HT4623 How do I go back to iOS5 from iOS6

Question

How do I get rid of iOS6. Google maps was one of my most used apps and its been replaced with the less than adequate apple maps. I  want to go back to iOS5.

I found Google maps to be close to useless, because it was full of errors and couldn't do turn-by-turn navigation, not only not by voice but not even visually. Can you imagine how lame a GPS app is that you have to tell when you reach a turn? It already must know, but you still have to tap the screen for the next instruction! I once entered an address and it took me to that address, but in a different town 5 miles away. And yes, I HAD entered the correct town name. Just yesterday on my computer using Google maps I looked for an address of a hotel in Danbury CT and it put it right in the middle of Interstate 84, about half a mile from its actual location. And when I entered the street address it showed me the building next door.
Then there's the time I asked it for public transit directions to NYC from NJ. It instructed me to take a train to Hoboken (OK so far...), then WALK ACROSS THE HUDSON RIVER.
I gave up on Google Maps on the iPhone a couple of years ago and bought a pocket-sized Garmin. Since iOS 6 I've been using the Apple maps, and it has made a few mistakes (it put a store around the corner from where it actually was in Manhattan), but for most of my needs it is actually usable. I DON'T have to tap the screen when I get to a turn, it knows I'm there, and it speaks the next instruction. And it also shows the road signs I should see, something that Google doesn't do.
And BTW, I'm not alone. There have been a steady stream of complaints about the Google maps app going back 5 years in these forums.
