Updated Iphone on screen, got a message to connct to itunes, did that then told to restore, screen froze on USB to Itunes message

ThanksYes, the reason you are getting the error is the phone cannot provide internet for the laptop and then update itself. It would lose connection as you erase the firmware and try to update. You need to connect the computer to the Internet in some other fashion before you connect the phone to try and fix the update problem. As Ocean20 says, and I completely agree, how would you think you could use the Internet connection of a device that is not only going to turn off and on, but is going to get completely wiped of firmware and restored? It would completely remove the device from the equation here. Does that make sense to you?

You also are not showing any cellular service. Have you contacted your provider regarding that? Regarding your WiFi, do you have wifi turned on in settings? Did you get your phone to show up in iTunes on your computer? I think we are dealing with several issues since you said that you have a message on your phone to connect to iTunes and you don't have cellular service.

You will have to reset the phone via iTunes. Open up iTunes on PC, then connect one end of the cable to the PC. On your phone, press the home button and at the same time put in the other end if the cable.
It will load factory settings. -

i am confused in last line you wrote,

i did not understand last sentence - if i have one? you mean to say if i have data or not in my iphone?
i have many pictures, messages, contacts which are very much important.
so will it be all restore and will be backup again in my iphone if i restore?

after attempting to update to latest software, my iphone 4 is stuck showing "connect to itunes" picture screen. My computer will not recognize device. I have tried restarting/restoring/hard reset/reinstalling itunes and every other suggestion listed on apple troubleshooting website. thoughts?

Never before have i ever updated my iphone off the computer, there has been issue with backs up.
