As a test I put my iPhone in Airplane mode and when I opened Maps I was instructed to turn off Airplane mode or use WiFi to show my location on the map. I pressed OK and got another message that my location is unable to be displayed on the map. I know data is used to download the map to show your current location and I guess without some type of data connection the Map app will not function.

Am I hard of hearing or does this phone's volume too low for human ears?

I just bought 3 8g iPhones and have discovered that on all three you cannot hear what is being said to you in the speaker phone setting (in my car, I can't hear what folks are saying even with the phone 6 inches from my face). Even when I am just listening on regular setting and not on speaker, I can barely hear what people are saying to me. This is in addition to the fact that I have had more dropped calls in three days on AT&T (the network with the fewest dropped calls) than I had in about 3 years with Sprint. Is everyone having this problem?? I know my wife thinks I am deaf but I just have her fooled and I actually hear quite well. IS THE INCOMING VOLUME ON THESE PHONES AS LOUSY AS THEY APPEAR TO BE ON ALL 3 THAT I BOUGHT LAST WEEK?

No, that is correct -- it is (IMHO) the number one flaw in the iPhone, the low volume on the speaker as well as even just using the phone normally.
Good news is the Apple bluetooth headset goes a long ways towards fixing the problem (bad news is it's $$$). I would advise you to return your phones if you cannot live with this, as my opinion (FWIW) is this cannot be fixed via software (so we are probably stuck with this until the 2nd gen phones).

Obviously, you are using the transparency available for the GIF format.
In addition, you should tick the Anti-Aliasing which is, unfortunately, hidden away like a hidden feature in the Image Size window within Save for Web.

First off, I'm sorry to hear about the theft of your daughter's computer. The good news is that all Apple computers have their serial number in multiple places (depending on the model) and Apple maintains a list of every one of them. Do you have the serial number? If not, you can get it from the retailer you purchased it from.
As far as GPS and disabling it, it is going to depend on several factors but the short answer is probably not. I mean, Yes, there is a a way to detect location in most modern Mac's through a web browser using Geolocation (W3C API) but there is no onboard GPS; disabling the machine remotely would require you to have 'Back to my Mac' already set up on it from iCloud. There might also be some third party tools available that I'm not aware of.
Again, I'm really sorry to hear about the stolen computer. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you have any other questions.
BTW, what model and year is the computer that was stolen?

     Press the "Delete All" button.
     Install Adobe Flash Player.

   Download it first.
   The next step is important.
   Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.
   If it doesn’t quit, Force Quit it.
   Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
   When Force Quit window appears, select the application if not already.
   Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window. Wait.
   Application will quit.
    Follow the prompts and install it.
    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.

Call AppleCare and tell them you just want to know if your iPhone is unlocked and if not, who is it locked with. If it is locked contact the cell provider and ask them what their unlock process is and complete it if you qualify.
