Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes (v11) Installed on your computer
iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
Then...
Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
If an Update Appears Install it... if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Power off and then back on your router

If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

the settings/general/update menu does not display update.The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. Had 3G, moved to 3GS. Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem on a Dell computer. But now when I want to add songs, I get itunes message of death that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything. How can I add music without erasing everything on my new iphone?
Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me. Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

i recently got an ipod touch 3rd generation, i cannot seem to get it connected to the internet... it connects to the router but cannot seem to get connected to the internet, it seems to connect to the router for a very short while and then suddenly disconnect again, i have tried various solutions but cant seem to solve it, this seems to be a common problem as i have seen many complaints on other forums, many say it may be the dns server . please can any one help?

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. I need some assistance with downloading the new iOS 5 software for my iPod touch 4th generation (32GB). Once connected, my iTunes says that a newer version is available and when I click on "update," the standard boxes appear and when i click on "download and update," it appears to download just as expected, but after a few minutes, an error box pops up and says that my "network connection timed out" and to "try again later"...
I have tried to get around this in every which way possible, but the same error box pops up each time. I have checked AND double checked my network and its connections and I am 100 percent sure they are stable. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes (10.5). I even re-installed it, just in case. I have also tried clicking the "download only" option instead of "download and update"... No different.
In previous discussions, I have inferred that having my media on an external hard drive may cause some issues...? If this is the case, please note that all my media is on an external hard drive that connects to my computer via USB.
I am looking for any and all advice to help resolve this issue as the my warrenty has expired and I do not want to pay for Apple Support. : ) plus, iOS 5 looks so cool and I really really want it!!!!

It appears that you have a first generation (1G) iPod and you need to update the iOS to get the apps store and to allow you to use most of the app in the app store.

You may have to use a different browser to get the sublink to work correctly.
Or you could have restrictions set on your iPod that is preventing installing apps and from the App Store app from showing on the iPod. To check go to Settings>General>Restrictions. -

You have to change the iTunes account on one iPod so it is associated with Canada. Besides the address, the association includes the payment method, usually the billing address. Purchase a iTunes Gift card when you are in Canada. You can't use a USA card in Canada.

If you weren't able to sync the purchases to a computer previously and now your iPod needs to be restored so you can't sync it now, then you may be out of luck and will need to purchase your content again. Officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications and iBooks. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places.
You can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service (select the "Music Purchases" or "Video Purchases" category, as appropriate, then "Lost or Missing Items". You'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form - or an "Email Us" button) ") and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.
