i am not able to see software update option in my settings
i am using iphone4 ruuning on ios 6.0.1
Your iOS version is probably too old to support software update. You must update using iTunes on your computer.
Make sure your iTunes on the computer is current. Plug your iPhone into iTunes. Let it sync. Then choose "Check for Updates..." from the iPhone's summary tab in iTunes. That should od it for you.

My I-Phone 4 does not have the Software Update option under my settings? Where do I go now?
Try actually reading the article you linked from. Especially the section on updating using iTunes...

On my general settings page, I do not have the software update option.
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I have an IPAD 2 that I purchased two years ago. I would like to get a more current version of the IOS so that I can download games, etc. The instructions say to go to General and select Software Download. I do not have that option listed in my General area. Does anyone know how I should go about getting the more current IOS? Also, will the download hurt my IPAD. I was told it might damage my operating system. Thank you, Marilyn
No. The Download is the operating system. It won't damage it because its released by Apple and signed to work on it.
It will update the Operating system to the newer version.

I am trying to update to IOS5 but my IPad is not giving me the option to update. How can I get the update?
The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

I have tried everything I can think of to update my iPad folloowing online instructions but am stumped at the 1st hurdle with the settings - general - there is no Update software anywhere in the various lists.
Assuming you have iOS 4.3 as your tagline suggests. You'll need to connect your iPad to a Computer running iTuines (Can be a Mac or a Pc doesn't matter) and follow the update prompts.
You'll probably want to back up the iPad before updating though.
