HT4550 How to undo update on MacBook Pro OS X Lion?

i didnt know it was going to make think much of a difference when i updated it.. but i really dont like it at ALL !!   and i want my 5.1 back ! please help!! i really need it backk

Hi
This really becomes down to an old saying: "You can have a good system or a cheap system". Not both at the same time.
As eww already stated you probably do not need 1,5GB for OS X or even WIN7 system. And the speed of an operating system comes down not when the partition has nearly filled, but it is rather related to the physical drive utilization. But OS X and WIN7 are both quite good handeling the hardware even when it's not that top-noch.
If you are into storage, buy a separate external storage device (for about $250 per 2TB) and attach it via FireWire - http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/produ ctID.106590800
And have a 1TB harddrive for operating systems giving both the MAC and WIN about 500GB of diskspace. That would set you back for about $100 or less.
So for a total of 3TB of storage you would then have been spent around $350 and you have a system that can deliver both speed and reliability.
Keep in mind that when you have the timemachine backup on the same physical drive as the stuff you are backing up, it does not only make the backup unnessecary but it will also make the usage of the computer very slow during the backup since the backup proccess reads and writes to the same physical drive.
I understand your technical curiosity and its not in anyway wrong to poke around (as I have done so as-well) but just understand that when you create this hazard platform combining original and "backup" data on the same drive you should really consider what information you store on that system. Just something to think about.

I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is slow in starting up and loads a number of probrams. How can I fix the problem?

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.
    Reboot normally and test.

Normally you have to get these from the App store.  Open the App Store application in your Applications folder. Have a look at the category Apple Apps.
    There is also this:

  • HT1338 how do i update my macbook pro from 10.5.8 to the latest software? also please let me know what do i have to do to save my files from being deleted when updating? thank you

how do i update my macbook pro from 10.5.8 to the latest software?

First you have to purchase Snow Leopard, 10.6, from the Apple on-line store for $20.  Install and on-line software update from the disk version to the last of the line, 10.6.8.
Then determine if you can go to Mountain Lion, http://www.apple.com/osx/specs and if you can go to the App Store and purchase for $20 the download of 10.8.3.
If you cannot go to ML, see if you can go to Lion, 10.7.5, do you have an Intel Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor at least 2 GB ram and 7 GB free hard drive space.  If so you can purchase a download code for Lion from 1-800-MY-APPLE for $20.
If you can use Mountain Lion, skip the Lion step and go directly to ML.

I have bought Lion and Mountain Lion came out yesterday. But I wanted to restore my Macbook Pro and put in my Install DVD that came with my Mac. I bought my Macbook Pro in late 2009. When I restored my mac, it gave me tons of updates and the last update ended on 10.5.8. I want to have Lion but I can't update to 10.6 because it says my Mac is already up to date. How can I update it to 10.6 ???

  • I updated my Macbook pro to mountain lion and now it takes a while to turn on

I don't like turning my laptop off cause I use it frequently, but after I updated to mountain lion, If I close my laptop and then open it, I movethe mouse and nothing happens, then I push the power button and it won't do anything and I push it again and it takes like 2 minutes for the screen to reappear and load back to where it was. This also happens when I leave the computer open and don't use it for a while, Why is it doing this?

I am looking for the updated wireless utility or updated firmware for my airport extreme.

  • How to rename user on Macbook pro using Mountain Lion

I renamed the name in "Users and Groups" under system preferences to my name (Bryan) , but somehow the user is still named after the previous owner (David). It won't let me rename it even after I type in the administrator password and click the unlock thing on the bottom left. See pictures.
"David" is still the user name, and it won't let me rename it. Where it says "David" I thought it should say Bryan?!

Basically, somehow when I login to "Bryan" it takes me to "David". It's REALLY annoying me. If I could rename "David" to Bryan, and move all my stuff in there I would be happy, but I can't rename it. "David" has all my programs for some reason, and "Bryan" has all my files.
As you can see, I'm logged into Bryan. However, I'm actually with all of "David"'s files. "David doesn't whos up in users and groups as you can see.

  • How to update a MacBook Pro to the latest copy of Snow Leapard

I was wondering how do you update a MacBook Pro to the latest Snow Leopard? I have the software version I want and I held down c while I restarted it and got to the installer but it told me I needed a backup to install it. Is this true because I don't have a backup and I'm not sure how to get one with out spending a lot of money to go to apple or get a time machine. Can some one tell me how to update?
    Thanks

I think you can probably just bypass that message, but if you don't have a backup, sooner is a better time to make one than later. Get an external hard drive at least as large as your internal drive (a FireWire 800 drive is best, but USB is considerably cheaper), and use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone of your internal drive before you upgrade the OS. Then if things should go haywire during the upgrade, you'll be able to start up from the clone and clone it back onto the internal drive.
Using your computer without a backup of all your data is like driving an uninsured motor vehicle: you should never even think about it.

  • IPhoto update to 9.4.1 after updating MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion

    Hello.
I updated my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion and iPhoto to 9.4.1, but the Mac App Store still shows a "1 update available" notification, but when I open the App Store, next to iPhoto it says "Installed". How do I get rid of the "1 update available" notification ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Antonio

Addendum to my post above (I'm past the window to edit my original post).  Here is a screen shot (cick image to enlarge/read) of the multiple iPhoto 9.4 updates installed yet the App Store still insists that my installed version needs updating.  I'm completely befuddled on this one.

  • I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the new software, and now my iMessage and my FaceTime are not connected with my computer. How do I get them to match so that I would be able to use my cellphone number?

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the new software, and now my iMessage and my FaceTime are not connected with my phone number like it is supposed to be. How do I get them to match so that I would be able to use my cellphone number on my notebook?

To reset any OS X program just go to the folder and trash the affected files.
    Open a new Finder Window
Click "Go" in the above status bar
Click and HOLD the "option/alt" key and you will see "Library" now show in the above list
Click Library while still holding the option/alt key and a new window will open with all of your system files
Go to the preference file (NOT Preference Panes)
    Locate a file named <com.apple.FaceTime.bag.plist>
    Locate another file named <com.apple.FaceTime.plist>
    Locate the file <com.apple.iMessage.bag.plist>
Drag the files to the trash
    Delete the trash
Close FaceTime and iMessage if not already closed
Relaunch FaceTime and iMessage from Applications folder
This should reset the program back to default. You will have to put your information back into the program but it should work.
    Good Luck.
