I can't update my I-pad 1 it. Says it is up to date. But it is only 5.1.1 software . Will hooking it up to ITunes make it update?

The Original iPad can only be updated to IOS 5.1.1

If it's the first gen iPad (i.e. the one without cameras) then iOS 5.1.1 is the highest version of iOS that it supports - mine got noticeably slower with iOS 5, I doubt that it could cope with iOS 6 or 7 (it has a slow processor and only have the RAM of the iPad 2, and the 3rd gen onwards have double again).
Some developers allow you to download previous compatible versions of their apps. If an app is free then you coul try downloading the current version on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it.

Doesn't sound like you have a 3GS, but rather an iPhone 3. Settings>General>About>Model...what does it say?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. I kind of agree with Philly on this one. If you get a new email address, there is no need to establish an entirely new account to use that address. You just need to modify your account to show the new email address. This way all your purchase history and rights to purchased apps stays in place. Creating a new iTunes/Apple account each time your email address changes really doesn't make sense in my opinion. I only point this out for future searchers who end up on this thread.

My Ipod has ios 4.2.1 and says it is up to date but most apps on itunes require 4.3 or higher. Is this an upcoming update or do i need to find the update elsewhere?

I recently cleared and updated my ipod touch. Now when I download applications many of them will not install. A message appears saying they cannot be installed due to needing an upgraded operating system. When i check for updates it says my ipod has the most recent update. How do I get the 4.3 which is what most apps on itunes have as a requirement.

I'm guessing you've got iPod touch 2nd generation
iPod touch 2nd generation only goes up to 4.2.1, so you'll need a newer generation...
iPod touch 3rd generation only goes up to 5.1.1
4th and 5th generation both go up to iOS 6.1.3, wich is the current latest version.

I haven't tried this myself, but you could probably use Home Sharing to copy your playlist to your other computer. First set up home sharing on both computers (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620), then on the computer with the playlist go to iTunes>Preferences>Sharing and choose share selected playlists, checking the playlist that you are trying to recover. Then on the computer without the playlist, create a new playlist with the same name, then drag and drop the songs from the other computer into the playlist you just created.

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac? (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room. Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't. Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.
