  • When trying to sync ipod to new computer

Hello I have been trying to sync my ipod to a new computer, I found this disk method very useful
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
Now the music from my ipod is transferred to my itunes, under my music, which I m really happy about, but it is faded out, and when I try and sync, it still gives me the message "the itunes libary is synced with another itunes library.Do I want to erase and and replace with existing playlists"
Any ideas ? As I dont want to loose all of my music !!!
    Thanks

  • 2 questions; how to erase "other memory" on iphone 5 and how to sync to a new computer

Apple support is failing to help my issues so I thought its best to turn to the community. OK so I've talked to Apple before about my "other memory" and I performed a soft reset on my phone and it decreased other memory by maybe a gig. A month later now its higher than it was before at over 5.6 gigs, any way how to make it as little as possible?
Also I just got a new macbook pro and I use to sync my iphone 5 to my macbook (2008), how do I make my macbook pro my primary itunes and still keep all my info on my phone? My new macbook pro itunes says its backed up, but when I plug it in it won't sync any new songs or app data to my itunes, etc.
Any help with these issues will much be appreciated!!

"Other" is all of the data for all of the built in apps. If you delete its contents all of your built in app data will disappear. Some of what is contained in other:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
Probably a few I've missed. There was a problem in an earlier version where deleted MMS messages left behind their attachments, but that has been fixed as of 6.1. Some people suggest deleting your music on the phone. DON'T DO IT! The reason that deleting music recovers some Other space is because it deletes cover art. But is also screws up your music, which will no longer play correctly.
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 1 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Your Other is so large, however, that there may be corrupt data contained in it (unless you send a lot of MMS messages with large attachments). If this is the case you should restore the phone as New.

For your other question, the easiest way is to copy your iTunes library folder from the old computer to the new computer. For the hard way, see: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • How to sync iPad to new computer/macbook maintaining game data

    Hi,
my wife is using an iPad (1)
Sofar she has synchronized with iTunes on a windows machine.
Right now I want to move to iTunes on a new macbook.
I have synced on the old (windows) computer.
I have 'transferred purchases' on the new macbook.
    (Apple id's are the same)
All apps are now on the iPad and the macbook.
Now we need to sync the iPad and iTunes on the macbook.
Question: what will happen with all game data.
Apparantly all apps (250 games!) will be removed and replaced from /on the iPad.
But what will happen to to game data/status?
Will all the work in (e.g.) the 'Smurf city' be wiped out?
Is the a way to keep/remain/save the game data?
thx in advance for your tips and hints

You want to restore from the backup in order to restore the app data and game saves.
I have posted this a number of times. You have done some of this already, but this is a "start from scratch" list ofinstructions for syncing with a new computer. Anything that does not apply - like transferring music or photos at the end - just ignore.
    1. Authorize the computer.
    2. Turn off auto sync in iTunes
    3. Transfer purchases
    4. Backup the iPad
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your new computer, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your computer and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your computer, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your computer. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

One final note - you may want to leave auto sync turned off - but that is totally up to you. I never did use auto sync.

  • How do I sync iPod to new computer?

My daughter has a 4gb Nano that I manual sync because I do not want her ratings to mess with mine and because the library is bigger than 4gb. She now has a used labtop that I have set up with iTunes, I have copied all the music from my pc to her labtop and put it into iTunes.
What is the best way to sync her nano to the new computer? Can this be done without her losing her ratings and play counts that are only saved on the iPod? Is there a way to auto sync when the memory on the iPod is smaller than the library? Thanks, Robert

I'm not sure about the ratings and playcounts on her ipod, since it has always been set for manual sync. I think if you change it to auto sync, it will tell you it's going to erase everything....you could always try a 3rd-party ipod manager.

  • Sync iPod to new computer after old one crashed

    My MacBook recently crashed. :(
I had my iPod Touch 2G synced to it. I know how to sync my iPod to the new computer and keep iTunes Purchased content but what I don't know is how to sync it and not lose any songs, pictures etc. that were not downloaded from iTunes. Can someone please help?
    Thanks in Advance!

P.S. I do have a backup of my iTunes library because we were able to save my data from the old Mac but it was not fully up-to-date because I had begun to download most of my things over the air without ever plugging in to iTunes.

Make sure your newly set up MacBook is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0
Pictures and other data can be saved following this article: How to back up your data and set up as a new device

  • Old computer crashed and cannot sync ipod to new computer?

My old computer crashed and now i got a new computer. I can download songs from itunes with my appleID but they wont sync to my ipod?! I tried following the troubleshoot for authorizing a new computer and it says it is now authorized. I also use to use home sharing for my and my mom's computers. I deauthorized all computers and then tried re authourizing this one but still no luck. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Im leaving for vacation Friday and would love to have all the songs I just purchased go onto my ipod! Thanks for any help!

    Hey missyt23
I would try restoring the iPod and then sync again. A thing to look for is to change settings for syncing music. For example change to manually manage music and drag the music to the iPod.

  • Capacity issue with syncing iPod to new computer

Trying to sync my 32 GB iPod Touch 4th Generation to my new laptop after updating my iTunes library.  Took all of my music from my old computer and added it to the new one through home sharing and added some new songs.  Have tried to sync my iPod now that all of the new music is on my new laptop, but I keep getting a message that I don't have enough free space.  However, the amount of music I'm trying to sync is actually less than the capacity of the iPot.  Is the sync trying to add the music libraries together somehow?  I thought it would erase what was on the iPod and replace it with the music on the iTunes library on my new laptop. The error message says: "The iPod cannot be synced because there is not enouch free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library." Any suggestions??

So you have stuff on your iPod that right now does not also exist on the computer? If so, you need a way to move the stuff off the iPod onto the computer, correct?

  • Syncing IPod to New Computer

My old computer died and like a dummy I never backed it up. When I attached and was able to get all musci purchased in itunes, but when I sync my ipod to my new computer I can see my ipod in itunes it's like a folder and I can play the music and stuff on my Ipod, but if I purchase new songs in itunes I can't put them on my Ipod. I'm at a loss. I've tried a few things but I'm not that computer savy......help

This support article describes several troubleshooting steps to take. Try these and see if they help. I believe the one about authorizing the computer is probably what your issue is.
