I went to back up my iPhone4 and it said there was an update. So I clicked on 'update and backup' (or something close to that.) It took FOREVER...way longer than usual. When it was done, it showed the power cord w/an arrow to iTunes. ***??? I restarted my computer and tried the whole process again and still...the power cord with an arrow to iTunes. And I know this means I have to go to Apple and get another phone and will lose anything that wasn't backed up. Anyone else have this happen or have a solution so I don't have to do a restore???
Reboot your computer.
Disable your antivirus and firewall.
Connect the phone to a USB port directly on your computer, not to a hub. If your computer is not a laptop and has ports on both front and back use a port on the back.

If it STILL doesn't work open a command window and type:
netsh winsock reset
Then try again. (It seems that a recent Microsoft Windows update may have corrupted network settings; this restores them to the factory default).
BTW, was there an error number associated with the failed update? -
I have a hard time understanding why I can't contact support about THEIR problem. I plugged my iPhone into my pc. iTunes came up. It said there was an update available for the phone. I accepted that. Clicked on the "download only" because I didn't have the time to install it at that point. It downloaded but didn't stop. It continued to the 'backing up your iPhone' segment then froze. I waited at least an hour with no change. Finally I unplugged my phone..iTunes wasn't responding.I rebooted my pc then tried the same thing again. Same outcome even though I let it "Back Up" for 7-8 hrs while I slept. Same Story............... iTunes 10.4.0.80 is the software I'm using. When my phone is 'plugged' in what I see on it's face is "Sync in Progress".....for hours!

I need help, I pluged my iphone to itunes and got a message that said there was an update to download and update, I did but when itunes was rebooting and updating I got an error message. and now the phone is telling me that it cant be activated, to plug it in to itunes or to contact support care.
That message usually indicates that your phone was hacked to unlock it from the original phone carrier, then when you updated or restored it locked back to that carrier.

My iphone 4 was crushed on the road. Bought a 4 replacement tried to restore it in itunes to get my contact info and it said there was a problem with my phone and I should contact apple store. What does that mean please?
Is the replacement exactly the same as the original ie same memory size & same version? If so it may require updating the OS software before trying to restore your stuff from the backup.

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:

until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
* If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some

KristyError 11 is a strange one...if you search the discussions for error 11 you will get a number of hits but none with a real resolution other than getting the iPod to restore, which you have done. And one person indicates this does not appear in the support data base...already found that out.
If you have restored, have a backup and can restore from that, you might try the update again, or wait for the next update whenever that comes out.

My Ipad said there was an update. It asked for a network name and i typed my e-mail network name and password. Now I have a locked frame where it says Another network - name (my network name) safety - WPA2 password - my internet password. Now it is frozen - when i press button it says Ipad not adjusted - continue? and nothing happens alt all. I can't get away from this screen. Please help
Try to reset the device:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally. -
Microsoft Office 2011 no longer opens because "there is a problem" after updating mountain lion when the app store said there was an update available this morning. Reinstalling did not work. What's the problem?

Have a similar problem. This MacBook opened all MS Office programs in Dec2012 but no longer does in Feb2013. Went to Microsoft/mac/downloads but none of the three updates would run citing a problem "version of software needed to run this update was not found on this volume".

I conected my iphone 3gs to Itunes It says there was an update so i agreed it also recommended I do a back up so I agreed. then half way through the process it failed and a message popped up saying unable to contact server try again later. and alls I have on the phone now is a picture indicating to plug into itunes.

I recently tried downloading the IOS8 to my iPod 5th generation and when it was almost done the computer said there was an error. Right after that, the iPod shut down completely and now it's on recovery mode. I plugged it in and it said that I had to restore it and update it so I could use it again but it doesn't let me. okay I'll tell you the whole story; okay, I had this "1" on my settings icon and in my updates, it said there was a new software, I read a bit about it, and it said I needed 50% and needed Internet connection, so I turned on our "wifi" box. it said I can install so I pressed it. and then the Apple logo came up in the middle of the black screen with a loading line below it. so I left it for about 1 hour or so, and came back and it was half way, so I left it again of the same amount of time, and when I came back it had the computer side of the white cord that you get with your IPod and an arrow pointing towards the ITunes Icon, so I guessed that I had to go to ITunes so I did, and it told me to restore my iPod, I didn't know what that meant so I clicked Restore and Update, and up the top of the screen it said it was "extracting" and then a alert came saying there was an error, so I I clicked "ok" and then my IPod went to a black screen and the Apple Logo appeared in the middle of the screen again, I left it for 1 hour and came back it hadn't changed, so I left it over night on charge and in the morning it hadn't hanged, so I took it off charged for the rest of the day, and it said it needed charge, so the black screen and the apple logo must have taken away charge, so as soon as I plugged it into the computer again, it went back to the black screen with the apple logo, so now it wont even let my reset my iPod, so now I have to see if it is fixable, if it is not I blame the instructions IOS resolving thingy, and get a new iPod or spend a lot of money fixing it, I would trade it, but I doubt my folks would let me, so thanks a lot, if you know any way of fixing my iPod please "please" PLEASE! help me, it would be greatly appreciated, if I don't get it working I may loose friends, because my iPod was for some of my best friends the only way I stay in contact with them. Thanks so much for reading.

All i see is an itunes icon and a usb wire
when i plug in appletv, all i see on the tv is a round itunes icon with a usb cable undernieth. can't change the screen and reset does nothing. any idea what this means?
I have the same issue and it's really upsetting that it was such a cryptic message. Couldn't they just display: "you need a micro usb cable to update your firmware" go to this URL "helpuful URL" for instructions. This product has been really annoying in that it doesn't feel; apple. The serial number required a microscope to read and is black on black. I know you can use TV to get the serial number but not if it's displaying the itunes logo and usb info-image. Apple! this waisted 2hrs of my life and likely another two hrs to get the micro USB from a computer store and figure the rest of this out.

From Apple website when I go to itunes update to 10.3 I am not seeing the left column to download itunes 10.3. Does anyone else have this problem? I tried yesterday as well. Today, I threw my itunes 9.1.1 in the trash and emptied it... and then rebooted. What am I doing wrong?
What operating system are you running? I doubt it's an iPhone OS on a Mac Mini, but if you meant to choose 10.4 then you're out of luck. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ At the bottom of the left hand column on this page, you'll see it requires OS X 10.5 or higher.
