HT4623 I'm trying to update iOS on my iPad.
I'm trying to update iOS on my iPad. I don't have the software update option
That's because you need iOS 5.0 to get the Software Update option.
Connect to iTunes.

HT4972 I have tried to update ios on my ipad 2 but have not been successful. Help!
I have tried updating my ipad 2 to ios through itunes, i have the lastest version of itunes, but have been unsuccessful. Help!
Does "the latest version of iTunes" really mean that - iTunes 11.1.5, or is it some much earlier version because your computer's Operating System is too old to handle the current version?
If you are in fact running iTunes 11.1.5, please tell us the exact symptoms that occur when your iPad fails to update successfully. -
ios 8 update in ipad air, went to recovery mode. Can't open it now!!!
FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary. -
Just tried to update iOS on iPad 3 and it is totally locked up. How can I restart?
Tried to update iOS and the iPad is stuck on the Apple logo with the status bar at about 90%. It will not even turn off with the power button. How can I restart it?
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally. -

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I'm trying to update iOS 7 and it says I need 3.4 GB of storage to update.. I currently have on my storage 797 MB and 12,6 GB used. How much storage should it write for me to be able to update?
If your ipad has only 797 MB free and it tells you that you need 3.4 GB to update, then you need to begin deleing files, whatever it takes to free up space.
Consider...
Delete apps you don't use.
Delete videos you don't want (these take up a lot of space).
Do you have a lot of emails stored on the device?
Are there apps that store data files, like a PDF reader? If there are a lot of these, you need to delete some.
The bottom line is that you need to remove data and/or apps on your device to make more storage available.
But for videos and photos, always sync them to a computer first to archive them. -

My ipod touch 5th generation went into recovery mode when I tried to update ios. When I try to recover it just keeps looping back to recovery mode. I tried to hold the power button for 3 secs. then simultaneously hold the home button for 10 secs. then hold only power button for 20 secs. I tried this several times to no avail. This is my daughter's ipod. I am computer illiterate and I'm not sure what else to try.
Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Then try restoring on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Cannot update iOS software on iPad no software update option
The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.
