HT4623 My on/off button on my iphone 5 is not working. Any suggestions??
My iPhone 5 on/off button will not work. If I hold it down long enough, it will sometimes turn it off, but it will not work to black out the screen, etc. Any suggestions. I have had the phone since 3/12/2013. Thanks for any help you can offer.

By the way, if you are still interested, I found a solution. It's a bit crazy, but basically I have insulated the parts of the keyboard connector corresponding to the power button using some thin tape and then used a very thin wire going from the logicboard (where the test pads for startup are located) to my eject key, this way the original power button does not respond anymore and the eject key can be used as the power button, just like in the new Airs

If you have iOS 5 you can go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn on Assistive Touch. It adds software buttons to the screen. -

try a reset of iPhone and then a restore,best, as new and if it then functions correctly try restoring with your backup -

Meaning that you cannot restart or reset the phone? If you haven't tried already, try both options.
Otherwise, you can do a backup & restore, or even a restore as new (only after a successful backup).
If the issue persists, then look at a replacement. Either it will be a hardware defect (free if within warranty), or physical damage ($49 with AppleCare Plus, $149 without it.) -

If not, turn phone off/on again. If that doesn't do it, reset by holding down the power and home buttons until you see the apple logo (ignore the slide to turn off message). Finally, you can try restoring the phone from backup. -

any idea ?Connect the iPod to its syncing computer. Let it charge for 1/2 hour . If iTunes sees the iPod restore it via iTunes
Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
