HT4619 transfer pictures between macs

got a new mac and want to transfer pics easyest way

'Best"? in what way?
Do you want the fastest? easiest? cheapest?
Is this a one-time thing? or something you expect to do frequently/repeatedly?
How much data are we talking about? kilobytes? megabytes? gigabytes?
In all honesty the easiest way is via a USB drive - stick it in the iBook, copy the files to it, remove and insert in the iMac. Done.
Maybe easier than that is to boot the iBook in Target Disk Mode and attach it to the iMac via a FireWire cable (assuming your iMac has FireWire ports - you don't way which model you have). In this way the iBook will just mount on the iMac's desktop and you can copy the files at will.
Stepping up the complexity chain a little you could enable file sharing on the iBook and mount its disk over the network on the iMac (or vice versa). This is probably the slowest option but that might not matter if you only have a small amount of data to transfer.
There are other ways, too.

  • Slow transfer speeds between Mac Pro and Shared Drive on Windows Domain

    Hi Guys,
Getting really slow transfer speeds when I try and transfer a file from a Mac Pro to a shared network drive on one of our Windows 2003 Servers.
The Mac Pro is logged on to windows domain. This data is transferring via our hard network, not via wireless. Not having any other transfer speed issues on any other PC's.
For example an 8mb file took around 45 mins.
Hope you can help. Many Thanks.

I saw this at a site where they were using DFS with Server 2003. When the few Mac's they had connected to the actual server and uploaded the file it was okay. But when it was sending the file via the \\DFS_node\share_name the Mac took heaps longer for the same file. Watching the Activity Monitor > Network monitor you could see gaps with the data transfer, as if there was some pausing between packets. A pcap showed that there was constant DNS requests coming from the Mac, even after the connection to the share was made. The same wasn't happening when the connection via SMB was directly to the actual file server. As there was only a few Mac on site they left it with the direct connection but were getting an MS specialist in to look at it. Never heard what happened with that one but you may want to try monitoring the packet transfer to see if the data movement is contstant or breaking. I'd also recommend getting Wireshark to monitor the transfer. You can compare upload to download and maybe even the transfer from the Mac to an MS workgroup share.

  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds Between Macs.

    Hello Can anyone please help?
When I transfer data between my MacBook and iMac it is taking ages and never used to be this slow a couple of months ago.
A 1 GB file is taking 2 hours. I am using an Airport Extreme 802.11n router on 5GHZ Wide Channel and when I check my connection using Network Utility it says 270 MBit/s.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Shaun

I am having a very similar issue. I am copying iTunes music to a USB flash drive formatted to FAT32.  It is very slow - not as slow as you have indicated, but still very slow. Someone mentioned it could be Spotlight indexing the USB drive. I am going to turn indexing off and try again - although it is taking a long time just to stop the current copy that I had in progress.

I previously ordered a 2010 macbook pro and had both microsoft office and aperture pre-installed.  I now have a new macbook air and am trying to transfer the two programs over.  I do not have the original packaging since they came pre-installed so I am wondering how I can install them on the new mac without the serial number?

    Hey kdoy071,
Thanks for the question. Moving your information with Migration Assistant should do the trick:

If you have OS X Mavericks, see this article:

Note that if your previous software is not compatible with the new system or OS, it may not function properly.

  • Transfer iPhotos between Macs computers

I would like to transfer my iPhoto photos from my Mac to my moms without losing the places or faces that I've already assigned.  How can I do that?

    Just the Photos?
You'll need to use link the machines together and use  iPhoto Library Manager to move the Pics/Albums/Events plus all metadata. No other method will get the Faces.

  • Android Samsung Epic how to transfer file between Mac and phone

    I have an
Samsung Epic touch 4g, and my daughter Samsung Galaxy S2 but even after downloading Android's File transfer app my Imac is not recognizing it?  I know Samsung and Mac are rivals for for the Love of God what can we do?

There is no official mac-to-Android support. See here

    and here
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39231/fonesync-for-android---htc
Note that Novamedia, a good company from Germany, does not maintain its support for Android devices, which required iSync, the Apple utility included with the system until Snow Leopard. But it works with Lion and Mountain Lion via its plugins.
If you discover other solutions while browsing the net, please tell us, am also considering to purchase and Android phone, just for the sake of testing something new, even if iPhone rules.

  • How do I transfer files between mac using Thunderbolt cable?

I don't want to migrate the whole content from one mac to another.  I don't want the hassle of setting on one mac as a target disk.  I just want to be able to transfer the occasional file from my iMac to my MacBook Pro using the Thunderbolt cable.
I heard that Thuderbolt was superfast so I shelled out crazy money to buy a 2 meter piece of cable in the hope of making my life more productive. But it seems to be far from super straightforward!
Both Macs have Thunderbolt ports and are running Mavericks so it should not be too complicated.  What am I missing?
I read a blog that you can connect the two Macs through the Network Preferences.  Thunderbolt Bridge appears on both Macs - some times both status lights are red, sometimes one is yellow and one is red, sometimes both are yellow.  Do both lights have to be at least yellow before data can be transferred?  Or should they glow green?
Do I need to change the settings?

Be sure Ethernet is listed first in System Prefs > Network.
If it isn't, click the "gear" icon and select Set Service Order.

  • Can't Transfer Files between Macs

I originally thought the problem was with my new Airport Extreme N Gigabit router, but direct connecting both a PowerMac G5 and a Macbook Pro via cat5e ethernet, my transfer speeds over both FTP and AFP start out fast ( around 30 - 40 mb/s ), then tail off to nothing. As it's doing this, I can watch in the System Preferences as the Ethernet connection goes from green to red, sometimes hopping back and forth. Sometimes the transfer will resume only to stall again or stop completely.
I'm not having this problem when direct connecting using IP over Firewire 800. I've tried using the Finder, Transmit, and Flow for transfers, all yield the same results.
I'm running the latest everything on both machines and on the base station.
    Any ideas?
    Thansk

Sounds like it's formatted for Windows.  If that's the case it's read-only without 3rd party tools.
Use disk utility and format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for best use with the Mac.

  • Transfer Pictures from Mac Mini to Macbook?

I need to retrieve some photos from my Mac Mini for use in my Macbook.
I have Mac Mini but no monitor for it.
Macbook is hooked up to wireless DSL.
How can I do this with no monitor to see the info on the Mac MIni?
    Thanks!

If you have a firewire cable, you could connect the two Macs together and start the Mini up in Firewire Target Disk Mode. Then the Mini's hard drive would appear on the MacBook's desktop as a hard drive.

If you want to transfer photos and videos from the Mac to the iPhone (but not in the other direction) you can use iTunes and sync via wi-fi: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
If you want to wirelessly tranfer videos in the other direction you may want to look into a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com Note that I have not used that app so be sure to investigate others as well.
