HT4623 My contacts and text messages are all gone when I updated my 3GS?
I updated my iphone this afternoon and my Contacts and text Messages are gone. Why??? I thought they are automatically put in ICloud? I updated my ipad also two days ago so those should be in that storage. Thank you
Must have sync your iphone with a back up of your wife's phone. If you have a back up of your's, just restore it as a new one then from the back up

Z10 Freezes on Contacts and Text messages?
I bought my z10 today, went through all the set up blah blah.. Anyway whenever I press contacts and texts messages it either goes white, or just doesnt load at all :s
Ive already taken out the battery and restarted the whole phone. I dont know what to do.I would do a BB link system restore, then use BB Link to sync your contacts from your outlook. The system restore will also pull down the latest updates. After restore, it will take some time for it to build your contacts.

You need to check other places where your contacts may be stored:
- iTunes/iCloud back up
- iCloud if you synced them to it -
Downloading iOS 5 deleted all my contact, pictures, and texts. I was running the new update of iTunes and i still recieved an error of (-50). Can anyone help with how i can get all my stuff back? Also i just had updated my phone in October and it said the last time i updated 5/18/11 which is not true i am using a PC.
I had the same problem and managed to get all my old contacts back. It was because I synced my contacts toiCloud on the initial setup, but nothing was in there. If you go to settings-iCloud- and turn off contacts, your old contacts should appear!

I tried to restore from my computer, but it won't bring back the contacts or texts????

I upgraded to a Droid Maxx about 2 weeks ago and all seemed well. Last Friday, I started receiving an "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped" error message randomly--sometimes when I was writing a text, sometimes when I would open other apps, there was no rhyme or reason to when it would occur. Now it also appears that I am not receiving some of my texts. I called Verizon Support who told me that they are experiencing this problem on several devices and that she was going to forward me to someone for help. 20 minutes later, no one had picked up and I had to leave. So I thought I would try here to see if Verizon has come up with a fix for this, if I should get another phone, or if they are working on a software update or something. Help, I really liked this phone until now!

I am using the messaging app that was preloaded with the phone, the green face icon. I do not have an "Android Keyboard" app, but I have cleared the cache on the "Messaging" app, several times. I have also gone to the Verizon store where an associate did a soft reboot, telling me that would work. A very short time later, the error message started appearing again--so this did not work either.
The error message comes very sporadically. Sometimes several in a few minutes, other times not for hours. -
In the process of syncing my itunes library to my iphone, my contacts, text messages and pictures were deleted. Any way to retrieve them?
Problem solved unchecked back up to icloud and backed up to my computer, which then allowed me to untick the songs that were physically on my iphone (when iphone connected to computer) that I didn't want. Synced again and voila!!! Only files I want are now on my iphone . This has been bugging me for weeks, determination certainly paid off. Sometimes I think having problems is a good thing, you learn heaps trying to solve an issue

Block sync of mobile contacts and text messages.
Is there any possibility to block the phones connected to the Exchange from syncing text messages and contacts?
I can't find an option or a PS command for it. Maybe i'm not looking hard enough.You can limit the textmessages by using an exchange policy
Create a new ActiveSyncMailBox policy to dissallow textmessages
New-ActiveSyncMailboxPolicy -Name 'BlockSMS' -AllowTextMessaging $False
However if you're looking a limiting the devices to sync SMS and contacts you'll need additional software.
I recommend you to look at PointSharp MobileGate that will enable you to do this and more.
It also has the advantage that the policy is enforced by a gateway instead of trusting the device to use the policy.

I set up my new iphone 4s and assigned ringtones to my contacts on my phone. A day later each contact showed "multiple ringtones". How do I keep that from happening? I did not physically sync my phone and am set up on icloud to sync. thx.
I had this problem due to Linked contact cards so that each contact was composed of more than one entry. Apparently the Contacts list can get corupted and have more entries than you think. I found the answer in the Linked /Unknown discussion on this community. My reply that I poste dthere fixed the problem.
This is what I wrote:

I had a problem where I could not get the assigned ringtone to ring correctly. Tried removing and restoring the contacts from MobileMe several times and resetting sync to copy the computer contacts to replace the MobileMe contact. Still no luck. Then I looked at the All Contacts number and it was larger than the total number in my Contacts list on the computer. So there were extras I couldn't see. When I turned off the MobileMe Contacts, some where still left anyway.
I then tried to cleanup the list by looking for hidden contacts. I tried the contacts "cleaner app" I had, called Group, which removes duplicates, but it did not find anything. Then I tried your recommended Cleanup app (seach in App Store for Cleanup), and, lo and behold, it found a lot of contacts that should not have been there still. Cleanup removed them all, leaving the list squeaky clean.
Then I turned on MobileMe Contacts again, and after the Contacts list populated, the number agreed with the number on my computer. And the switching of assigned ringtones now works correctly.
So, I basically did what you recommended, but since I am not using iCloud to sync, since I haven't switched to Lion, I did the same thing using MobileMe.

After upgrading to 8.1 Pro from 8.0 Pro, my Storage Spaces and Storage Pool are all gone.
Under 8.0 I had three 4-terabyte drives set up as a Storage Pool in Storage Spaces. I had five storage-space drives using this pool I had
been using them for months with no problems. After upgrading to 8.1 ( which gave no errors ) the drives no longer exist. Going into "Storage Spaces" in the control panel, I do not see my existing storage pool or storage drives. I'm prompted
to create a new Pool and Storage Spaces. If I click the "Create Pool" it does not list the three drives I used previously as available to add.
Device Manager shows all three drives as present and OK.
Disk Management shows Disks 0,1,2,6. The gap in between 2 and 6 is where the 3,4,5 storage spaces drives were.
Nothing helpful in the event log or the services.
I've downloaded the ReclaiMe Storage Spaces recovery tool and it sees all of my logical drives with a "good" prognosis for recovery. I've not gone down that road yet though because it requires separate physical drives to copy everything to
and they want $299 for the privilege.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of doing a fresh 8.1 install to another drive to see if it can see it or reinstalling 8.1 to the existing drive in the hope that it will just suddenly work. Or possibly going back to 8.0.

How can I recover all my phone numbers and text messages from before?
I was trying to update the software, and ended up reseting to its original factory settings. Lost all my contacts and text messages, Is there any way that I can recover all that info and go back to my previous settins?
if you are using your iPhone as recommended, contacts are synched to a supported contact manager like Outlook, or with a cloud service like MobileMe or Google. You can just resynch those contacts.
Text messages are backed up every time you synch, so you can try and restore from your most recent backup. However, any new texts sent/received since the last backup are lost. -
Upgrade to os4 - A way to get lost information - CONTACTS and TEXTS
I have been spending hours, and hours, trying to figure out what happened to this phone. I upgraded to os4, and when I did, I lost everything (contacts, texts, pics, apps, etc.), eventhough I backed up everything on a weekly basis. Not sure where Apple dropped the ball on this major issue. I have been looking for hours to find a fix. I came across a post that was helpful in finding a way to solve some of my problems, including FINDING MY LOST CONTACTS! I have to manually enter them into my phone again, but at least I have them! Like, me I am sure many of you don't memorize phone numbers anymore. I have just added to a post I found by Somebody2 on another forum (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11831613), as a starter, and added to it, to give more specific directions. I am extremely thankful; to have found this! I am still looking to find a way to get back my lost pictures, but that may be a lost cause. Hopefully this can help some of you out there, like it did me(....sigh of relief). Anyway, here is a way to find those lost contacts and texts:
Here are the main steps, assuming that you did backup your iPhone using iTunes recently:
1. Use the following tutorial to install FireFox with SQLite Manager add-in and point it to your backup folder:

(**when following these directions, make a copy of the backup folder, and paste it on your desktop to make the overall process a little easier)
**2. Once you have opened SQLite, Click on the options (hammer/screwdriver icon) at the top. Change the "Default file extension for SQLite files" to mddata then click OK. Next, Click on the word "Directory" at the top, just under the menu bar. Then select choose "Select default directory". Choose the most recent folder inside the backup folder you copied to the desktop, then click OK.
**3. Now the more time consuming part (took me at least 30 minutes). Beside the word "Directory" you can now choose files from a drop down menu. The easiest way I found to do this is to click on the 1st one, then click go. You can continue down the list using the arrow key, and click go each time you go to a new file... As you do this, you will see the left side change. Sometime it has nothing (No directory found), and other times there is a list of menus (master table, tables, views, indexes, triggers). I found mine in the 38...range out of the hundreds of files.
**4. Continue to go through the files until you see "ABGroup" under the tables menu as an options (it does not show up under the "master table" menu, just under "tables").
5. Once you have found "ABGroup", Click on the "Execute SQL" tab in the SQLite Manager and copy/paste the following:

SELECT First, Last, Organization, Note, value as Phone FROM ABPerson, ABMultiValue WHERE ABMultiValue.property=3 AND ROWID=record_id ORDER BY First

Then click "Run SQL" button.
You should now see the list of all contacts backed up from your iPhone. You can also highlight all rows with the mouse and the SHIFT key, then right-click and select "Copy Rows as CSV for Excel", then paste them to Excel so that you can print your contacts spreadsheet.
NOTE: You can do the same thing for finding text messages. The only difference, is that you want to look for the word "message" under the tables menu instead of abgroup.
I have never posted here, but this was a HUGE help to me, so I thought I would try to share a more detailed way to get these back. I know it's not easy, but IT WORKS!! I am so relieved, and thanks a lot Somebody2!!!!
