HT4623 Can a 3G iphone be upgraded to iOS 5?
Is it possible to do this or is the iphone too old? Just have had my share of "freezes" and hesitations and looking for a silver bullet.

My eom lightning charger says its unsupported and acts like a knock off and apps appear to be running in background draining battery but I can't see them. Upgraded to iOS 7 phone only lasts 1/2 day. Notifications are all off.

Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

I have a Iphone 4, upgraded to ios 5 with itunes 10.5 Since doing upgarde to both Itunes and Iphone I am not able to add individual songs from my itunes library to my Iphone. I get a grey listing of the song and the sync symbo but it is not moving. Nothing appears on my phone screen. So not able to add music to my phone and its driving me nuts.....
iOS 7 requires iTunes 11.1.

Upgraded to Yosemite- iCloud Drive in Finder works, no documents in iCloud web, not documents in iPad or iPhone- both upgraded to IOS 8
Well I just fixed this, by sheer luck.
I did a restart of my MacBook Pro, and after it restarted iCloud was visible and accessible in Finder.
It seems all that it needs is a system restart. -

You wouldn't have messed anything up. Neither the iPAa nor itunes would have offered 6 as an available update or let you update to it.

I was happily using my iPhone 3GS v4.1 till my son upgraded to IOS 6.1. Now it shows "could not activate iPhone". Please help
Was the phone hacked or jailbroken to use it with a different carrier than the one it was locked to? If it was then it is again locked to that carrier, and there is nothing you can do about it that can be discussed in an Apple hosted forum.

ITunes can't see iPhone after upgrade, phone became inactivated.
The phone will no longer connect after upgrading software through iTunes.
It's back to the "emergency call" screen, and "Activate your iPhone. Connect to iTunes" screen.
When I try to connect, iTunes hangs.
(iPhoto opens and downloads pictures!)
Help! Any ideas?Marc...I think you are confused by what I am trying to say. For your iPhone to be seen by your computer/iTunes you must have a good install. I suspect that you have a bad install of iTunes "On Your COMPUTER" To fix this (and it has worked for many other users) You need to delete/uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support and Quick Time from "your COMPUTER".
Download a new copy of iTunes from the apple web site and reinstall. I am only trying to assist you, this is not a windows versus mac thing...this is a user help user forum, I do not (and you can check my posts) play the this is better then that game.
I want to help you fix your problem which I just did with another user have a similiar problem to yours, so that you can enjoy your iPhone like the others that assist in these forums.

neither using wifi nor itunes. it cant be activated after the language selection and region selection. it appear to have text "your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. try reconnecting your iphone to itunes to activate it, or try again in a few minutes." "if problem persists, contact apple support at apple.com/support." what else i can do?whats wrong with the activation server?? please, urgent. need to turn on my phone line immediately !Apple stopped signing iOS 6. Though speaking now, I don't know if they stopped signing every iPhone..

The instruction from ATT about unlocking iPhone said I just need to restore my iPhone using iTunes, then it is unlocked. But I don't want to upgrade to iOS 6. Is it possible?
This is what I would try first, if it works great (if not you will have to Restore to get the Unlock). Tap Settings App > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. When this is done you will be at the same iOS as when you started. Before doing this back up your iPhone to iCloud and Sync with iTunes, so your are backed up safely.
