HT4623 I have the original iPad it does not have an update setting in (settings/general) what do I do

I can't update my iPod I have version 4.2.1 and the is no update software button in settings

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, as you are on iOS 4 you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

I am trying to install a brand new WD 500 gb sata internal hd in my macbook pro. the original install dvd does not recognise the hd. all hardware is ok. any help?

For some reason OS X disks (whatever edition or flavors) that are supplied with Apple products only seem to contain a limited knowledge of available hard drives on the market at the time of thier publishing. This (rather opportunistically) creates a "Best Before" stale-OS X-software-copy situation where upgrading to or replacing a defective internal SATA hard drive with a newer, better or larger one is a largely hit and miss affair.
If you buy the latest and greatest disk drive available for any older Mac you are likely to run into unresolvable problems making a clean re-install of your own, old edition or flavor of OS X onto any newer or larger hard drive since the OEM (gray) "OS X Install Disks" that Apple supply with retail products seem to contain only time-sensitive lists/mapings of then-known target drives that the Drive Management Tool in the then-published old "Installer Software" will support.
Presumably new (colorful "X") retail versions of OS X (10.whatever.whatever) also contain time-limited Installers with limited knowledge of and adaptability to/compatability with a limited number of old hard drives then kicking-around on the market.
This is especially a problem nowadays since the countless "puny old" hard drives that have been on the market are largely obsolete in a few months time, as manufacturers continue to produce larger and cheaper units, discontinuing older puny products... So if your drive fails you need an exact old (or similar familial) replacement drive for your "backup copy of OS X" to do a fresh, clean OS X re-install. Otherwise you need to purchase a new retail version of OS X, since yours is now effectively obsolete. Purchasing an old, puny drive to re-install your version.flavor of OS X to avoid buying a new version of OS X is a rather false economy.
If you still have a working old hard drive with your old polluted 10.version.flavor of OS X still working on it you apparently must clone it with Time Machine or the newest version of Disk Utility (disk image copying) to most newer, larger drives, and a clean reinstall to such new hard drives is not possible.

  • HT4623 My iPad 2 does not say software update between about and usage in gerenal setting anyone know why this is

My iPad 2 does not say software update between about and usage in general setting anyone know why this  any help welcome thanks

Keith.  Look in settings, general, about.  About halfway down the screen is an entry labeled version.  If it is anything lower than 5.0, then you wil not get wireless updates.   You need to plug your pad into your computer that you set it up with which is running the current version of I tunes to get the update.
When you plug it in to i tunes, be sure to do a backup.  Also, the machine will ask if you want to transfer purchases.  Tell it yes.  This saves your content and purchased apps and music to your iTunes on the computer.  When you do the software update, it will then reload that material onto your pad.
If you have taken any pictures on your pad, be sure to upload those to I photo, or whatever photo library you are using so that they are not lost when you do the upgrade.
Once you get to the current version, any future software updates can be done over the air, not requiring you to use the computer.  That feature was enabled with version 5.    But it is a good idea to do backup and syncs with your computer from time to time.

Make sure you're using an original apple ipad charger and plugging into a wall outlet to charge, not computer.
Its possible that the charger is bad and may need replacing.
Its also possible that the battery has gone bad and it may need replacing.
Apple does offer battery replacement, you will have to send to them or take it to an apple store.

Before you do that though, I would recommend reading through these links first for some more information on how your battery works, needs to be charged and maintained.

    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

  • HT4623 i don't have software update in my settings menu, what should i do?

i don't have software update in my settings menu, what should i do?

    Which iPod Touch you got!?
If you are on iOS 5 you should be able to find it in Settings -> General -> Software Update
If not, first, make sure you've got the latest version of iTunes.
After you got the latest version, connect the iPod and hit the update button. iTunes will download the latest iOS for your iPod depending on it's generation.
    3rd, 4th Generation - iOS 5.1.1
    2nd Generation - iOS 4.2.1
    1st Generation - 3.1.3
    This should solve your issue

  • HT4623 why is the original iPad no longer able to update

I have the original ipad & it says it is no longer eligible to update.  It is has plenty of memory so that isn't the problem

The minimum requirements (processor, ram, etc) don't meet the requirements for the current version of iOS.  Apple determined that the original iPad was not robust enough to run iOS 6 without degrading the user experience being degraded beyond their level of an acceptable costumer experience.
More or less if you want the newer versions/features it is time to upgrade.  I can say that most likely every 2-3 years is the upgrade cycle for iPads.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Ok, I have changed the names of my iPads to each be different- but no matter what I do, the Apple ID comes up the old email address on the old iPad and will not let me update Apps, purchase , etc,

I have used your info to give my two iPads different names. My problem is that my old iPad still has the old email in the Apple ID pop up so it will not let me sign in. I checked my info in the manage my account page and there is my email as primary, which allows me to sign in for apps, etc on the newiPad air, but when I try to update or buy an App on the old iPad, the old email is in the pop up and will not let me sign in.
How do I change the email in the old iPad to match the new iPad????
The Old email is on my manage my account page as a verified ALTERNATE email.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
Have you created a new account or updated your existing account ? All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so if you have created a new account then all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account.
If you've updated your existing account then try tapping on the id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and log out of it and then log back in with the updated id so as to 'refresh' the account on it.

  • I down load latest fire fox but when run tells me I dont have the latest & fox button does not go to sync setting.

I have downloaded the latest addition of fire fox changing the language to UK English. When I run the down lode under the Google box the system says that I am not running the latest version.
I also have a Samson Tablet & having down loaded Firefox it asks me to sync with my computer. Thus I accessed the computer how to sync & clicked on the Firefox button at the top left of the screen (This only shows Restore Minimize Close) No path to sync data.

hello WallyWalsh, if this warning is showing up you might have to reset the homepage to the version that is used in firefox 4 & above (the old homepage will show the warning you have referenced). to change it go to firefox > tools > options > general & reset the homepage to the default (that's '''about:home''').
to set up sync between your pc and the tablet, go to ''firefox > tools > sync'' & create a sync account - for detailed information about it please refer to [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]]
