HT4576 I want to set up appointment times for an overseas trip before I go, and see those local times in the places I visit, but also be able to set new appointments while I am traveling, in the local times.  Can I do this with Time Zone Support?  If not,

I want to set up appointment times for an overseas trip on my iPhone 4S before I go, and have them appear as I put them in (for the local time) when visiting other countries.  I also want to be able to adjust times and set up new appointments when I am overseas for the local time.  Can I do this using the Time Zone Support or any other way?
Basically I want to do what I can do with a piece of paper - write down the time for when I will be there, and have it viewable when I am there, but also be able to put down new times while there.

Hi.
Regarding your question about reverting back- yes, I think you can. If you make a backup of your current configuration in Server Admin (by dragging the configuration file to your desktop- cool, no?) then you can load that one back in should your configuration not work. If you have the manual from Apple it should describe this process.
Network speed post-op? I don't think you will need to worry. Even using home directories stored on our OS X Server there is no network slowdown (that you can notice or that impacts the wider LAN in any case). It shouldn't slow down access to files, applications (which still come from the local drive anyway) or individual internet connections (even with filtering).
In our experience some of these things have actually got faster- but a lot of that is user perception. Same goes for people who will know you have configured the server and that they are now accessing files through your network from the server, and who really think it is slower. File coming from your local hard drive will always be quicker- but network access isn't that bad that it will make you barf and run in the opposite direction.
Something to look at: connection speed between clients and switching technology in your office. In other words, what kinds of switches are you using, what line speed have you got (100MB/s?) and is the connection from your server to the switch gigabit? Make sure it is.
Enjoy

  • Can I do this with Time Capsule...?

I am planning to upgrade to a new MBP and also get Time Capsule to use for wi-fi as well as back-up. I know I can access its files remotely via MobileMe. But can I set up a password-protected "public" folder so selected other people can access files inside that folder (but not the entire drive)?

Sorry, but no. You cannot set permissions on individual folders or files; just on the whole disk ... even if your create multiple partitions/volumes on the disk.

  • In Safari I had an icon on the toolbar "open in dashboard" so a selected part of a webpage would open in my macbook-dashboard. How can I do this with Firefox?

The "open in dashboard" button in Safari allows me to make my own widget for the macbook dashboard. The widgets I am using are parts of webpages that would update regularly. Is there an equivalent in Firefox?

Another shortcut for maximizing the currently active window is to press Alt+Spacebar followed by x for maximize.
A past thread on this problem: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/980358 opens off monitor screen].
Do you have multiple monitors by any chance? If so, can you set the monitor where you want Firefox to "primary"?
If this problem persists -- in other words, if Firefox stops saving the new position of its window(s) correctly between sessions -- the settings file that stores the last window position may be corrupted. You could try removing that file and let Firefox use its default sizing and positioning. Note: this also will default some toolbar customizations.
    Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button to open a new window showing your currently active settings files.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Is the window visible?

  • Can I do this with Time Machine?

    Hey guys,
every once in a while i use an old external hard drive, dump my music, pictures, and presentations on it, completely wipe the computer and restore it back to leopard. Now, i bought a new hard drive, and plan to FINALLY use time machine. Can i get time machine to backup my stuff, wipe my harddrive, then do this for me?
I usually do it cuz it speeds up my computer by the way....
    thanks for the help

    Yeah, you could.
However, it would be a lot faster to use SuperDuper! to clone your drive to an external source, and then wipe your hard drive, install OS X, and then use migration assistant to copy back what it wanted.

I keep trying but i cant update the apps..

First reboot the iPad by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the phone by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Can i go back with time machine but without the applications(to keep it the same)?

i want to make my mac "younger" but i've got applications that i want to keep and i have them not so long ago...

    Clone your system them.
Keep your OS and apps on separate hard drives.
Install the OS if you must for now on another hard drive.
    Use Setup Assistant when done.

    You can delete it.

  • I have two macs at my house, and multiple iPhones. I want to keep the same apple id as everyone else, but i want to put my own music only on my iPhone. I want to do this with my laptop which is not the family's main iTune's computer.

I have two macs at my house, and multiple iPhones. I want to keep the same apple id as everyone else, but i want to put my own music only on my iPhone. I want to do this with my laptop which is not the family's main iTune's computer.

If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud on each device, yes. However, you can use the same Apple ID for iTunes content on each device, but different Apple ID's for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc., on each device. That way, you can have whatever iTunes content you want on each phone, but keep all of the other data separate. You can create another Apple ID here:
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId?loca lang=en_US
Must be a verified email address.

Also, I want to sort my music in the way I used to with iTunes. How can I do this with just these two devices, i.e. NO Computer? Can the iCloud help? Why can't I download iTunes (i.e. my library as I saw it on the computer) to these devices? Thanks to anyone who can help me here.

You can change the email address of one's appleID...
I'd recommend changing moms email to yours to get a good backup on the Mac
Then switch mom's back to hers
Then change your account to the same email you used.
I've done something similar when I needed to update my Apple account (one ID changing email addresses and phone)

  • I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

    The best solution:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up.

You need a network connection and a product such as ScreenRecycler. All such products require a bootable OS on the iMac.

I cannot answer regarding compatibility, but there is no download available for PSE6 if you would need one for this.  You might be able to copy the installation files from a disk to some other removable media that the machine accepts.  Upgrading to PSE7 would not be possible mainly because Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.

I accidentally didn't save a document on my desktop--a report.  Can I go back with time machine and recover my desktop and save the file?

If you saved it at least once, then time machine should have a copy of the document at the state you last saved it.  I'm guessing tha's not the case however or the copy of the file would still be on your Desktop.
If you never saved it a single time, yet closed the window and dismissed the warnings about an unsaved document, then you are out of luck as far as I know.

  • How do you set up multiple users? Netscape use to let me choose which profile to start. Can I do this with Firefox and can I have email linked to each individual user/login? How?

Netscape use to let me choose and create new profiles. after clicking on the icon for netscape i was prompted for which user profile i wanted. can i do this with firefox? also, each user profile was linked with its respective email account. can i do this through firefox as well? I need help. i have tried setting up firefox before and since i couldn't accomplish this i had given up but netscape is so old and most sites cause it to crash, i need a solution. i have 2 main profiles and 2 different email addresses. any advice or help, even not firefox related would be great

Firefox doesn't have the same type of interface for the Profile Manager that Netscape did. You might want to look at SeaMonkey ''(which uses the same Mozilla Gecko code as Firefox has)''.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
