  • Why does my Ipad screen keep freezing even after rebooting

My ipad screen keeps freezing and remains stuck. So in the last hour this has happened 3 times after hard "reboots". Can someone explain whats going on? Uwas not downloading anything ..only looking at Facebook.

    Hello, Nina1711.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try closing all open applications in multitasking and power cycling the device.  Test the responsiveness of the iPad after processing these steps.  If the issue persists, check to make sure you have space available on the iPad in Settings/General/About.  If there is no space available you may want to remove unwanted Apps or media as this can cause the unit to become unresponsive.  If these steps have been processed with the issue persisting, you will need to restore the device.  Make sure to backup the device prior to restoring.

  • 1st generation ipod touch keeps freezing

My ipod won't unlock and when it does it freezes on the home screen until the battery dies. I tried restoring it and it didn't fix anything. HELP PLEASE! Has this happened to anyone else?

If a restore did not help, I'm afraid you have a hardware issue there.

  • HT4623 Can you update the 1st generation IPad to IOS 6?

Can I update my 1st generation IPad to IOS 6?

Sorry, no. iOS 5.1.1 is the highest possible for that model.

  • HT4623 Now that iOS is consistently being updated.  Will the 1st Generation IPad be stuck with IOS 5?  Eventually my IPad will be good for nothing as Apps start requiring the updated software.

Now that iOS is consistently being updated.  Will the 1st Generation IPad be stuck with IOS 5?  Eventually my IPad will be good for nothing as Apps start requiring the updated software.

The iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1. This is unlikely to change.
The apps you have will continue to work and there are still many apps which run on iOS 5 (or even earlier iOS levels).

  • HT4623 Why can't my 1st generation iPad update to iOS 6?  Memory is not an issue.

Why can't my 1st generation iPad update to iOS 6 when memory is not an issue?

The first gen iPad has a slower processor (A4) than the iPad 2 (dual-core A5) and iPad 3 (dual-core A5X) and 4 (A6X), and it also has less memory - 256 meg, compared to the iPad 2's 512 meg and the iPad 3 and 4's 1024 meg. My first gen iPad got noticeably slower with iOS 5 than it was with iOS 4, so I doubt that it could cope with iOS 6.

  • HT4623 I have a 1st generation iPad &recently updated to iOS 5.1, but I can't find my AppStore app icon! Help!

I have a 1st generation iPad and recently updated to iOS 5. However, I can't find my AppStore app icon now. Like it's disappeared!
How do I get the icon back?

Do your have Restrictions turned on?  Settings>General.
If that's not it, scroll to the left until you get to the search page.  enter "App Store", does this find the app?  If so, then the icon is lost on some later page or is in some folder.

  • HT4623 Can my 1st generation iPad be updated to ios7?  It says it is up to date with 5.1.1

I can't get my 1st generation iPad to update past 5.1.1. I can't get a lot of pos because of this. Can I get it to update to ios7?

5.1.1 is as far as it can go.

  • HT5457 How do I update my 1st generation IPAD to IOS 5.1 and I do not have a software update feature on it.

I have a 1st generation IPAD and it is currently running IOS 4.3.  I would like to update it to IOS 5.1 but am having difficulty doing it.  I have followed the update software instructions in ITUNES but my IPAD will not display the update software feature under General in Setttings.  What do I need to do?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • IPad 4 keeps freezing

My IPad 4 keeps freezing when playing games.  I have no problem playing these games before.  I erased all and reconfigured as new device - same problem .  I even upgraded to iOS 7.1.2 didn't solve.  I can run YouTube and Safari w/o a problem.  It would freeze up when playing a single game.

Try to reset your device. The reset can help cure some odd issues that can crop up.
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Ipad 2 keeps freezing - hardware problem?

I have an iPad 2  (Model MC979LL/A) running IOS Version 7.11 (11D201) and the screen keeps freezing.
I have pretty much exhausted all the good advice regarding hard resets with the two buttons, resetting from settings, and I have used iTunes to do multiple restores both automatically and manually (with & without Recovery Mode) from the .ipsw download  for Version 7.11. No matter what I do, the screen will freeze within 2 minutes, if not sooner.
Is there a likely hardware issue that might be the cause of all this? The battery seems to keep it's charge. Because it freezes I haven't been able to really use it, so the battery is in the 98% to 100% range. When it freezes, the screen doesn't go black. It just freezes wherever it is, and buttons are unresponsive.
Is it possible that the Versions 7 and above have  put a strain on some component that now causes a freeze up, or what component would be likely to cause something like this over time?  Any techs out there that might have a likely guess?
I don't think it's a software issue, but I could be wrong. Nothing on the iPad is important, and it was given to me by someone that was having the same problems, so I'm not adverse to taking it apart. Maybe I'll get lucky.  If I "brick it", no loss.
    Thanks
    Gary

Since it appeared to be a hardware issue, I figured I would take a chance and open the iPad up.
Upon opening, I saw two similar connectors, one for the battery and one for the lcd screen.
I disconnected them, cleaned them, and reseated them, figuring it might make a difference. But it didn't.
After putting everything back together, the ipad still froze exactly like before after 2 minutes. At least
    I didn't make it worse!
So I started to think that this screen freezing problem seems to have gotten worse since the seasonal
change in weather has gotten progressively warmer here in Pennsylvania  from February to June, and that
it would be interesting to put the iPad in the freezer for 15 minutes and see if cooling the iPad improves it's
    performance.
It did! After 15 minutes in my freezer, the iPad was able to respond properly for 26 minutes before the screen "froze".
Is this because there is a component that is heating up inside, and cooling the iPad slows down that process,
    OR
is the touchscreen more capable of "distinguishing" my warm fingers when the iPad is generally cooler?
    All thoughts welcome.

  • My father gave me his 1st generation ipad.  He restored settings and now I can't get itunes back on it.  HELP!!!!

My Father gave me his 1st generation ipad.  He reset all setting back to factory and now I can't load itunes.  I have plugged it into two different computers and I can't get it to work.  HELP!!

You can't delete iTunes. The preinstalled apps cannot be deleted or installed again. It's there somewhere.
Swipe from screen to screen to look for it.
Check Settings>General>Restrictions and make sure that you didn't disable it.
You can also reset the home screen layout and the icon will reappear - but the home screen will return to the way that it looked when you first activated your iPad.
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.
