HT4623 My iPod doesn't show "software update" in the settings? What do I do?
I want to update my iPod to iOS5 but when I go toy settings I don't have the option of software update. How can I upgrade it??
- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music
- You can also redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup. This will also update the iOS.

Can someone help me?
The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

HT4972 Why does my iPad not show software updates in general settings
Why would an iPad version 4.3.5 not show software updates in general settings
because it was not there before iOS5. iOS5 is the first that can incrementally update the iOS on the idevice directly. The older versions must be updated via iTunes.

Why does my iPad 2 not list software updates in the settings?
My iPad 2 does not give an option for software updates in the general settings.
Because it's running an iOS version prior to 5.0. The next update needs to be installed from iTunes on a computer, and if possible, the one the device normally syncs with.
