HT4561 Update from OS X 10.6 - OS X 10.6.8 always fails. Any ideas?

I am using a MacBook Pro purchase 2010 which is still running the original OS X 10.6.
Now needing to update to OS X 10.6.8.
Downloaded 'Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo' but halts with 'The installation failed' message.
Any ideas?

Although repairing permissions is usually not necessary, sometimes it can fix issues such as you're experiencing. To do that, run Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility), select your boot volume in the list on the left, then click the Repair Disk Permissions button. Note - this can take a while, so you might want to disable (set to never) sleeping while it's being done.
