I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch, which is 4.2.1 at the moment, and I am trying to upgrade it to ios 5.0, but my itunes will not let me, and it said that I have the latest upgrade, but i do not... how do i upgrade my iPod touch??

It said on the Apple site that the 3rd Gen iPhone can operate with iOS5 and above. But it wont go past 4.2.1?

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

Correction: Thank you FoxFifth for the good information. I did find this information earlier before landing here in the support community. I have come to the end and I am uncertain about trying to reset my I-pod touch to the factory settings. I was satisfied with the older version of i-tunes. I tried restoring from iTunes and I did not see any option to format it in HFS. After restore, the iPod is still using FAT32. I used the Disk Utility in 10.6.2 to format it in HFS. But, iTunes told me that I cannot use the iPod and forced me to do a restore, which formatted my iPod back in FAT32.
Is HFS not supported any more? I really do not like to use FAT32.

iPods do not get infected.
Even if it did, plugging an "infected" iPod into a Mac would have no affect on the Mac.
I expected support for HFS+.
Bummer.
Previous generation shuffles did have that support.
All iPod shuffles have only been FAT32 as formatted by iTunes.
You can format them as HFS+ using Disk Utility and use them as a thumb drive but they will not work as an iPod until you Restore them in iTunes (to FAT32).

Unable to use iCloud Backup on iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1

Hi, I have been unable to use iCloud Backup for several weeks on both my iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1 & my iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1
iCloud Backup is set to On on both devices. It did backup once or twice, since I installed the iOS 6.0.1, then it stopped working altogether.
I hope someone can help me.

You will need to do this from your computer. If you do not use your computer to sync with iTunes, you will not be able to get around this.
However, I should have asked of this only happens when you are trying to view events in March, so maybe I misled you. I apologize. Try this now. Quit the calendar app completely in the recents tray and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

3rd gen itouch requires activation

having a problem with my 3rd gen itouch. the touch screen isn't working. so i tried to reformat it thinking it might reset everthing. well it worked for a few minutes then the screen stopped wotrkling, meaning that it didn't recognize and movement when i tried to unlock it to use it. after the formatting, i put my music and apps back onto the device, it was after that the screen stopped working and I got a messge on the lock screen "activation required".
what can i do to fix it or get it fixed. or worse case scenario, do i have a hockey puck?
