when i plug my iphone in my pc on itunes, it says the iphone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. how can i do this if iTunes can't see it
I itunes can't see what? you will need to update itunes to 10.7 then you can update your phone.

Hi, just now I've updated my iPod Touch 4th generation to iOS 6 and I backed it up on iTunes before. Now I want to restore that backup but when I plug it onto my iMac (running OS X 10.5.8), iTunes pops up a message that says: "The iPod "Trang's iPod touch" cannot be used be because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes". My iTunes right now is iTunes 10.6 (40) if that helps. Like said, my version cannot sync over wi-fi because iCloud also isn't compatible with Leopard. What do I do? Do I HAVE to buy an update for Snow Leopard then be able to sync my iPod? They don't even sell physical copies in stores anymore.. now I'm stuck with a clean state iOS 6 iPod. If I knew, I wouldn't have updated it. Is there any way to go back?

I've been given an iPod nano, but when I try to add music to it I get an error message saying, "The iPod “iPod” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later" and inviting me to download the latest version. However, I'm using iOS 10.5.8, and the computer can't update to a newer version. That, in turn, limits me to versions of iTunes no later than 10.6.3.

I have a user who is trying to use her iPhone 3 with her MacBook Pro. She is running Lion and has the latest version of iTunes installed (version 11.0 or whatever the new one is). When she plugs her phone into her computer a message pops up on her computer screen:
"The iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
We have ensure that all the software on her computer is up to date and this still keeps popping up. Please help!

No need to uninstall the currently installed copy of iTunes before doing so.
The latest version of iTunes available is v11.0.4
With iTunes open, from the menu bar click iTunes > About iTunes
That will tell you the currently installled version. -

If you're using Windows try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall the latest version of iTunes. You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

Solved. Not sure what I finally clicked on on Apple.com but found iTunes 10.6.3 and was able to download that for free and now my iPod can sync.

I have just purchased a 5S iphone, when I tried to sync with my Imac it comes up with "...requires iTunes version 11.1 or later.." my iTunes version is 10.6.3, I rechecked software updates but says there is no updates required??? I checked when last auto update was done which was 01/07/12 I also tried downloading from web iTunes version 11.1.5 but it wont load because I don't have min version 10.6.8. What can I do to sort this out? Note: I am a not computer savy so be easy on me.
If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.

Be careful - there's a difference between update and upgrade. Your machine is saying there are no updates available, meaning no later versions of OS X 10.5 (Leopard). However, you can very likely upgrade - at least to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and possibly then to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
Updates are free, but upgrades cost a bit. That's the dirference. -
I have an iphone 4S, recently updated to IOS 7.0.2. Tried syncing with my Mac but window pops up saying iphone requires itunes version 11.1 or later. Tried updateing itunes but it says it's up to date. Tried disconnecting, switching both phone and mac off and back on, no change. Any ideas?
