least it booted! No other versions would.
    I had been intending to use the WinPhlash utility that Lenovo supplied with the BIOS update but since I was booting from DOS that was useless. However, I found a DOS version of it and used that instead. Boom baby!  Flashed and rebooted.
    It did take two boots to get it back to normal (first one gave very alarming messages about no operating system being found but I think it was just a remnant of the reboot that was triggered from the DOS session).  A second boot returned life to normal and blissful silence from the server.  And I was finally able to get the model and serial number back in there to get rid of the bootup message it throws for that too.
    Ahhhhhhh.
    Thanks to all for the hints - I believe I had gotten the idea of flashing the BIOS to solve this from some other thread I found here.  This is a very nice forum to have bookmarked.
