  • Factory unlocked GSM phone - is there any way to make this work?

Hi, I just bought a random off-brand phone from Amazon, not realizing there was a difference between GSM and CDMA.  I know, I know.  Anyway, I have my Verizon SIM card and the phone is working fine on wifi, but no dice in activating my Verizon account.
The phone is the Posh Mobile Titan HD E500 4G GSM Unlocked and frankly it seems like an outstanding phone.  I am not eligible for an upgrade, broke my Droid DNA a while back, replaced it with a Razr M which turned out to be a ***, and didn't want to pay full price for a phone from the Verizon store.
I'm trying to decipher the info on the interwebs, and some sites are saying that Verizon can unlock SIM cards to work with GSM phones, and some phones are dual GSM / CDMA...
I could return the phone but it's really outstanding and I'd probably just end up canceling Verizon service and taking it to TMobile instead, especially with their buyout offers.
Does anyone know if this particular phone can actually be activated on Verizon?  It has a dual SIM, I don't know if that means anything at all, but thought I'd mention it.
    Thanks in advance!

This is not possible. Verizon Wireless doesn't support unlocked phones unfortunately. However if you'd like to keep it and use it on a smaller network, good luck to ya.
It has nothing to do with Verizon not supporting unlocked phones. A GSM only phone does not have the CMDA radios in them that are necessary to make calls and text. If you want a handheld device that can't call or text you might as well use a tablet.

  • Is there a way to make Silverkeeper  work with Snow Leopard?

I use a computer "given" to me by my school. I do have administrative privileges, but IT installs all OS software and configures it per the network on campus. Last February, they installed Snow Leopard and I began to restore all my files from my external backup. I'd been using Silverkeeper for years, I prefer the way it works (basically, it copies all files, then, with subsequent backups, can be set to only update changed files and add new files into the backup. In other words, there is only one folder. As a designer, I have the "v1,v2" so deeply ingrained in me that I never loose the early versions of documents). In short, Silverkeeper works for me. Time Machine is an interface that does not.
So, IT installed Snow Leopard, I bring my machine home, and start bringing files over. For every single file, I had to type in my password. The drive, every folder and every document was suddenly marked as "Read Only". I tried changing permissions. Didn't stick. I repaired permissions, tried changing, still wouldn't take. I contacted IT, one of the guys opened Terminal and typed in something (he never gave me the line of code, so I can't tell you what he did. I asked him what he did, he just said, "It's ok, I just gave you full permission. Don't sweat it." I got home, tried to bring over some files, and they still asked for my password. Nothing had changed. Except that the machine started sending urgent error messages. I disconnected my hard drive, rebooted, and could not get past the grey screen.
Even longer story short, IT wiped my computer, reinstalled SL, I brought in my hard drives, they worked with them to have them all "Read Write" again, and said I had to use Time Machine as a backup. They blamed the entire mess on Silverkeeper.
So, the semester went on, I've been using TIme Machine ever since and I hate it. Hate it. I want my Silverkeeper, or some other such backup that gives me one file, and all my records kept in that file, in a visual manner. I hate these dates, with the multiple folders, and the threat that it will throw away old files (I just resurrected a file from a Quark doc made in 1994!). But IT has me too afraid to use Silverkeeper. Personally, I think something went wrong with the first install, then IT screwed it up even more by opening up Terminal and "fixing" the code, and they refuse to admit they have ever made a mistake. BTW, I've been using Macs for 22 years and have never experienced anything like this. I have done more system upgrades myself than I can remember, I have troubleshooted my own machines for years, and kept them humming beautifully.
It's summer, and I want a different backup. Please help, or let me know if I dare brave my old favorite once again. If there is a utility that I have to buy, I will. I'm so fed up and frustrated with the interface on Time Machine, I'm ready to go back to the bad old days of manual backups.

Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

  • Is there any way to make Siri work better?

I am absoutley amazed at how bad Siri is working now. I articulate carefully when using the mic button to dictate emails, text messages, etc. Siri is making way more mistakes than in the past. Lately the Siri function outright skips spoken words that are clearly articulated with a plain english voice. Many of my friends consider me an "Apple fan boy" but they also can't believe when Siri messes up most of the sentences that I clearly speak. I've reinstalled iOS 6 and even got a new phone from Apple but the problem is still the same.
Is there anything I can do to make this, not so great, dictation function work better? I would much rather have the opportunity to train Siri so that it becomes a useful bsuness tool.

I have done all that for years and this has to be the world record for beta length on such an important function.
I've forgotten how long Gmail was in beta but, as Siri has only been out for about two years, I know that Gmail beats it by a mile.
I know Apple has spent a ton of time on the look of iOS 7 in the upcoming release, which is great. But the way we communicate with our iPhone should be a huge priority, and it looks like apple has passed it to the back burner while still calling it beta. My friends with Androids and Google are showing me up and I am mad about it!
And they've announced iOS 7 will include improvements to Siri.
For what it's worth, I also have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (S3 before that). I find that Siri and Apple's speech to text works as well or better in almost all circumstances. I can get speech to text to work pretty well on the Samsung but it never understands me on things like "Send a text" or Open <program>", things that Siri never fails me with. Combined with my BT headset, with only one touch of the button on the headset, I can listen to a new text and respond to it.
I'm willing to entertain the idea that some people have better luck with one than the other. I'm sure there are differences in the underlying natural language recognition algorithms each company uses. I've also met people who can't seem to make either one work. And I've not been able to figure out why.
    Best of luck.

  • Can not operate Premiere Elements 9.0 on Win 7 64 - bit......Is there any way to make it work?

    Hello All,
I hope this helps in my quest to operate Prem ELements 9.0 on my machine, but I have the need to get it to work and I have tried everything there is to make it happen. I know I am not doing something. Is there anyone out there that can help me out?
To begin, I have a Dell Precision, Quad, 10GB of RAM, running Win 7 64-bit.....I can load the software, but once I try to launch, it opens with the interface appearing, but I can operate any menu function whatsoever. Nothing. I can't set a project location let alone open an image in the organizer. I have tried to run as administrator and set up compatibility mode to Win 7, but I cant operate it at all. I just look at the interface.
Any help would be gretly appreciated.
    Thanks!

It runs perfectly on my Windows 7 64-bit, Joey.
Have you got the latest version of Quicktime, from Apple.com, per the system requirements?
Have you manually gone to Windows Update to ensure you have even the non-critical operating system updates?
Have you run a program like Advanced System Care  (free from http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html ) to clear off the temp files and tune your registry? Even if your computer is brand new, it can be littered with temp and junk files.
If none of that works, you may have  program conflict. Are you running a program like Norton that may be choking this installation?

Yes.  Sign in to the iTunes Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy the music in settings on the phone.
Then tap on "purchased" in the iTunes app on the phone and download the music to your new iPhone.

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

My iPhone 5s is stolen and I want to restore iPhone photos from iCloud. I have use iCloud to backup the iPhone photos. Is there any way to restore my photos from iCloud to mac?

The backup of your iPod Touch would include your camera roll photos.  Restoring the backup to another iPod Touch or iPhone would recover them.  Photos will not be restored by restoring the backup to an iPad.
Note: Apple deletes iCloud backups after 180 days of inactivity so be sure to do this before then.

No. The original owner who has the contract with the carrier is the only one who can unlock it once he meets the requirements of the carrier.

  • Iphone 4S newly updated to iOS8, keeps popping up window notifying me of things I turned off (cell usage, location, etc) to preserve battery life.  Is there any way to make them stop telling me every time I use the affected apps?

I have finally taken the step of updating my iPhone 4S to iOS8 after learning the hard way last update to wait for the bugs to be worked out.  I was horrified to find that the battery was being sucked dry in no time at all.  After finding a great article posted elsewhere on the apple forums, I went through and turned off all unnecessary options involving the use of cell data, location services and background refreshing.  My battery life has thankfully returned to what it was before the update.
HOWEVER, now, every time I open an app for which I turned these things off, the window informing me of that pops up.   I am getting really irritated by this as I made all of these decisions deliberately and am well aware that I may need to go back and change them in order to activate certain capabilities when I want to use them.  I had done the same thing with the last iOS, but there were far fewer that needed to be turned off and the battery life seemed to be less affected by those that I left on so it was not the annoyance it has become now.
Is there any way to make the phone stop presenting me with these idiot messages?   TIA

Sorry no, there isn't a way to turn off those reminders.
You can send Apple a feedback here  http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • My family shares one apple id. Is there any way to make an apple id for each member of my family and have it all connected to the same credit card and have the same previous downloads open to download by signing in to each members personal apple id?

My family shares one apple id. Is there any way to make an apple id for each member of my family and have it all connected to the same credit card and have the same previous downloads open to download by signing in to each members personal apple id?

    Hi cindy,
If you all have individual Apple IDs, then you would be able to dowload music from a shared iTunes library on a computer, but you would not be able to sign on each individual ID on an iOS device in order to download music purchased under the original Apple ID without a 90-day waiting period between sign-ons.
    Here's what I mean:
If you were to sign on a new Apple ID on, say, an iPhone, and then were to purchase and download some music from iTunes, then you would have to wait 90 days before you could sign on the old Apple ID to that iPhone in order to download previously purchased material (and vice versa).
However, if all of the music purchased by that origjnal Apple ID is in an iTunes library on a shared computer, then you can hook up the device and selectively sync any music in that library to the device. You can also sign on any of the Apple IDs to that shared iTunes library and purchase music to be added to the library.
You would need to authorize the computer for each of the new Apple IDs.
Each of the Apple IDs would also be able to download that music purchased either by syncing to the iTunes library on the computer or by downloading it OTA on the device.
So, each Apple ID can download music, movies, etc. purchased with that Apple ID OTA to the device. Also each Apple ID can sync any music, movies, etc. that are in the iTunes library on the computer regardless of who purchased them.
The only other thing you would need to remember is that if an App needed to be updated, then the original Apple ID that was used to purchase that App would come up, and the password that goes with that Apple ID would be required to do the update.
    Hope that helps,
    GB
