HT4557 my computers won't show up in home sharing on Apple TV

I connected AppleTV to my television, everything works but can't get the home sharing to show my laptop, iPad or iPhone. I have gone thru all of the setttings on each to work with Home Share, made sure the user name and password are correct on all....but to no avail. Have spent hours and have not solved the problem. Is there a setting in iTunes that I am overlooking. My laptop is a Dell Vostro with WIndows 7, updated to 11.0 iTunes.

Make sure your PC and iOS device(s) are running under the same network.
All devices must have home sharing enabled and all should be signed-in using the same apple id and password.
After that is confirmed, using the music app and under the "more" option, you should find the "Shared" link.
Then choose your music library

  • Computer not showing up in Home Sharing on Apple Tv

  • Why do some purchased movies fail to show up in Home Sharing via Apple TV?

Most of my purchased movies show up just fine when I try to access them using my Apple TV2, but some simply do not appear in the list of movies available via Home Sharing.  Does any one know why some movies appear and others don't?

Read the details on availability at:

    Focus on the specifics.

  • I SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, AND i CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HELP

I just bought my apple tv yesterday and SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, I CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. WHAT'S WRONG? WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

Just in case anyone else has this problem, here is what Apple replied to me: "Dear Carol, Greetings from Apple iTunes Customer Support. I am Sayantan and I am glad to assist you today. I understand you are unable to share audio books using home sharing. I know how upsetting it can be. I will help you with this. Unfortunately, you cannot share iTunes Store Audio Books, Audible spoken word content, or QuickTime sound files. In accordance with iTunes Store policy, you may share the music in your library and playlists with up to five other computers, provided the following conditions are met: 1. Your computer is using Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. 2. The other computers are on the same local area network as your computer, in the same subnet. To share a song in a password-protected shared library or playlist, you will need to enter a password. To share a song that was purchased using an iTunes Store account that is not authorized on the computer you are using, you will need to enter the Apple ID and password with which the song was purchased. You can share MP3, AIFF, WAV, AAC, and radio station links, but you cannot share iTunes Store Audio Books, Audible spoken word content, or QuickTime sound files. To prevent other computers on your network from seeing or listening to songs in your library or playlists, turn off music sharing. More detailed instructions about sharing music may be found in the Help menu. In iTunes, select iTunes Help from the Help menu. Click "Contents," type "sharing" (without quotes) in the search box, and press Enter. To read more about one of the topics that appears, double-click it. Carol, thank you for being a valued customer, your satisfaction is of the utmost importance. If you have further queries please write back to me. I will be happy to help you. Have a great day! Sincerely, Sayantan

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

  • Limewire playlists showing up in home sharing

I have a weird problem. I have limewire playlists showing up in my Itunes 9 shared area. No one in the household has ever installed limewire on the pcs, and nothing shady is done on any of them. If I open the playlists they are full of music none of us would ever listen to, and I'm able to play music from it.
I'm in a rural area and the nearest house is 1/2 a mile away. I disabled wireless on the router anyway, and the playlists still remain afterwards (and remain playable). Unchecking the "Look for shared playlists" in itunes makes the playlists go away but the problem still remains... is someone somehow leeching off my internet connection or is itunes just doing something funny? I've googled "itunes limewire playlists" and it does seem to be happening to other people.

  • Purchased TV shows not showing up during home sharing

    Hello All,
I love doing home sharing on my iPad and my Apple TV.  However I am having some problems with home sharing of TV shows on my iPad.  Let me give you an example.  I purchased Criminal Minds season 7.  When I do home sharing on my Apple TV it shows up and plays just fine, but will not on my iPad.  All of the other seasons are there but not season 7.  How do I fix this?
    Thank You,
    Christina

Files purchased from the iTunes store don't automatically download a second time. Files that were purchased on the old computer won't download again unless you contact the iTunes store and ask them to re-authorize them.
If you can still access the hard drive on the old computer, you should try to copy them over to the new computer via your network or an external hard drive. If you are now using the new computer to sync with your ATV, only files that are present on that computer will sync. If the files aren't there, they won't sync. Files don't sync from the iTunes store, they sync from the iTunes library on your computer.

  • No other devices showing up under Home Sharing

    Hello,
I have home sharing activated on both my computers and I am logged in with the same username.  However, once I turn on homesharing on both computers nothing happens.  There are no libraries showing up for me to sync between the computers.  I have used homesharing before on my laptop, but my desktop is brand new and has an empty library.  The music on my laptop all was synced using home sharing when I had a different desktop computer.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you checked your firewall or security software isn't blocking iTunes.

  • Apple TV Won't Access Photos in Home Sharing -- Music, Internet OK

I just tried to update the iPhoto pictures I use for my Apple TV screen saver.  No luck.  The ATV tells me to turn my Home Sharing On even though it is already On.
I like having a screen saver of my photos from iPhoto.  From past experience I:
    * have an album in iPhoto with the pictures I want on the screensaver (I call it "Apple TV" and it has 119 photos)
    * I tell iPhoto to use that album
    * I turn home sharing on
    * On the Apple TV I choose the library that has my name under computers on the "Choose Photos" screen of "screen saver"
    * and to update with new photos (I just went from 118 photos to 119) I have to "trick" the ATV by choosing one of the stock collections -- say the national Geographic -- and once I have lions and tigers dancing across my screen I go back and tell it to get my photos.
I just did that and when I try to access my photos I get the message:
On my computer in iTunes home sharing is on and when I click on the "Choose Photos To Share With Apple TV" I get:
In iPhoto that "Apple TV" album exists and has the 119 pictures.
The ATV is working as it picks up my music library, shows the album artwork, and lets me play my music, Internet Radio, Netfilx, YouTube, ...  The network connection is the full five boxes strong.
I've rebooted the ATV and my computer ... no luck.
My ATV is running 6.1.1 (6698.99.19)
    My OS X is 10.9.3
    iTunes is 11.2.2 (3)
    iPhoto 9.5.1 (902.17)
I just upgraded my OS and have had a few hiccups and wonder if this is one of those.
    So what am I missing?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    UPDATE
I went in to iPhoto and created a new album -- called "TV Screen Saver" and copied the photos from the old album that would not load.
Told iTunes to use that album for home sharing.
Told Apple TV to use that album for the screen saver.
    Et Voila!
Must have been something in the various updated softwares that disn't like something from before.
    Who knows.

  • Turn on home sharing won't work to watch home movies on Apple TV

I have Apple TV 3rd generation.  I transferred home movies from my MAC to my Apple TV.  I have gone to Apple TV and then Computers and clicked it and there are my home movies.  Many times however a message appears to "Turn on my Home Sharing".  So I go to my computer and File and first have to turn off and then turn on and put in password and Done.  Usually this works but I keep getting the same message and cannot see the home movies.  Unplugged Apple TV, unplugged modem and router.  Still not working.  Any suggestions?  thanks
