Hi, My Iphone 4s wifi button is grey and won't turn on.  I have reset the network settings in settings, rebooted it and taken it back to factory settings. Any help or advice would be welcome

You should get it looked at by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or an Apple Store next to your place, this might be a hardware issue.

  • I cannot get my WiFi button to "ungrey" - any help out there? It used to work fine.

A few days ago I got a notice from Verizon I was over half my data limit for the month. I've always been connected to WiFi when at home so I checked my phone and the WiFi button is grayed out - I can't turn it on. I've reset the phone, updated, erased and restored, reset my modem and still no luck. Any other suggestions?

Your Wifi chip failed.  You'll need to bring your phone to Apple.  If you're not under warranty any longer, you will pay $199 for an out of warranty replacement.

  • I just recently completely reset my iPod touch and now it won't let me connect to wifi, it won't even let me access the wifi option in the settings. The wifi button is grey and says: "no wifi"

So I've been trying looking at manuals and online and I can't find anything helpful at all!!! help please? D:

Not a good sign.  Here is Apple's article on that.  Frequently it is due to a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Right, im going to a apple store tomorrow to get my phone fixed because my wifi button turned grey, and i still have warrantey on my phone, so i was wondering if i would have to pay any money?

    would it cost money?

The button might be gray because airplane mode is on; if it is, turning it off will fix the problem

  • I have an iPod touch 4th gen and it updated by itself to iOS6 without a wifi connection. When I unlocked it, it told me to connect to iTunes. So, I updated the software and when the update was finished, my wifi button was greyed out. I'm cant turn on wifi

My iPod updated by itself without a wifi connection. It told me to connect it to iTunes so I did and I updated the software and everything. After it was updated, my wifi button was greyed out and I don't know why. I sent it in to get fixed and the Apple store did NOTHING. I still have about 48 days left on my one year waranty and I don't know what to do to fix the problem. Please, does anyone know how to fix this issue without selling it or replacing it? I've tried all the troubleshooting techniques and nothing is working. Someone help.

In "purchases" while in my App Store, Mountain Lion says, "an error has occurred" and the green 'download' button is grey and I cannot re-start the download. I was abroad when I purchased this app and during download, my internet connection was lost. At the time, Apple was still offering the e-chat, so I did that and the man was very helpful and it was a quick fix, so my download button turned green again, and I was able to begin the download. BUT during the download, I was kicked offline once again, and I decided to wait until I was back in the USA. I will go in to an Apple store and ask assistance, but if there is something I am missing, I'd like to try that first. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi, my wifi button just greyed out a few minutes ago and I can't connect to wifi. Have followed instructions given by Apple support but it's still not working. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks & Happy New Year :-)

First, you don't have a 5+ year old 3GS. The 3GS has only been around for under 4 years. In fact, 5 years ago there were NO iPhones; the original iPhone (2 generations before the 3GS) came out on June 29, 2007 - not quite 5 years ago. The 3GS was released June 19, 2009.
That aside, you can sync multiple phones to one computer - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495. boogeyman is wrong. It is 100% safe to create an additional user name on her computer, log in with that name, and back up the phone. See this for details on what you want to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109

Got my ipad mini. It works perfectly fine until I updated to ios 6.0.2. Now I can't connect to wifi. I've tried every solutions offered in every forums and internet sites but nothing happened. Still ipad cannot connect to wifi. HELP!!!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.
