HT4623 Can I still update my iPhone 3GS wirelessly?

How do I update my iPhone 3GS wirelessly. There's no "software update" in settings

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • HT4623 how do i update my iphone 3gs as it keeps saying that 4.2.1 is the right update which its not

    how do i update my iphone 3gs as its got 4.2.1 and its saying that it is the right updatee but its not

    To expand on the 1/2-answer that Diesel gave;
    The first thing you should look into is which version of iTunes you have.  If you're not running iTunes 10, then you're not going to be able to update your phone past iOS 4.2.
    Depending on what kind of system you're using, there are several reasons why your iTunes may be out of date:
    In the Mac world, if you're not running a version of OS/X newer than 10.5.x (Leopard) then iTunes won't upgrade to the latest version (10).  If you have a pre-2006 G-series processor Mac, you're pretty-much stuck at 10.4.x (Tiger) or lower and, sadly, Apple/iTunes doesn't support those machines any more.  If your Mac is newer than 2006 but older than 2008, you'll likely be stuck at finding a copy of Snow Leopard (10.6.x) and you need to see your local Apple service provider to see if they can get you updated.
    If you're running a Windows workstation, I believe that any Windows machine that's still running XP patched to Service Pack 2 or later should still be able to install and use iTunes 10.  The system requirements can be found on the iTunes download page.  If for some reason your iTunes has stopped doing its updates (or won't do them) you'll probably need to re-install iTunes.  Installing over-top of the old iTunes should work and you won't loose any of your data - however, just in case, you should back-up your computer prior to making any significant changes to the software.
    Now, Diesel also made the assumption that you may only have a 3G phone and not a 3Gs.  To verify this not the case, plus for anyone who may be reading this and has any doubt, this link will help you identify your phone.  iOS 5 and later does not support phones older than the 3Gs, and its unlikely that your cellular service provider will for very long either.
    Good luck.

    error 1015 while updating my iphone 3gs?

    Activation issues are typically the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken.
    If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

    The iPhone 3G will not upgrade past iOS 4.2.1, but the iPhone 3GS is supported up to iOS 6.1.3.  Are you sure you have a 3GS and not just a 3G?

    You cannot. Your phone was hacked, and now, as a result, it seems to be bricked, ruined, because it was hacked.

  • HT4623 How do you update the iPhone 3gs to the latest software?

    I do not have an iPhone 4.  I have an iPhone 3gs, and am trying to update the latest software.  I have tried three times already, and each time I have to wait 2 hours so it is frustrating.  It has not worked a single time yet.  Not much on the internet talks about updating a 3gs to the latest software, but I finally found something that said I had to have the latest iTunes.  I did not have the latest iTunes, so I am trying that now.  Hopefully that works.  If there's something I really need to do, please help.  I just want the latest software.

    Connect your phone to iTunes on a PC and you will be guided from there.
    Or - you could use the search facility on this page - there are thousands of hits.

    <Edited by Host>

    Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
    If an Update Appears Install it... if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

  • HT4623 i tried to update my iphone 3gs from 4.1 to 6.1.3 but it could not activate.

    How can i activate my iphone?

    AFAIK you do not have to activate normally.
    Was your iPhone jailboken?
    Or was your computer in the past used to jailbrake an iPhone?

    First use JPanel not Panel.
    Panel panels[]=new Panel[4];becomes
    JPanel panels[]=new JPanel[4];Then refactor your code so that you use arrays correctly:
    panels=new Panel();
    panels.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));becomes
    panels=new JPanel();
    panels[i].setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
    I did the above changes to your code and it worked fine.

  • HT4623 Updated my iPhone 3gs yesterday (1st time ever).  Backing up content to icloud but would not quit.  Screen would not disappear.  Finally disconnected phone from computer and lost EVERYTHING.  Can I get it back?

    Updated my iPhone 3gs yesterday to ios 6 (first time ever).  Backed up my content to icloud, but it wouldn't quit.  Remained on that screen for HOURS.  Finally disconnected phone from computer.  Still would not go away--just the "circle of death."  Restarted phone and lost EVERYTHING (pics, contacts and apps).  Can I get them back?  Are they somewhere out in cyberspace or lost for good?

    You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
    When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
    So far I have tried the following to no avail:
    Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
    Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
    Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
    Reinstalled the latest itunes.
    Reset the ipod.
    Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
    Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
    Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
    At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one.
