and now itunes states that phone is in recovering mode and wont do anything? please help
diesel--how can we save pictures and video before restoring to factory settings? That's the magic question that I can't find an absolute answer to. Just had a get together with my dad, who has cancer, I don't want to lose those pictures. There has to be a fail-safe for when this happens. My phone was working fine until I updated and was sent into recovery mode. I have a pc so my pictures weren't automatically imported but they still have to be somewhere on the phone.

To update it all you need to do is connect the phone to iTunes and you can then update it.
If you are using anything less than iOS 5, then you can't update directly on your phone as this is not available and iOS 5 is the first OS where this option was available. -

The picture is suggesting you plug your iPhone into iTunes on your computer using the USB cord.

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

I just tried to update my iphone 4 to the 5.01. It said that my phone backed up and started update. i went on a run and came back and my phone is now stuck in recovery mode. I tried to update my iPhone 4s to the ios 6 and it wouldn't download and my phone will not work. I started the download and it said that it had 6 hours remaining, so i just left it overnight. The next morning it was working fine, but the ios 6 didn't download. I looked at it later and it had the turning on screen with the loading bar under it. It stayed like that for a while and the bar didn't move. I needed to use my phone so I tried to make it go to the home screen, but nothing happened. I held down the lock and home button for a few seconds and everything went black. I tried to turn it back on and all it has done all day is stayed on the turning on screen. I tried plugging it into the wall, and nothing happened. I tried connecting it to iTunes, and nothing happened. I don't know what I need to do to get it to work.

If you have a back up of your phone, then theres no worries you can restore to it.
if you don't have a backup, then you'll lose everything. You'll have to restore to update. -

When jailbroken, you cannot update the iOS on your device. The only way to fix it is to do a full restore through iTunes. Before you do this make sure you backup your device and everything on it.

I have just tried to update my iPhone 5 adn its stuck with iTunes plug in sign, I have always used my I CLOUD.
Please someone help, Im lost without my phone!!Do this.
Turn your phone off: When you get to that itunes plug in sign, press and hold the power and home button until your screen goes black, and release those buttons when it goes black. ( make sure your phone is not plugged in your pc yet).
Now your phone is off.
Next do this: Press and hold power+home button for exactly 10 seconds, after 10 seconds pass, release the power button but keep holding your home button for exactly 13 seconds.
Now plug in your usb cord to your pc and then to iphone, and open up itunes. Itunes should say that there is a device in recovery mod discovered , and simply press RESTORE. Your iphone will restore and you'll be able to use your phone.

I lost everything cause I wanted to update my phone
here is what happened with me exactly :-
I plugged in my phone into the charger & connected my phone to a wireless connection to start the operation of updating it, I immediately noticed that I dont have the required space to proceed the download so i had to delete data manually, & meanwhile i was doing so my phone became slow and it got stuck then it went off after that it came on again but it was on the recovery mode ??
