HT4623 I don't have "software update" under my general settings. How do I update my iPhone4 iOS?
Hi. I have an iphone4 and can't update my iOS. I don't have "software update" as a option under general settings. How do I update my phone?
If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPhone to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

I cannot update my iPhone 4. I have erased all content and reset the phone, however, there is still no "software update" under the general settings on my phone. I keep trying to download the update through iTunes and it quits everytime without success. Any suggestions?
READ the entire article from which the question was posted.
It clearly states that the "Update Software" option ONLY applies to iOS 5 and later.
If there are issues with updating via iTunes, provide specific details of what is occurring so that we can offer relevant solutions. -

I do not have a "software" category under my general settings in order to set up iCloud. I have the original iPad. Is it capable of downloading iOs 5?
I was discussing this with Austin but was unable to reply to his last comment to set up iCloud. The original iPad can upgrade iOS 5.1.1. See below for instructions.

I am unable to download apps because my iOs is not up to date. No update shows up in my General settings, how do I update my iPad?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

You can only due an OTA update if your on IOS 5 or higher. If not connect your phone with itunes and itunes should read that your phone needs to be updated. suggest doing a backup of your phone prior to updating.

i don't have software update in my settings menu, what should i do?
Which iPod Touch you got!?
If you are on iOS 5 you should be able to find it in Settings -> General -> Software Update
If not, first, make sure you've got the latest version of iTunes.
After you got the latest version, connect the iPod and hit the update button. iTunes will download the latest iOS for your iPod depending on it's generation.
3rd, 4th Generation - iOS 5.1.1
2nd Generation - iOS 4.2.1
1st Generation - 3.1.3
This should solve your issue -

HT4623 I don't have software upgrade in my settings, I need to know why?
I don't have software upgrades in my settings how can I get it?
If you don't have at least iOS 5 you won't have the software update option.
You'll need to connect your iPad to a Computer running iTuines (Can be a Mac or a Pc doesn't matter) and follow the update prompts.
You'll probably want to back up the iPad before updating though.
In the article you came from, scroll down to the section titled: Update your device using iTunes and follow those instructions. -
I am trying to update apps but different apple id is associated with updates than the id in general settings. How do i change id in itune store?
As I stated, you cannot change the Apple ID that an app asks for, it is forever tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase the app. You need to use the password for the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.
Apps are not transferrable. -
