When home sharing is turned on on multiple devices, should the Itunes library automatically appear to listen to songs through another device? Example Library of songs is on MacBook- can I listen through Iphone?

No, I've already read the support online. I have Home Sharing turned on but nothing happens, how do I access the Itunes library from another device? Should it automatically download or is there another step?

But I can't figure out how to get my music into my son's library on his lap top. We've turned on Home Sharing in both File and Preferences. But it says we're not connected. I'm having a similar problem. Your Apple ID is supposed to be the same for home sharing to work.
I've done this before but it was quite a while ago. I'm trying to import my library from my desktop to my laptop, they have the same Apple ID, they are both authorized on my account, home sharing is turned on and checked in the library menu (on both computers), and the Bonjur service is enabled, however the home sharing icon just isn't there. There is no way for me to access the library of the other computer to import the files. Help would be much appreciated.

How does display sharing work? (i.e. a MBA using a 27" iMac as ext display)

I have a 27" iMac, and am considering a MacBook Air: one consideration in choosing the MBA (which has a smaller screen that I would choose) is that if i can use the iMac at home as ext displaym then I can live when travelling with the smaller MBA display (vs. a 15" MBP).
However, when I hook the MBA to the iMac, how do I toggle the iMac display between iMAc and the MBA?
Also, does hooking them up via MiniDP mean that the iMac keyboard and mouse will control the MBA? Or will I need to sit at my desk with two of each?

You can keep your MacBook Air open and use the iMac as display #2. You will use the MacBook Air's keyboard and trackpad (or mouse) to control the machine.
You can keep the MacBook Air plugged in and closed, connect an external keyboard and external mouse/trackpad and run the MacBook Air in "closed clamshell" mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3131?viewlocale=en_US
The hardest part is finding a mini display port to mini display port cable. In theory, you may be able to use the iMac's video and audio with a MacBook Air. No guarantees on that. You will need the latest spec on the cable and just finding a cable may be a challenge.

I'm still trying to figure out this family sharing thing, but I THINK the other person will still be logged in with their own apple id, so they would have access to their own iTunes match, and not yours. All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.

Does Home Sharing not work through a network extender?

Home sharing seems to cut out whenever I get into range of my network extender (Airport Express).
Here's my setup, it's pretty standard: Cable modem wired to Airport Extreme router, which is connected wirelessly to the MBP with my iTunes hard drive. All of this is in my living room.
I use the Airport Express to extend my network into the bedrooms.
Whenever I'm home sharing from my iTunes library on my iPhone, if I walk to my bedroom, it cuts out. It usually crashes the iPod app. If it doesn't completely crash it, I can get it to restart buffering if I walk back to the living room.

However, I'm not so sure. Starting the share in the bedroom works as you suggest (since 4.3.2 - didn't under 4.3.1) - but as soon as you go back to the living room and the iPhone connects to a different base station the music stops playing. Note also that the shared library itself ceases to work. So for example you can't be in one room (on the extender) and add the shared library (without actually playing anything yet) then move to another room (on the base station) and play a track from the shared library. It just plays dead and you have to explicitly reload the shared library to get anything to play.
So is it maybe a bug also with iTunes that it can't keep up with a shared library client moving from one wifi station to another?
