HT4623 my ipad has version 4.3.3 im trying to update but I cannot, help!

I am trying to update my ipad but I have an old version...4.3.3 (8J2). I was told to connect to my computer, but I still do not have the option to select software update.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • HT4623 My iPad has no " settings " in the general section, does this mean I cannot download the iOS app?

I want to play iplayer etc on my iPad and think I need to download iOS, but looking at instructions down think I have settings under general heading. Am complete novice so not sure what to do? Any help gratefully received.

The "General" section of the settings apps does not contain anything called "Settings". If you are running iOS 5 or later, you should have a "Software Update" item in the General settings. If you are on and older version of iOS, you will need to synch to a computer running a current version of itunes to update.

  • HT4623 MY IPAD 2 VERSION 4.3.5; I NEED TO UPDATE TO IOS 5 AND AM UNABLE. THERE IS NO UPDATE SOFTWARE PROMPT IN  MY SETTINGS

my ipad 2 needs to update to ios. I'm unable to update my apps because it does not have ios 5. The version is 4.3.5. (8L1) wahtever that is? There is plenty of capacity available. In the online help it says to be sure you have the latest version of itunes, I have no idea if I do and can't seem to update that either.

Scroll down the Support article you came here from (linked at the top of this page) and follow the instructions for updating using iTunes.

Hi my mini ipad has locked me out and says connect to Itunes but it wont connect to it

    Try:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

Yes, I filed police report, but there is nothing they can do until I get back to them on the tracking. It's been offline. I'm sure the whoever took it can find a way around breaking in the ipad..i really was hoping to get my pictures and videos of my kids back

Hi, My iPad has iOS 5.1.1 and is not updating automatically. Yes I reconfigured as it came yesterday

I thought about that, but where he states that "Yes I reconfigured as it came yesterday," I assumed that this was a new iPad 2 that he just received yesterday. The tagline shows iPad 2, FWIW.
However, your assumption may be probably is correct.

That message means that you have to restore the iPad now. There was a problem with the update. So connect the iPad to your computer and restore your iPad.
You can read bout it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If that does not work you will need recovery mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Or you can follow these Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

    This is what worked:
"In iTunes, I signed out of the store. I exited itunes and restarted it, logged back into the store (with my apple id), then I pulled down the iTunes menu in the menu bar and selected Check for updates.
At this point it said that iTunes 11.1 was available and I'm downloading now " Quoted from a fellow user.
    It fixed my problem.
