HT4623 Ios7 download setup froze my Mac mini on "Choose a Wi-Fi network"!

Help! I clicked Ios7 download, the bar went across the page, and it seemed to be loaded. But then it asked me to select a wireless network, when I entered the name of my network, it froze up, greyed out all but the name I typed and just sat there. Should I turn it off? Or what can I do?

try rebooting first
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
try opening on itunes on computer and finish the update process from there

What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!

No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

I bought garage band from the app store and downloaded it to my mac mini. When i try to open a screen comes up explaining i need to down load missing files. I do this but when try to open GB again the same thing keeps happening! Can anyone help.

Hi, Hugo,
In similar cases it helped to remove the GarageBand "Preferences" file from the User Library.
Open the folder
your home folder > Library > Preferences
and move the file "com.apple.garageband.plist" to the Desktop.
Then try again to launch GarageBand.

How can I share external devices connected to my Mac mini via USB on a wired network.

Own a Mac mini with Mountain Lion. Purchased the server app. The Mac mini is connected to a wired network with Mac’s and Windows machines. I have an external hard drive and 2 printers connected to the MAC mini via USB. I would like to share these devices with other computers on the wired network. Although I have attached similar devices with an airport extreme in the past, I am unable to use a wireless router in this case. Any suggestions on making this work with my current setup?

You don't really even need server app to do this. Simply go to System Preferences | Sharing and turn on both File & Printer sharing. Then, for example, the printer (not relevant what connection it has but obviously USB is fine) will be available to everyone on the wired network.
That's all there is to it - unless I missed/misunderstood something re: your setup which seems very straightforward.

Rather than a 100% identical clone to 40 Macs, I suspect you want the same basic image to be loaded on to those 40 Macs but will require some individualisation so that for example each has a unique computer name.
NetRestore and System Imaging Utility can do this but a lot of people including myself prefer to use DeployStudio which has more capabilities. See http://www.deploystudio.com
DeployStudio can be used to like NetRestore to restore an image to multiple Macs at the same time which is like multiple people downloading at the same time, but it can unlike the standard NetRestore also be configured to use multicast traffic which is more like a TV broadcast whereby multiple people receive the same transmission at the same time. This can be more efficient for imaging larger numbers of computers at the same time. For example 1Gbps shared between 40 computers is only 25.6Mbps each, but if you multicast a single transmission of 100Mbps to 40 computers then all 40 can listen to it at the same time and still be receiving 100Mbps even on the same network connection.

Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot Detect Any Networks

Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
Any help would be wonderful!

The main thing that worries me is that in my case, the Mac Mini is not even seeing any networks - zero in an apartment block where there is at least 5 network on the air at any time

Mac mini doesn't recognize my wifi network

MY new Mac Mini won't show my wifi network on the list but recognises all of my neighbors' networks. The router is right next to it. Once it connected and worked normally but as soon as I switched off the computer and turned it back on the next day, it would recognize the network again. Help!

As above, how do I go about hidding the MAC Mini from appearing on the shared network which is able to seem by other? I had already disable the file sharing under the sharing? What I want to achieve is to totally prevent the MAC Mini from appearing on the shared network as the network I am connecting to is public network. Between I am runnning OS X.

I have an old Mac mini that's from around 2008 and runs on Snow Leopard. I also have a brand new Macbook Pro with retina display that's running Mountain Lion. Both running iTunes 10.6.3.
I never noticed anything wrong with my MBP's connection speed until last night when I downloaded a free TV episode from iTunes. The download speed varied between 20KB/s and 40KB/s and it took me 7 to 8 hours to download a single episode. I checked my internet connection but there was nothing wrong with it, SpeedTest.net told me I had a download speed of 94MB/s and upload speed of 80MB/s, it was only iTunes that was unbearably slow.
Today I was browsing iTunes again and was planning to buy some movies, but again it took forever for the trailers to download. So I fired up my Mac mini just to see if it would be just as slow. Turned out my Mac mini could download the same trailers from iTunes at a much higher speed than my MBP (around 3MB/s on the ones I tested).
So what gives? They are on the same Wifi network provided by an Airport Extreme, and although my iPhone and iPad are also connected to it, no one else is doing any heavy duty downloading.

It's possible the DNS setting your ISP is using are interfering. Although your PC works OK Macs can be sensitive to DNS settings. Here is a MacWorld DNS Troubleshooting article that explains the issue and below is how to fix it.
1. System preferences
2. Network
3. Click Advanced
4. Click DNS tab
5. Click + sign
6. Add 208.67.222.222
7. Click + sign
8. Add 208.67.220.220
9. Click OK.
10. Exit System Preferences
11. Try out your MBP and report what happened.

HELP - Dial Up Download Question from a Mac Mini Tiger OS X 10.4.6 Newbee??

There are hugh download files (133 Mb for 10.4.7 for example) that appeared when I ran Software update the first day I got my Mini. This would require 10 to 12 hours download on my Juno account. One solution I saw in these forums was to have a neighbor with High Speed connection download and burn a disc. My NEWBEE question is... Can you go to the Apple OS X download page and successfully download the 10.4.7 update (and others) using a Windows machine with Windows software?? Then have that Windows PC burn a disc that can transfer the update to my Mini?? I'm breaking new ground in my neighborhood and appear to be the only one with a Mac. Triple monitor setup with my mac mini.

I need to run three separate monitors on my mac mini. No gaming involved here, multiple screens will only be used for display/advertising purposes so in my opinion the mac mini is capable enough to display different images on each screen.
I have 3 Samsung 2253LW running at a native resolution of 1680x1050. My initial thought was to get a Matrox TripleHead2Go but that would limit me to a resolution of 1280x1024. As far as I know running below native resolution would result in blurred images on the lcd.
Instead I would want to know if connecting via mini-dvi to vga a Matrox DualHead2Go running at 1680x1050 each for 2 screens plus having the third screen connected via mini displayport to dvi running at 1680x1050 work? (Sorry for the long question)
I do know that the Mac Mini could drive two displays at a time using the mini dvi and display port. Since the Matrox DualHead2Go works by making 2 monitors seem as if it were one bigger monitor, would this setup work? I badly need answers fast.

Not sure if this would be cheaper than the matrox device, or if the mini is capable of running a third monitor the usb port, but I saw one advertise recently...

Setup VPN on Mac Mini Server running OSX through a BT Hub Router

Hello everyone,
I know this question has been posted several times and I have looked at the suggested solutions, trying each of them. I think this is really down to my lack of knowledge hence hoping someone out there could point me to the right direction for more resources / information, please.
I am trying to setup a Mac Mini Server with VPN access. My server sits behind a BT Hub router. These are the steps that I have been through:
1. I am using the server app and after registering a free account with no-ip, I got myself a host name <myname>.ddns.net.
2. Then I setup the server using a domain name
3. I configured the DNS by first setting up a primary zone - zone: ddns.net. Then added machine record host name: <myname> pointing to my server which I have configured my router to assign a static ip address to it at 192.168.x.x
4. Then, I configured the VPN setting up for L2TP and PPTP, setup the shared secret, change the ip address range to match that of the DHCP range on my router. My router by default has a DHCP range between 64 - 253.
5. Then, I also configured my router to port forward 500, 1701, 1723, and 4500 to my server at 192.168.x.x (I selected both TCP and UDP).
6. Finally, setup a user account with account name test and password abcd12345
7. Gone on my "client" machine which is basically my Samsung S4 handphone, selected VPN -> PPTP -> server address: <myname>.ddns.net -> entered account name test and password abcd12345.
This didn't work.
Then, I read some post about manually configure DHCP on the server app. Went on the server app, turned on DHCP and setup a network named TestDHCP. Assigned ip address range between that of the default DHCP range on my BT Hub router.
This does not work either.
Could someone please kindly help me with it? I am completely lost.

To run a public VPN server behind an NAT gateway, you need to do the following:
1. Give the gateway either a static external address or a dynamic DNS name. The latter must be a DNS record on a public DNS registrar, not on the server itself. Also in the latter case, you must run a background process to keep the DNS record up to date when your IP address changes.
2. Give the VPN server a static address on the local network, and a hostname that is not in the top-level domain "local" (which is reserved for Bonjour.)
3. Forward external UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 (for L2TP) and TCP port 1723 (for PPTP) to the corresponding ports on the VPN server.
If your router is an Apple device, select the Network tab in AirPort Utility and click Network Options. In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Allow incoming IPSec authentication
if it's not already checked, and save the change.
With a third-party router, there may be a similar setting.
4. Configure any firewall in use to pass this traffic.
5. Each client must have an address on a netblock that doesn't overlap the one assigned by the VPN endpoint. For example, if the endpoint assigns addresses in the 10.0.0.0/24 range, and the client has an address on a local network in the 10.0.1.0/24 range, that's OK, but if the local network is 10.0.1.0/16, there will be a conflict. To lessen the chance of such conflicts, it's best to assign addresses in a random sub-block of 10.0.0.0./0 with a 24-bit netmask.
6. "Back to My Mac" is incompatible with the VPN service. It must be disabled both on the server and on an AirPort router, if applicable.

If you purchased a perpetual license (serial number), then this is platform-specific.

Cannot select 5.1 surround in Midi Setup on 2010 Mac Mini

I have tried searching around the net to answer this question but nothing seems like a concrete answer.

Sony 55NX720 3D TV which is connected VIA HDMI (return audio) and Toslink Digital Audio to...
Sony Home Theater DAV-DZ840K which outputs in 5.1
However, when using Audio Midi Setup on OSX Lion, there is no way for me to tell the Mini to output in 5.1, the only options i get a 2channel. What is weird though, is if I use a program called Plex and tell it to output in 5.1 then it does.
So why will OSX itself not allow me to tell it to output in 5.1? I can't use plex for everything, and other programs such as Bino don't have a setting to tell it what to output.

Don't know if you have found the solution already but I decided to post a solution that helped me.
I am not using Mac Mini but a MacBook Pro mid 2010 model. Anyway, I found the solution from this thread which is from people having the same problem with Lion. I used on my Mountain Lion and it fixed the problem for me.
So, in short:
1. Go to the Audio MIDI Setup from Utilities
2. Select the device you want to use
3. Change the Formet from "2ch-16bit Integer" to "6ch-16bit Integer"
4. Now you should be able to change from stereo to 5.1
In the other thread there were different choises in the Format section, but those were the ones that I had. Anyway changing this Format settings fixed the problem for me since I can now see and select the 5.1 option as well.
