HT4550 Is it possible to sync Reading List using iTunes?

I don't have iCloud as I'm running Snow Leopard. My bookmarks are currently being synced via iTunes but I'm not sure if I can do the same with Reading List.

No. It uses iCloud to do it

I'm currently dealing with this issue myself, except that my rMBP has NO articles in the reading list.  It's a brand new rMBP too, purchased just this week, with the 2.6 Ghz Processor & 16GB of RAM.
Let's see what we can find.  I may just take it back to the Apple Store.

    Hello, flippytippi.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need a little more information regarding what exactly you are experiencing when attempting to sync photos to better assist you.  However, here is a troubleshooting article that I would recommend going through.

  • HT1202 Can I still sync music manually using itunes 11.0.1?

Can I still sync music manually using itunes 11.0.1? The copy and paste AND drag and drop methods don't seem to work any more. Why does Apple make itunes so hard to use?

Thanks, but no dice. When I check Maunal manage, I get the dialog about erasing the phone and syncing to this computer. The only thing I can think of is to make sure my home machine is also set to manual sync. Although, I was able to manual sync just fine until I upgraded itunes to 11.0.1

  • Is it possible to sync 'Read Later' on computer with iPhone?

I need help syncing my iPhone with the Read Later links I create on my computer. Is it possible? I should point out that my computer runs on Windows 7. I hope that's not an impediment...

I will reply to my own question with information I learned by calling Apple customer support. Perhaps this will be helpful to others.
I was told that I would need to have an Apple computer in order for the Reading List I created on my computer to sync with my iPhone.
Because of this, and several other deficiencies I've run up against, I have decided to send my iPhone back and return to Android.

  • How to Sync reading list with Windows

Have anyone actually gotten the reading list to sync with Windows (Vista)?  I have the Windows iCloud app installed but the reading list syncs randomly.  It's more rare that it actually syncs.

    Hello.
Currently, there is no way to sync your reading list between your devices. Since the reading list is just webpages without all of the ads and a more reader-like experience, it's just like a bookmark. But, you have to make all of those reading list items into bookmarks to sync between devices. The reading list is for on-device only.
Sorry for all of the trouble. (With 200 and all) :-(

  • How to sync reading lists from my Safari on Macbook with the iPhone Safari?

How can I sync my reading lists on the Safari on my Macbook Pro to the Safari on my iPhone?
Do I need to use iCloud?

    Howdy Anna,
Indeed, iCloud can keep your Bookmarks, Reading List, and currently open tabs available across devices.
Bookmarks, Reading List, and iCloud Tabs
iCloud keeps your bookmarks and Reading List up to date in Safari on all your devices. It also updates iCloud Tabs to show you all the webpages you have open in Safari on your Mac computers with OS X v10.8 or later and your iOS devices with iOS 6 or later.

  • Can you sync Reading List to iOS5 from OS 10.6 Mac?

I am running an iPhone 4S and the MacBook Pro with OS 10.6, which doesn't use iCloud. I have Safari 5.1.2 on the laptop. Shouldn't the Reading List sync anytime I connect the two and sync via iTunes? They don't, and it's annoying Thanks for the help!

    hi Samberl
thanks a lot for the fast reply.
I was dragging folders from main folders on the laptop-desktop  onto the external drive icon - to copy them across....
Your suggestion sounds very promising -  I didn't know about 'cloning'.
Yes the idea is to backup the laptop -    I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically   across to the new drive myself each day or two...
Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb  ?   =   under the HD icon on desktop is written  :
    " 499.76gb , 311.5 gb free  "
I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
When CCC site says it backs up  the hard drive - would this  mean all my files  [over 100 gb] that are mostly  in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon,  would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ]  ?
thanks again, hope you can clarify these things and then I will go for it.
It would be great and amazing if this 'lack of permission' message doesn't show up in the process of doing this ccc transfer - hopeful!
    Julie

  • Sync reading list

Unlike many others I like Reading List as a snappy place for 'to reads'.
However I am amazed to find it doesn't sync between devices like bookmarks, and it's not on mobile Safari at all.
Am I missing something... or is Apple missing something?

I hated reading list at first but today I was looking at some web page on my MBA at college and it wasn't something I would read from Instapaper on my iPad, as it was some guide to get something done on my iMac.
I even removed reading list from the bookmark bar.
So, I decided to give it a try expecting to get it sync as all bookmarks are synced between devices and computers but it didn't do it.
I don't think we are missing anything, I guess this is something that will be addressed or not.

  • Safari: sync Reading List but not Bookmarks

Is there a way to use iCloud to sync the Reading List in Safari but not the Bookmarks? I have a work computer and a home computer that I require completely different bookmarks on but would like to keep synced in all other areas.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, you cannot differentiate between those two features, it is both or nothing, but you could use another app like Pocket (http://getpocket.com) which is available for iOS, Mac and accesible via the browser for saving articles and sync them between devices. This shoul help you to keep the bookmarks separated and using another app for reading list.

  • Won't sync contact list in itunes to Address Book....

    iPhone 4, iOS 6, AT&T
    Mac Book Pro 2.26GHZ, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 2GB 1067MHz DDR3
    iTunes 10.7.21
Why won't iTunes update my address book?
    iTunes Summary>back up to computer> Info>Checked "Sync Contacts> All Contacts>Sync
I would expect entries that I made on my phone to show up on my laptop Address Book.... but not happening....
    It use too.....

I have just resolved this problem with my Ipod not syncing and freezing in Itunes, I realised that I had deleted some of the source files that were loaded into Itunes from my hard drive while I was dumping old files, the reuslt was when Itunes was looking for them to load during syncing it just froze stopping it from syncing when it did not find them and I had to switch my PC off to clear it:- this is what I did:- after rebooting my computer I Switched on Itunes and switched off the auto Syncing option, connected my Ipod (120gb classic), then when my Ipod showed up in Itunes I deleted all of the songs and films I had referenced in libraries (more then 2500 files),then reloaded from files that I knew I had on my hard drive "result" it worked, I dont really understand fully how Itunes works but I suspect that you must keep the source file that you have put in Itunes because it does not copy the whole file it just creates a link then if you delete the file Itunes can not find it and it freezes, locking Itunes and your ipod, Hope this helps

  • Is it possible to sort songs after using iTunes Match?

When I used iTunes to sync my songs previously, everything's fine because I can do all in iTunes then press sync.
But with the use of iTunes Match, everything seems automatically done through the "cloud".
I can't even rearrange the order of my songs, like sorted by artists or names of the songs.
It's pretty a mess when viewing my playlist, the songs are disordered.
Is it the fact that we can't sort songs?
    Thanks.

I didn't say "re-create" I said "restore from a backup." Restoring from a backup will place all the files just as they were right back where they need to be. This includes the .itl, .itdb ad .xml files iTunes needs to recognize that the files on the internal HDD are the same as the files in the cloud.
You do have a backup, don't you? If you don't then I strongly recommend you start backing up immediately.
If all else fails you can email iTunes Store support and ask them to reset your iTunes Match DB on the server. This will require your iTunes to go through the entire scan, match and upload process as if it were the first time.

  • Microsolft 2003 calendar not syncing with iphone (using itunes)

Basics: I have Win XP Pro, I use Microsoft 2003, I have an iphone 3G, and I sync my contacts, calendar, and notes using itunes 9.0.3. I don't use Outlook mail and don't sync using MS Exchange -- I just connect my iphone to the computer using a usb and sync with itunes.
Up until a week or two ago, I had no problems syncing. Now, while contacts and notes syncs fine, calendar does not sync at all (in either direction), even though itunes says it's "syncing calendar". I know this is not new (I see many posts about this), and I have scoured the discussion pages for advice already and tried everything I could. I looked at the following apple troubleshooting page and tried everything there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1692. Specifically, this is what I have already done and nothing has worked:
    * I uninstalled the newest version of itunes (as well as quick time, bonjour, and the other software components that apple recommended I uninstall) and reinstalled 9.0.3
    * I uninstalled my Outlook 2003 and reinstalled
    * From itunes preferences, under devices, I "reset sync history" (and I have continued to do this before syncing after I try something new)
    * From itunes help, I ran "diagnostics" for "iphone sync tests" and no problems were noted. I have done this several times.
    * From within Outlook help, I ran "detect and repair" and no problems were noted
    * From within Outlook tools and advanced options, I clicked the "COM add-ins" button and removed 3rd party software
HOWEVER...the apple troubleshooting page referenced above suggested syncing content in a new user window, and that DID work! Moreover, when I copied my original Outlook.pst file to the new user account, the trouble starts again and no calendar syncing. And to continue the test, when I remove the original Outlook.pst and put back the new Outlook.pst file in the new user window, it works again. And for the final test, when I copy the new user Outlook.pst file to my main/real user account, the sync works perfectly. All this indicates the original Outlook.pst file is corrupted.
HOWEVER, Apple offers NO advice as to what to do next. The following is quoted from their troubleshooting page:
"Once you are logged into the new user account, create a few test contacts and/or calendar events in your compatible application of choice and attempt to sync that data to your iPhone or iPod touch. Does this newly created data sync properly? If so, you likely have an issue with your content in the original user which you will need to isolate."
Sooooo...what to do now? How do I "isolate" the problem any further?
Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

After fiddling a little more, the following fixed my corrupted outlook.pst file:
    1) I made a backup
    2) In outlook under file, I exported the calendar to excel
    3) In outlook under file, I imported the calendar back to outlook
    And voila, it worked.
