i cannot receive mms or connect to the internet without wi fi

Hello hairdresser25,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone only connected to the Internet and was able to receive MMS when connected to Wi-Fi. I recommend following the steps in the following article to assist with your cellular data connection:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection

Thank you for posting in the Apple Supprot Communities.

  • I receive a not connected to the internet message several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via cable modem.. When I input my password to enter network preferences, the connection re-establishes.

I receive a "not connected to the internet message" several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via a cable modem. Software/firmware is up to date on the iMac (OSX 10.6.8)  and Tme Capsule(7.5.2). Browser is Safari 5.1.
When I input my password at the prompt to enter network preferences, all the lights go green (ie... ethernet, ISP etc.) and the connection re-establishes immediately and states "the connection appears to be working normally".
It more of a nuisance than anything and seems to have started ocurring over the past couple of months. I also have a windows XP box also connected to the same cable modem that I never have internet connectivity issues with. I've verified all the physical aspects of the connections and can't see any evidence of any actual drops in the modem logs. I suspect it is just an intermittent communication loss between the Imac and the Time Capsule, but I am not very familiar with Mac equipment yet.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem and what you did (if anything) to resolve it?
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

  • Cannot send or receive mail but connected to the Internet

I am in a public place using their community wi-fi but cannot send or receive email even though I am connected to the Internet.  I tried using the "Connection Doctor", but that did not help.  Thank you!

Some Wi-Fi hotspots, especially free ones, block all ports except those used for web browsing. If that's the case, you should be able to check your mail in a web browser, if the account has a web interface.

  • Cannot play podcasts unless connected to the Internet

    Hello,
I have an iPod touch running IOS v7.1.  I sometimes have trouble listening to podcasts when the device is not connected to the Internet. The podcasts will appear in the list and are greyed out. This will happen to podcasts I have listened to before.
As a specific example, I have had a podcast appear greyed out in the podcast list but it was the one I was playing most recently. If I go to "now playing" it will play. If I play a different podcast then I cannot go back to this one and play it any longer.
I cannot figure out any settings or reason for any of this. I feel like I am missing something basic.

  • My iPhone 4S connects to the internet without wifi?

Trying to share my iPhone's internet connection wit my other apple devices, but I cannot because the personal hotspot option is not there. Does it have anything to with the following: My iPhone, inside or outside the house, connects to he internet without being connected to a wifi network. Is this why? If not, how can I connect my devices?

Can both MacBook Pros see other Wi-Fis, just not yours? What is the make & model of your wireless router/gateway device? If this device supports Ethernet connections, can both MBPs gain network/Internet access this way?

  • Why won't my iPhone 5c connect to the internet without wi-fi?

This is so strange, but I can't use my iPhone 5c apps when I'm not connected to wifi. This makes no sense because I have a data plan. It's not unlimited, but I've already checked with my carrier, and my data for the month has barely been used. The internet simply doesn't work without wi-fi. I've tried everything short of restoring the phone to its factory settings. I've done a hard reset by pressing the home and power buttons at the same time, powered the phone off and on several times. I've tried resetting the network settings. Nothing has worked. On wi-fi, my phone will work just fine. I can connect to all my apps and the internet. But on LTE or 3G, I can't even send an iMessage.
I really don't want to have to head into the Apple store and get a new phone, but I will if no one can figure out what's wrong. I'm about to try a full restore to factory settings after backing everything up to my computer. So we'll see how it goes.

I would check under settings < cellular that everything is turned on (or at least for the apps you want to use cellular data)
But with having mulitiple issue on cell data, it sounds like a possible issue the carrier would want to address. '

  • Safari and Other web browsers cannot open websites even connected to the internet

Im getting crazy trying to fix my Macbook! I cannot open any websites aside from Facebook! This is crazy! I don't know what I did but it used to be working perfectly fine. Please somebody help me! I have tried resetting Safari, emptying the cache but nothing worked. Same with Google Chrome. Any tips on how to fix this?

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    Then restart the iPad.
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears.  Slide to power off.  After it is off, press the power button to turn it back on.

  • HT4623 My iPhone will no longer connect to the internet or download my mail from iCloud.  The software is OS6 and I have plenty of storage space on the phone and iCloud.  I have checked all the obvious stuff in settings and can't resolve the issue.

Since late September my emails stopped arriving on my iPhone.  Access to the internet via Safari now only ends in a message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding"  I don't recall changing any settings and have checked the settings many times to try to figure out whats happening but without success. Ideas anyone?
    Thanks

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • My Firefox icon will not connect to the internet without manually opening my connection manager first. Why? How do I fix this issue?

I installed Firefox on our home computer this weekend (Dell). This is the browser that I use at work and I'm very happy with it.
Since installing I always have to manually open our connection manager to go online. I can't just click on the Firefox icon and have the connection manager automatically come up.
I have already checked the "no proxy" box as suggested. Firefox is set as our default browser.
Internet Explorer was our previous browser and it was so slow, but at least it automatically brought up my connection manager.

Used iTunes to download 6.1.2 to the iPad Mini.  It then worked for (app store and all) for 3 hours.  Then wifi stopped working at all.  Hurray!

  • HT1695 Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet

I recently bought iPhone 4 which is still "Locked" for cellular carriers in my country. It's a jailbroken phone.Therefor I connected to internet using a hotspot in my laptop via wi-fi.I'm using windows 7 in my laptop.I was able to connect to the internet without any problem till yesterday, but now I'm getting this error message "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet".I reset my network data and reboot my phone and router several times but still having same problem.I can see the wi-fi icon in my phone with full signal strength.Probably I got this problem after downloading the crack app called "iThemes",but I'm not 100% sure about this.
How can I fix this problem.
    Thank you.

Hacking an iPhone is against Apple's license agreement for the iPhone which you have admitted to violating on a forum that is provided and moderated by Apple, and is not supported by Apple directly or indirectly via this forum.
You are on your own - contact whoever you downloaded the hacking garbage from for help with this, which has also made your iPhone very insecure removing all the built-in security included with iOS.

  • Laptop will not connect to the internet, cannot get configuration box to pop up

Cannot get laptop to connect to the internet.  I tried the instructions on the link form Linksys.  I entered 192.168.1.1 in the address window but the configuration window does not pop up.

Is the laptop connected to a wireless network? Is it connected to your network name? If it is check the IP address for me. Go to Status of your wireless connection then Details, tell me your IPv4 IP address.
If the laptop is not connected to any wireless network. Do you have a wired computer or can you attach your laptop to the router, check your IP address. If it's in the range of 192... try if you can go to http://192.168.1.1
I'll be waiting for your reply.

  • Why is the SMS app trying to connect to the internet?

    Hi all,
I have an iPhone4 on a pre paid sim, and I noticed that my credit/load was being used up even though I had all push notifications etc turned off. I change the APN so that the phone couldn't connect to the internet without me knowing.
So now, each time I open the SMS app I get the message of "Could not activate cellular data network", so for some reason the SMS application is attempting to access the internet each time it is opened, and this is the reason why my credit/load was being used up.
I have NO MMS messages in my inbox so there is no reason that i can see why the app would try to connect to the internet.
Interestingly enough, this used to happen on my old iPhone 3G, however it suddenly just stopped one day.
So my questions is two fold...
    1) Why is SMS connecting to the internet?
    2) How the **** do i stop it?
    Thanks

    beecart wrote:
nick <<<SMS sends/receives data over the cell phone network - it doesn't access the internet. The reason it tries to access the network when you start it is to check for any SMS messages you have and also, I suppose, to establish and validate a connection so that you can send or receive when you need to.>>>
so does the above mean that if someone sends an sms it doesn't come through until you click on the message icon to check for them? i am having problems with delayed sms/mms but find that the backlog all come through sometimes when i have 'woke' the iphone, click on message app or launched an app.
    Any thoughts ?
No - what ought to happen is that the SMS message is pushed straight to your phone. If you're in an area of weak service, the SMS messages might not be able to get through straight away and, when that happens, it can sometimes take a long while after you move to an area of good signal for the messages to arrive. I recently spent some months working in a building where my carrier (O2 in the UK) had very poor to non-existent reception. People would SMS me during the day and, even though I came out of the building frequently, I often didn't get the messages on my phone until late evening.
    Hope that helps
