HT4623 No ios software update notifications

I use to receive ios software update notification badges with ios 6.  I no longer receive them with ios 7.  I never know software updates are available until someone tells me.  Is there a way to enable ios update notifications?  I have an iPhone 5 with Verizon.

If you do not connect the device to power and wifi at the same time, then you might not. But if you had power and wifi at the same time, it should have recognized the notification. But if you go open Settings, it should prompt it. There is no setting in Notification Center to set for Software update.

  • Not getting any iOS software updates notification

my friends' iPhone 5 notify them whenever there is a software update on the lock screen but mine does not. I only know there is an update if i go to setting>general>software update manually or from friends. HELP! (for iOS 6.1.2)

    GARYLEWIS,
unfortunately Apple is not particularly communicative as to when they stop supporting a particular version of OS X. It seems as though support for Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) has ended, but without word from on high in Cupertino, one can’t be absolutely sure. If you’re concerned about the lack of security updates, then you should upgrade to a newer version of OS X, either Lion (Mac OS X 10.7, $20), Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8, $20), or Mavericks (OS X 10.9, gratis), through the Mac App Store.

  • IOS Software Update - No Notification or Automatic Download

As of today, it has been 11 days since iOS 8.2 has been released and I still have not received an iOS Software Update Notification on my iPhone 6 Plus nor has iOS 8.2 automatically downloaded like it had on my other iOS devices. I knew iOS 8.2 was out, but, I like to wait a bit to install just in case bugs are revealed by early adopters. I had to manually check for the iOS 8.2 Update on my 6 Plus.
So, I'm curious why I did not receive an iOS Software Update Notification/Automatic Download?  I have noticed previously, on other iOS devices, that the number of days between and an iOS release and the iOS Software Update Notification/Automatic Download is not consistent. I understand that you have to be connected to a power source and on wifi for this feature, which obviously is one variable, but, 11 days??? The 6 plus battery life IS AWESOME, but, not that awesome. I have definitely charged my phone and have been on wifi a couple of times since the iOS 8.2 release.
    Any ideas? Just curious.
    Thank you.

  • Solution: Software Update Notifications for Non-Admin-Users

This is a follow up to [that thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1642646].
    Problem:
Since I'm using Mac OS X the software update notification only appears if you are logged in as an user with administrative rights. In a real multiuser environment this makes sense, because the ordinary user should not be confused with things he's not responsible for. But what about the situation with the typical single user machine, where the owner uses a non-admin account for normal work. In this case this user IS the administrator, although he's using a non-admin account. In this very common case the user should get the software update notifications as he/she can react to it. But even if "Check for updates" is selected in System Preferences, there will be no notifications. You can argue if this is a bug or not.
    Solution:
I wrote a little applescript (in fact it's embedded into a launchd plist file, so you only have to care about one file), that checks once per day if there are any software updates available. If so, they are displayed in a nice looking Growl notification, if Growl is installed (highly recommended!), or in a standard system dialog. This works for any user. I'm using it for over a year now without any problems and decided to make it available to everybody. You can download it [here|http://blog.kaputtendorf.de/2009/02/22/updatecheck>.
    Best regards,
    Sven

good job! I also suggest you submit this to mac os x hints.

  • HT4554 How big of download is the new 5.1 IOS software update?

How big of download is the new 5.1 IOS software update?

It depends on the device but for an iPod Touch for instance, it is about 180 MB.

  • Software update notification not working

    Hello
I'm having issue with the software update notification not informing me of updates to downloaded apps. I've open the software app button but no notices on the bottom. The only way I can update is to go to HP app site and press update button on app page. I'm still unable to backup manually or automatically. The Touchpad has never been backed up. I checked with HP two weeks ago and they confirmed that backup has never been done. I've tried to erase backup but error window says I have no internet connection and cannot not erase backup on profile. HP say they are checking on solution but no reply since contact. Are the issues related? Touchpad 32gb Wifi believing it has no Internet connection so unable to backup and unable to check if app updates are available. This is my second Touchpad (first one had cracks on speakers and headphone jack returned to Amazon) and the first one had no issues with backup or software notification. I've done restarts and complete reboots. Issue remains.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Have you installed any "homebrew" apps? This could be causing an issue.
I have checked you HP webOS account and see that you have never backed up to the account with you current Touchpad. I see your original device was backing up okay as you have stated.
You can download and run HP webOS doctor for this device. This can be downloaded from http://ws.hpwebos.com/webosdoctor/sorry.htm, enter you device serial number. You may want to create a new HP webOS account to try after the ROM reload. If this works alright then try logging into your original account again. You may be able to restore your data again.

  • Software update notification - even after updating

I updated my Z10 with v 10.1.0.4181 two days ago using BB Link, but I am still getting the software update notification in the hub, telling me to update to the same version that I have already updated using BB Link. Doesn't the BB servers check for version information before spamming me with notifications? Did this with the previous version as well.
As per the usual forum requests with any kind of query:
    1) Yes, I took the battery out and put it back
    2) I did 2 backflips while holding the blackberry
    3) I turned round-and-round to the point of dizzyness with the blackberry in my pocket
    Issue still present.
I've been complaining about this issue since I got the Z10 a few months ago. For the love of God, can someone PLEASE send this issue to the BB10 developers instead of telling us to reset our battery and other unrelated "fixes". Thank you.

Have deleted any of the pre-install program from the phone, if you did it will tell you that you an update available
Also it could an update for some carrier specific program that it wants to update, or it could be a few OS files that are specific to your carrier that need to be updated (like the radio files)
Using the Playbook and the Z10 and the Z30 and loving them

  • Unused iOS software updates

If your iPad consumed memory to download iOS software updates that you never actually installed on the device, will the total memory from the unused updates be returned to your iPad once you decide to install the iOS update you like? E.g. you choose not to install iOS 8.0, 8.0.1 and 8.1, but you install 8.1.2 instead. Will the total memory value of those past three iOS updates be restored to your iPAD?

Well, when I first got an offer to download iOS 7.0, i saw that it was over 1 GB worth of memory. I also turned down iOS 7.0.1, which was a smaller file (about 100 MB) but still too big for me. So I downloaded iOS 7.1 instead (this was about 60 MB). Would my iPad only store 7.1 (60 MB memory) and not the others (1.1 GB memory for both)? You see, The unused updates disappeared, but they still lowered the storage space of my iPad even though I never selected them to update my iPad's software. I need to know if the iPad permanently consumes memory equal to the size of the iOS update that you choose to install, and gives back the memory of the others that you didn't install. That's my problem.

  • HT4623 Help with software update

I do not see a software update button in my general settings on my iPad....how would I update to ios7?

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • Software update Notification badge (OTA), never showed up

    Hi,
I have a problem with the OTA software update.
Badge at Settings ("1" in a red circle) never showed up at any of previous software updates, neither at 5.1.1 update.
When I navigate to Settings/General/Software Update it informs me there is a iOS 5.1.1 and suggests me to "Download and Install".
Any solution to make OTA notification (badge) to work?

    Hi there Marios,
The iPhone periodically automatically checks for updates, however I'm not sure how often. When it finds one, it adds the badge, but often you are the first to notice it, so there is no need for a badge to show up.
If you download the software update, but do not install it, then the badge normally appears.
Hope this helps, have a nice day,
    Nathan

  • HT4623 why is software update not shown in settings on my ipad?

I'm trying to update my ipad for ios 5 and cannot find "software update" under settings, general. Any idea why?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • HT2693 Why don't I have a software update notification in the apple drop down menu?

When I try to log in to my hotmail account from my Mac, using Safari 4.0.3.  The hotmail (outlook) page says my browser needs to be updated.  However when I go to software updates it says I have no updates.  I'm starting to realize that I probably need to download Mountain Lion, but which one, OS X Mountain Lion or OS X Lion.

You posted in the iPad forum. This question would probably be best posted in the forum for the version of Mac OS X you're using now.
Just FYI, here are the numbers and names for versions of Mac OS X:
    Mac OS X 10.4 - Tiger
    Mac OS X 10.5 - Leopard
    Mac OS X 10.6 - Snow Leopard
    Mac OS X 10.7 - Lion
    OS X 10.8 - Mountain Lion
Using the correct terms will help avoid confusion, and will help if you tell people the version you are running and what model of iMac you have. iOS, as given in your profile line, does not run on Macs, only on iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads.
    Regards.
