HT4623 I cannot update my iPhone 4. I have reset and erased all content and my phoine still does not have a "software update" under the general settings. What now?
I cannot update my iPhone 4. I have erased all content and reset the phone, however, there is still no "software update" under the general settings on my phone. I keep trying to download the update through iTunes and it quits everytime without success. Any suggestions?
READ the entire article from which the question was posted.
It clearly states that the "Update Software" option ONLY applies to iOS 5 and later.
If there are issues with updating via iTunes, provide specific details of what is occurring so that we can offer relevant solutions.

Giving iPhone 4 to family member, already erased all content and settings
I am giving my iPhone 4 (Verizon) to my younger brother who is in college b/c I picked up a iPhone 5 (Verizon) yesterday. I have already erased all content and setting via the reset. I have also went to the apple page to unregister the device under my apple id and phone number. Now I have heard horror stories of people selling their iPhones and for some reason the person who they sold it to will get the sellers iMessages. Has anyone experienced this before with selling Verizon CDMA phone?
That's a great question, Vell! I can understand why this is important to you! I can confirm that you have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that your brother does not receive your iMessages. I have also provided you with a great link that should soothe any lingering concerns...http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627 Have a great day!

Hi there,

Thanks for help. After wiping it, you need to re-activate it. If it is carrier locked, you will need to activate it on the network it is locked to.

Your headline says iPhone 3GS, but your text says 3G.
iPhone 3G is not compatible with iOS5. 3GS is. -
Why is there no "passcode" or "fingerprint" under the General settings in my updated iPhone?
Why is there no "passcode" or "fingerprint" under the General settings in my updated iPhone?
Because it was moved to the main menu in the Settings app. It's no longer under general.

How do i update 10.5.8 if my macbook does not show any software updates?
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply. -

I gave my ipad 2 to my brother last month. After that he erased all content and settings, sign in with his apple id. The next day until now, I found out that I can not udpate my apps both on my iPhone and iPad Air. I had create new apple id, change my password, delete the icloud acc. But still I can not update my apps. I have many of red notifications on iPhone and iPad Air. What should I do? Thank you in advance.
1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.

I erase all content and settings no backup and iphone from other country
HELP....
im in indonesia,my friend sent me an iphone 3g from japan .Iphone Sim card registered from a japan carrier (SOFT Bank--- Unuseful).
I might have experimented, and just wanting to restore the iphone to its original state, i initiated an "erase all content and settings" and iphone not working.
After putting it in DFU (Device Firmware Update) and restoring it,now only get a images with itunes and usb cable and the option of emergency calls and No other options.
connect with Itunes, says 'SIM card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported
Anybody can HELP me....
What can I possibly do to fix it??
THX beforeTo Restore, you need the SIM card that came with the iPhone. Restoring the phone without a proper SIM card installed (in your case, a SoftBank SIM) 'bricks' the iPhone.
Your phone cannot be used in Indonesia (unless it's linked to a SoftBank account and you're paying the huge bill for international roaming).
Telkomsel cannot change the setting. (Nor will they even service your phone - iPhone warranty coverage is limited to the country of purchase).
As above - send the phone back, get an iPhone from Telkomsel. -
I did Erase my iphone Erase all content and setting since 4 hours and still it is loading ??????

i am using iphone 4Hi soulhaib elroumi,
If you haven't already done so, does restarting or resetting the iPhone help the issue?
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If not, you may want to restore your iPhone in recovery mode using a computer with iTunes.

Does "reset and erase all content" update iOS?
Hi guys,
My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 that has been giving her a lot of problems lately. I want to restore it but I don't want to update it to iOS 6 just yet. Instead of restoring through iTunes, if I restore via settings>general>"reset settings and erase all content" will that restore the phone WITHOUT updating it to iOS 6? Please let me know. ThanksI understand that my chances of having issues are very slim. But articles like the one below make me nervous because if i update and have issues, Apple doesnt let me downgrade, meaning we would be stuck with crappy battery life and literally no way to fix it. Not a position I want to be in. I understand that the internet can blow things way out of portortion, but still.
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2012/100212-iphone-battery-262963.html
I understand that article refers to 6.0, but most of what i have read has said that people with battery issues havent seen it get better with 6.1 Thats why i was hoping to see a statistic of those affected. I just would hate to pull the trigger and have her battery die on her every afternoon. Just because 300 million are running iOS 6 doesnt mean 300 million are running it issue free. Any amount of them could be having trouble, but you would never know, because thanks to Apple, you CANT downgrade. -
I am trying to Erase All Content and Settings from my ios and it is asking for a 4 digit passcode but I dod not set any passcode for my iphone. I've reset it before and never asked now it is showing after the new IOS6 update.
Is there a default passcode or where can I get the code?
Thanks,If you are referring to the passcode lock you can restore the iPad by connecting it to your computer and using iTunes.
If you are being asked for your Apple ID and password you will have to enter that. No way around it. -
Hello,
I needed to do a hard reset on my iPhone 3GS and it's taking me too much time. It's taking almost 3 hours by now!!!!
I did it by going to "Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings", confirm it and then the iPhone turns off, gets the screen black with only the animated circle going on. And it's been there since then.
Is this a symptom of something bad? Should I do the hard reset by another way?Hello Ali Syed,
It sounds like your phone is stuck at the spinning gear icon on the screen after Erasing all Content and Settings on your device. I would start by resetting the device with this process:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
From: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists you may need to put the phone into recovery mode, and then restore it with iTunes as a new device:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care,
