my Iphone 3gs could not activate

Typically activation issues are the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken.
If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

This is most likely because it was jailbroken.  In which case, your phone is now permanently disabled.

Well, it's not fully compatible for all apps, but you are basically right:
(Thanks for the correction )
The devices that are iOS 6 compatible are:
iPhone
iPhone 5
iPhone 4S
iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS, but does not support:
VIP list
Offline Reading List
Shared Photo Stream
Siri
Maps flyover
Turn-by-turn navigation
FaceTime on 3G

• Iphone 3gs could not activate

Hi
Just brought Iphone3GS off ebay, it was locked to O2, so went to local market, had it unlocked inserted Vodafone sim and all was fine.
brought it home and upgraded in itunes, it has now seemed to have locked itself again.
I've brought new O2 sim and inserted that and still now good.
Phone shows no phone signal but is connected to wi fi.
O2 sim works fine in another phone.
Iphone tries to do activation, I select language, location, etc and wi fi, then it goes off to try and activate, but keeps failing.
Can anybody help?
Adam

It keeps locking because you had someone besides the carrier "unlock" the phone. You need to contact O2
O2
O2 Online Support
O2 is going to be able to assist you with legally unlocking the phone if they can. Ebay is a risky proposition as many of the phones there can not be unlocked properly because of a bad account standing. I suggest always researching the phone before you purchase

phone keeps saying no service but worked fine before restore and update any ideas ? thanks

Sorry. The jailbreak is undoubtedly the root cause of your problem.
It is not always possible to repair the damage done by jailbreaking.
Try searching google for an answer, but be prepared to just buy a new phone.

• IPhone 5 could not activate cellular data on Sprint.

So I preordered an iPhone 5 and it came scratched. But I activated it and used it just fine before my Genius Bar appointment on Sat. So Genius Bar gave me a new phone and apparently she had trouble activating the new one when she switched sims. It was searching and then activated when I left Apple.  Got home an hour later and it said INVALID SIM. I called Sprint and was able to activate it. BUT when I went to use Safari, I got COULD NOT ACTIVATE CELLULAR DATA. Called Sprint back and was on the phone with him for almost 2 hours and he did everything and we couldn't get it to work.
I went to the Sprint store on Sunday and he couldn't fix it. So then today, I went back to Apple. After 2 1/2 hours, I left the store with a new phone that wasn't even activated. What the heck is going on?!

I am facing a similar problem. After boot the 4S starts with all the bars and 3G, but suddenly it starts to drop to E, than to GSM, after that "looking for service" and last "SIm is invalid".
Sometimes I have problems to send SMS.
I'm using TIM in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, and I have tested with another SIM and in another 4S with the same results.

• My iPhone 3GS will not activate following update to iOS 6.0.1

Hi guys,
My mate has just been given a new iPhone 3GS, which is locked to the Vodafone network. He has bought a $2 Vodafone SIM to ensure a smooth transition.
The issue we are having is that following an update of the iPhone to iOS 6, the iPhone would reach a screen where the following error message appears:
"Your iPhone could not be actived because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support at apple.com/support"
I plugged in the phone to iTunes, and received the following error message
"We are unable to continue with your activation at this time. Please try again later, or contact customer care."
I contacted the carrier, Vodafone, and was sent through various stages of the support team who confirmed what I though: I have to restore the iPhone. I completed the restore, and even upgraded the iPhone to iOS 6.0.1 in the process.
Upon the iPhone restoring itself, the exact same problem reoccurred. My mate is pretty confident that the iPhone has not been jailbroken, so I am seeking the support of someone here in Apple who may have some idea.
Can anybody please offer their assistance regarding this issue? From what I've read of the forums, it would appear that this is not an uncommon occurence, so hopefully somebody knows what the issue is.
Looking forward to hearing a response.
Kris.

LOL! - you poor bugger, Ognyan!
I'm starting to serihously think this phone has been jailbroken... I've got a senior technical support advisor at Apple who is working on the case. He has gone through everything he can possibly think of, but won't take "no" for an answer.
At the moment, he has logged everything with the Engineering Department, who is going to look into it further using the IMEI number and see what they come up with. If worse comes to worse, Apple will apparently replace the phone for a fee. The problem is that it is 800+ days out of warranty...
Anyway, we'll see how we go. If anybody has got any ideas about this, please continue to provide answers. I appreciate all responses

• IPhone 3gs will not activate after restore, NEVER HACKED/JAILBROKEN! Help!

I've recently tried to update to the newest firmware, And my iPhone 3gs, Which has, and I will add emphasis, Never Been Hacked or Jailbroken! , Messed up and I had to factory reset the device. All wen't well with the restore, until I attempted to Activate said device, to which it stated it could not connect to the server to activate the phone! So, I attempted to do it the iTunes way, and yet again, It could not connect to the server.
I have the latest version of iTunes, Tried it on multiple computers on the home network, also tried it on a completely different network, every time, the same answer.
And to top it all off, My "backup" on iTunes that I did every week to save my pictures/music/videos, in case of this type of event, Has also been completley erased.
I am at a huge loss, I have no idea what to do! I hope someone can help.

• IPhone 3GS Will Not Activate After Restore

Hello,
Full story:
I purchased an iPhone 3GS 3 years ago locked to the O2 network UK.
Throughout the years this phone has been jailbroke and unlocked on numerous ios versions.
I have decided to fully restore my phone so I can take advantage of the 6.1.3 update and realise that the phone will be locked back to O2.
I have bought an O2 pay and go sim in preperation and have fully restored the iphone.
I progress through the configuration menus at the beginning and the phone is picked up by itunes but after a while of trying to activate the screen says:
Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable.  Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a few minutes.
If this problem persists, contact Apple Support at apple.com/support
As stated the phone is connected to iTunes already, aswell as WiFi, and the O2 sim card is in the phone.
Can anyone please assist as to why this is happening as an hour ago the phone was working fine (pre restore) and now this.
Many thanks in advance
D4

The hack used to unlock it has rendered it unable to activate at all. Apple's servers can detect the hack and have disabled activation. Even on the carrier it was originally locked to. You will have to contact O2 and see if they will authorize a legitimate unlock.
There is no other advice we can offer. You have forfeited all rights to support by hacking and jailbreaking the phone.
