Help needed to update a 4th gen ipod touch running version 4.3.5 (8L1) to the latest 6.0 version. When I connect and try to update i keep getting a box which states that a connection error occured and I cannot update.
I have been given a new laptop for xmas which runs on windows 8, and the new itunes version (which is in itself a hurdle as I am a technophobe!) and this is all becoming a bit fustrating.
I have connected, updated and synced my iphone successfully, but just hit a brick wall on the ipod. (which incidentally maybe where this laptop will end up!!)
Help if you can, but in laymans terms.......

Let me get this straight...... I have paid for content on itunes, bought the apple devicds in order to play said content, now I have to subscribe $25 for the privilage of playing MY library content on MY other devices. Which wasn't such an issue to do before the new and improved itunes version!!
Have I got that correct. I think I cannot associate my other iOS devices with my library because I am unwilling to pay further through the nose!!!??? or am I missing something?

Yu need a device like the following:
- A MiFi or similar. They are credit-card size devices that act a wifi hotspot and then connect to a cellulare network
- Use a smart phone that can act as a wifi hotspot to share it s cellular connection. An iPhone will also do that via bluetooth. You need to purchase a tethering plan .

If everthing goes as planned, your app date wil be restored to the iPod. To help guard againste a possible mishap. sync (iTunes also creates a backup) the iPod before the udate and caopy the backup file to a save location in case something happens. The backup is located here:

iPad 1's can only be updated to IOS 5.1.1. The iPad 1 doesn't have the processing power to handle any higher.

It has the dock connector on one end fro connection to the iPod and then two connectors on the other end, one for connecting to the firewire charger you use and the other to connect to the usb port on your computer to sync the iPod. You can sync and charge at the same time.

I installed the latest version of iTunes on my girlfriend's computer because I don't have internet access at my house, signed in, plugged up my iPod, backed it up, and attempted to update it. I tried SEVERAL times, and each time iTunes finishes downloading the update, but won't actually install it on my iPod. I don't get any error messages; it just quits/gives up. ITunes offers no explanation as to why it stopped the update, and I have to start all over again. I don't understand why it won't work. Someone please help me. Thanks in advance.

The iPod Classic has no Wifi, so no internet connection, and as such no way to update form within itself.
To update the software on an iPod classic you must connect the iPod to a computer running iTunes.
From the iPod Classic Manual:

It’s recommended that you update iPod classic to use the latest software. You can also restore the software, which puts iPod classic back to its original state.
•If you choose to update, the software is updated, but your settings and songs aren’t affected.
• If you choose to restore, all data is erased from iPod classic, including songs, videos, files, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All iPod classic settings are restored to their original state.
Update or restore iPod classic:

I have a 4th generation iPod touch. I updated my iTunes. And honestly the only thing in the above message that makes sense is to try again later. Well I tried that several times.

HT4623 What happens if the Software Update option is not there in the General Settings?

When downloading Apps on to my iPad it tells me that I require iOS 5 or higher, and yet there is no facility I can find to upgrade the iOS.
There should be Software update option in General Settings but there isn't, and there doesn't appear to be a download facility in iTunes either.
Rather confused?
Any help would be good
