  • HT1551 Apple TV "could not sign in unknown error"

Apple TV "could not sign in unknown error"
Has worked forever. Used it the other day.
Tried tonight and received the above message.
Unplugged it, waited about 20 seconds, then
Restarted it. Same results. Comes with an "ok"
Button.  When I click it I get the same message.

Unplugged and replugged Apple TV and router still nothing.
Spoke with Apple  and they suggested resetting and the restoring
If necessary. Neither were.  Apple TV decided to start working
Properly on its own.  2&1/2 years and still kicking.  This was the only
Blip.  I love Apple. Cool or uncool. These products have rarely failede
And if they do, the problem is always solved effortlessly.
I love Apple products. Faithful to Apple for 20 years of little to no problems.
Aprox 7 different Apple products currently in use in our home.
Nothing but the best. Did I say I love Apple?  I do.

  • Could not sign in Unknown error.

Have had my Apple TV for over a year on the same iTunes account, working flawlessly. All of a sudden today, I get random:
    Could Not Sign In
    Unknown error.
    Messages.
Restart - nada. Power interrupt - nada.
Log off and try to log back in in settings: same message every time now.
    Help!

Sort of. I did a full restore from settings, which resets it to factory settings, but with the latest software update. Then had to set it up like new, and re-login or register apps like MLB, Netflix, Hulu, etc. Took over an hour, but the problem hasn't been back since. Kind of sad that no one replies on these forums, including Apple support. I'm full Apple technology ecosystem in my home, but have started to shop other devices now after this experience. Technology issues I can take. Lack of support, not so much.

  • HT204266 When i sign in App Stores (or Settings iTunes & AppStores), I get an message: "Could not sign in - unknown error"

    help me!!

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • I am trying to download an app and keep getting this error message: "Could not sign in. An unknown error has occurred" keeps popping up.

This is a question for a mini iPad...
I am trying to download an app and keep getting this error message: "Could not sign in. An unknown error has occurred.  I have tried shutting down and restarting. I've tried changing the password. I get the error message with free and not free apps. Any suggestions on how to fix?

Reports are that this is a problem with the iTunes Store that they're working on. Some people have had success after signing out of their account and back in. If that doesn't work for you, wait a few hours or perhaps until tomorrow and by then they may have the problem sorted out.
    Regards.

When trying to use the App Store, I get a message "could not sign in, an unknown error has occurred,  any suggestions what is wrong?  I reset our Internet and turned off the iPad.

Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • App store error message "could not sign in" "an unknown error has occurred"

has anyone else gotten this message when trying to sign into the app store:
"could not sign in" "an unknown error has occurred"
i know my password is correct, i signed in on my macbook and on my imac and no issue there.
i called apple and they coulnd't figure out what it is, i reset my network settings and same thing. of course i can't do a restore because i'm at work and we don't have the new lighting cords here for me to hook up to my imac

I experienced this problem, too -- and with the help of an Apple support rep, figured out a way out.
Go into Settings and turn off automatic date and time, and set your phone back a year. Then go back and turn automating date and time back on, to get back to the present. Now go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores, click on your AppleID, and re-enter it and your password. Finally, go back to the App Store (or iTunes Store) and try to download what you had been trying before -- and if you're like me, it will now pop up with a new set of Terms and Conditions for you to approve. After you approve, you'll be able to download whatever you had been trying to.
It appeared, in my case, that Apple needed to present me with a new Terms & Conditions to approve, but for some reason, iOS 6 and the Apple mother ship weren't communicating correctly about how to do that, and I was stuck with the "Could Not Sign In" message. Changing the iPhone's time and/or re-signing in via Settings > iTunes & App Stores resolved the roadblock for some reason. Hope this works for others as well!

  • Could Not Sign In. An unknown error has occurred (App Store on iPad)

    Hi,
I've just bought an iPad mini today. I have also created an Apple ID which is work fine with FaceTime and iMessage (already test call and sent text). But when I tried to login to App Store it said "Could Not Sign In. An unknown error has occurred". I tried login with my son's account and it work fine. It just won't accept my newly create ID. I'm sure my password is correct because I can use it to login to this Support Communities page.
    What should I do?

Try refreshing the ID by signing out, restart the iPad and then sign in again..
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to download again.

  • Could not sign in - An unknown error has occured.

I have tried to install a new app from the app store today and when it asks me to enter my password to install, i get the above message "Could not sign in - An unknown error has occured."
I have tried via my wifi and using the phone network.
Is anyone else having these issues?

I also just had this exact issue with an iPhone 4. Thank goodness all of you are here! I was originally afraid to sign out, because I was afraid it would not let me sign back in with the issue I was having. After reading this, I signed out and then back in right away and the issue was resolved! TY TY TY TY Good Advice is given below by IIIaass!

  • Brand New iPod- Brand New Account- Could Not Sign In An Unknown Error Has Occurred

Just got home with a brand new iPod touch from the Apple Store.  iOs 6.0.1
Set up a brand new Apple ID and iCloud account. Verfied and confirmed the account via email on the iPod.  iPod has not been attached to a computer.
I am attempting to download some free apps from the App Store and I get the following error:
Could Not Sign In  An unknown error has occurred.
I went into Settings/iTunes & App Store and attempted to enter my Apple ID and Password.  I get the same error:
Could Not Sign In  An unknown error has occurred.
I clicked on Forgot Apple ID or Password?  I then select Enter Your Apple ID.  I go through the Password Retrieval process in iForgot.  I select Answer Security Questions.  I verify my date of birth.  I correctly answer my Security Question.  I attempt to enter the same password I already have (in an attempt to eliminate the scenario where my password may have been mistyped).  I get the following message:
The password specified has been used in the past year.  Please select another.
Now I know that the password I have been entering in the App Store and in Settings is correct becasue I just set up the new account and have only had one password.
I cancel out and close the Safari iForgot window.
I go back to the App Store and attempt to login using my correct Apple ID and an intentionally mistyped password.  I get the following message:
Your Apple ID or password is incorrect.
Now I know the Apple Store does indeed recognize my correct Apple ID/Password combo, otherwise I would get the same Unknown Error message.
I have attempted to force quit all apps, reboot, re-try and reboot ad nauseum, but to no avail.
So, someone at Apple, tell me, what the heck is going on? How do I proceed?

I've just found the fix!!!!!! I downloaded itunes to my home PC and logged in using my newly created account, a message came up saying that i've not used this account yet with itunes and I need to confirm settings. It basically took me through my credit card information and personal details (strangely it wanted my title as a required field, yet on the ipad setup it didn't - maybe check this field is filled out in your account settings). Then it gave me a message saying I was ready to use the account. I logged into my ipad and all was good - literally did it 2 seconds after seeing the message on my PC. I hope this helps you also ;-)
