You likely have a 2G iPod and those can go higher than 4.2.1
    A 3G can go to 5.1.1
IA 4G, with cameras can go to iOS 6.1.6.
The 5G, also with cameras can go to iOS 8
    To update
The Settings>General>Software Update comes with iOS 5 and later.
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes as far as your iPod model allows

    - A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
    - A 4G to 6.1.6  Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. For a Mac, that requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later
    - A 5G to iOS 8 Requires iTunes 11.4 or later if you update via iTunes

  • Access Connections 5.83 + System Update + Support Site

    Hi there,
Has anyone noticed Access Connections 5.83 continuously reverting back to Basic mode ? (exhibited on two laptops X301 + T410s)
Also System Update - where is it pointing after the latest update ? Lenovo's servers or IBM ?
Which support site am I looking at ? IBM or Lenovo ?
Is anyone going to actually have a look at the Lenovo site because there are links to the same software different versions in all sections and its a total head blergh !
    Thanks

    hey DangerMouse,
have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software ?
the support site you should look at will be http://support.lenovo.com ; you may at times see links pointing back to www.ibm.com .
do not be afraid as we are still in the midst of migrating from an ibm server to the new Lenovo server. Thus there might be some items still pointing back to the IBM site

I'm trying to upgrade an ipad and in the system under general there is no software update.  What do I do?

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
With iOS 6 you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change

  • HT4623 I can not find the "software update" option

I tried to update my iPad from iTunes they are instructions indicating to pursue them as follow settings than general than update software
I can not find the last one? Is there any solution?

Scroll down in the HT4623 article you attached to the "Update your device using iTunes" section.
You must not have yet installed iOS 5 on your iPad, so there is no "Software Update" button.

Then you're not running iOS 5.  Connect to computer, launch iTunes and update there.

I want to load Skype in my iPad. It asks for ios5. I checked in settings. It is not available under general heading.w

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • Grub can't find root device after system update today (12/30)

I did a system update (kernel was updated to 2.6.32) today and turned off my computer. When I tried to boot up, Grub said it couldn't find my root device (/dev/sdb3) which is on my external hard drive. Grub and my kernel is on my external hard drive too (/dev/sdb1) so the hard drive itself seems to be working. If it'll help, here are my hooks:

  • MacOS can't find system updates

    Hello
I've got an issue with my Mac OS system. The thing is the system can't find system updates in AppStore application. I can see updates for applications but not for system. For instance, when I open iTunes I have a massage that update for iTunes 12.0.1 is available, but when I switch to AppStore I can't see this update in update list.
Actually I've updated to 10.10.1 by direct downloading update package due to absence of 10.10.1 update in my AppStore update list.
The problem appeared when I updated for 10.10 from my 10.9 OS.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance

Yes, that is normal, when you had Mavericks before you will see that also with the "download" button. AS it says.
This "download" is a real download (inc the update if there is any) and it downloads the whole OSX: you can do that easier with the RecoveryPartition:
hold CMD+R keys while starting up, it opens in the Recovery Partition, choose install OSX: it downloads and installs the latest updated OSX, it leaves your user data and settings alone.
the "update" buttons do the same as in the Updates Page.
But if there is an update of the OSX, it should also be in the Updates Tab of Appstore: there you install only the update.
Yosemite is at the moment at 10.10.1, see yours in Apple->About this Mac.

Unfortunately that is not possible any longer. My advice is to take the update.  You'll have to at some point or either you'll accidentally accept it.  The HD voice and video works well between compatible phones. And, if you run into a problem, better now than later.
